Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 13.1-19.1.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

  8. Going to lunch and sniffing with a friend today. Hoping to try some fragrances from Carthusia, which is a new to me house, so I’m commando until then.

      • Too many to properly list! The Carthusias I tried on skin were Via Camerelle, Mediterraneo and Terra Mia. First two only lasted an hour on skin, and I didn’t care for the TM.
        I had a great time, though!

        • That’s too bad about the longevity but glad you had fun sniffing! Only one of my dear friends in real life is obsessed with perfume as much as I am so getting together with her for a sniffathon is a real treat.

  9. Last of the Sylvaine vanillas today. Virgile, nice herbal opening but like most of this line it’s gone in 15 minutes. What the dickens is it with some perfumes and their zero lasting power?

  10. Iunx Eau Blanche today. I found a place in the US that carries a number of the Iunx perfumes and I love the travel sprays. This one isn’t my favorite — that would be Eau Sento — but they are good and very work friendly. (Which means too soft for some!)

    I haven’t said it before, but my heart goes out to all the Australian wildfire victims. So many people lost their homes, so many animals have perished, it’s heartbreaking.

  12. Le Mat this morning at 5:30 am. It’s still humming along nicely and so am I. Project inspections done. Multiple meetings done. I think my energy is finally returning. Maybe a return to the gym will be in order next week 🤞

  16. 2 sprays from a sample of TF beau de jour. It is def. inspired by YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme and Rive Gauche is better in my opinion. If you have Rive Gauche Pour Homme, esp. in the original tin can, beau de jour is redundant.

  17. Back to the hot weather and the smoke; I’ve been staying inside virtually the whole week so far.

    Monday I wore CdG Energy C Lime. I really like this; probably my favourite lime fragrance. Today was Cologne Indelibile, finally thunking my sample of this.

  19. Winter Woods all week because Mr M really likes it on me. It’s a rarity that he comments (except to say something is too strong) so this is a high compliment. He likes Incense Pure too. I think he has a thing for SSS on my skin.

  20. Chanel No. 19. Yep, it’s gonna be that kind of a day. A couple of our suppliers are going to get a strip ripped off them this morning. Then, I’ll duck into a phone booth, transform into my charming alter ego and try to smooth talk a potential client into a “signed on the dotted line” client. Bring it on!

  23. Vintage Chanel No 19 EDT today. I possibly should be wearing something better suited to stinking hot weather, but this one just sort of gravitated into my hand.

  24. Memo Siwa. Beautiful yellow floral vanilla. It took me a couple hours until I finally figured out what it reminded me of. Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Ylang & Vanille. I’m going to compare them side by side tomorrow to determine if I am correct.

  25. I promised you a story. I will tell it soon . But firstly I wish to say the A Quiet Morning didn’t help me yesterday . A spray of Poeme at a local pharmacy did though. The past 2 days Ballarat ahas been blanketed by smoke. I am staying home and watching tennis. My scent for today is Laura Ashley No 1. Now for my story!!!!.. On Saturday last week the day I was wearing Miracle another “ perfume story ‘ unfolded . Jack is approx 94 years old and he moved into the nursing home in mid November. We immediately clicked . He never married but has a grand nephew named Jason who visits every Saturday. However as well as some fruit Jason bought 2 gifts!!! 2 bottles of ARAMIS!!! After Jason left I asked Jack about the Aramis . Jack told me he had been wearing that scent since the 1980s ! A gentleman of class and taste

  27. Taking it easier today. Yesterday wiped me out and I’m still feeling the effects. This seems like the millionth day of cloud, so I’m wearing Carnal Flower to remind me that winter is not the only season we have 😎

  28. Back to testing the Sylvaines and I’m on the orange blossom set now. Orzana is the first out. Spray spray spray. It’s 4711. Honestly, that’s what I’m getting. Not saying that I don’t like it. Not at all. But.

    • Thursday morning . Less smoke . Even a little water from the sky last night!!! According to news reports , and NASA the smoke from Australia has circumnavigated the world!!! Amazing. Last night I wore Fancy Nights to bed and could still smell trailing this morning. After my shower I decided the day called for something ‘ pretty ‘ . Penhaligon’s Iris Prima

      • We got about 12mm, but that was only enough to tamp things down a bit. The smoke is back today and will get worse over the weekend.

  35. Blessed rain here in Parramatta.
    We had a couple of wet the ground a bit showers through the week. That’s good because It meant that it was ready for real rain and is soaking it up. We should have some green grass in the parks next week!

    In other news, my SOTD is Bronze Goddess. by Estee Lauder. MMMMMMMM

  36. Wearing Calvin Klein Euphoria Men today. Not usually my thing, but it was one of a clutch of fragrances I saw in an op shop for $1 each. How could I not? I think it smells OK for a cheapie, with just a bit of ginger and pepper to it.

  40. The sun is shining, but there’s a price to be paid for that. -30C. I hate these cold temps 🥶. So, what perfume can stand up to this frozen wasteland? Angel, of course! Tbh, I don’t love it anymore 🙁. I think it was tampered with sometime in the last 15 years.

  44. I’m in SL Five o’clock au Gingembre, trying to get a work project done. Hopefully I’ll manage that by Sunday evening, so I can get feedback from a coworker on Monday.

    Also waiting impatiently to hear if a relative picked up a 40 ml Dior Grand Bal for me in London yesterday.

  46. Got another one of my $1 op shop finds on today – Ralph Lauren Polo Black. Not as fruity as I Expected; in fact there’s kind of a fizzy vibe to it – maybe tangerine?
