Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is youโ€™ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 20.1-26.1.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Winter Woods!!!
It’s going to be super cold so it’s perfect.
All APJ ๐Ÿˆ lovers, we need to ban together and convince Portia to get a feline for JIn ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

    • HA! Brigitte. There’ll be no need for convincing. Jin will get his shit together and organise everything if he REALLY wants a cat. I already know that I’ll be the one feeding, grooming and keeping the day cage and kitty litter clean. Isn’t that enough?
Winter Woods sounds like a perfect super cold fit.

      • Let me tell you, P, a cat will melt your heart. If Pickles can have such a profound effect on Mr M (who now entertains the notion of getting a kitty for himself) you as an animal lover will be smitten. Mark my words ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚โค๏ธ

          • What is it with cats and men? Pickles was madly in love with Gaelic boy too (autocorrect wants it to be Garlic boy lol!!)

    • I had two cats. Just lost one of my babies Jan. 8. I love dogs, too, but my lifestyle doesn’t allow. I’m not home enough. I wonder what the greyhounds would think of that!

      • I am so sorry for your loss Gina. My first cat lived to be 20 years and I miss him dearly each day. Cats become your world with their presence, love, and antics. I love both cats and dogs and have always had both. Agreed, greyhounds may not be the best mix with a cat. I had a friend that adopted a greyhound when she already had a cat, not a good outcome. I have only brought puppies into my home with cats, where they can be easily taught to leave the cat alone.

    • Oooh, I never even heard of that one. I love pine/fir scents. But, with oud?????? Over the top. That sounds like the perfect winter scent. I love oud, too. Have to get my sniff on this. Until Twilly, there wasn’t an Hermes I liked. They fade too fast. How’s the lasting power on this one?

      • The oud reads as antiseptic, not oud as we know it, and adds to the medicinal pine, all on a bed of leather. Cuir dโ€˜Angeโ€˜s great uncle. I wearing alone or with either of the Hermรจs oils, they add a musky sweetness. Absolutely worth trying.

  2. Queen Latifah Queen. Tiny spray bottle, great for travel. Heading home from the ski weekend, it snowed for two days (we havenโ€™t had much snow at home so that was fun.)

  3. Chanel La Pausa EdP.
Busy day visiting the hospice where my dad spent his last days. I am bringing some samples, decants an a full bottle, besides other goodies to some of the residents They always enjoy when I bring scented items. It is really comforting for the soul to visit that place.

  4. Snowed all weekend here and still going. Looks like a snow glob out with those big drifting flakes. So pretty. Yesterday, I wore a vintage cologne I can find nothing about: Joly Vert Jade. The, I tested Burberry Body in the afternoon. In the eve I went big with Marc Jacobs Decadence. Haven’t decided yet today what I will wear.

  5. Yesterday I tried the last of my $1 cheapies: Obsession. My wife liked this, but she finds it too strong. She thought it smelled quite good from the other end of the house, so I guess she won’t be wearing it herself. I quite liked it myself; probably my favourite of the three, even if it is the only femme one.

Today I’ve got Malle Dries van Noten on. Nice vanilla woods, one of the few Malles I’ve bought a (partial) bottle of.

    • Iโ€™ve been through a couple of bottles of that body oil. It really is fragrant and so good for dry winter skin. I should order a new bottle this year, but winter isnโ€™t really coming, still rain and no lasting snow in the city centre.

Today I am trying Goldfield and Banks Pacific Rock Moss . I am not enjoying it. Perhaps tomorrow I shall return to my bottle collection

  6. Armani Privรฉ Ambre Orient for an uncharacteristically cold day in our area. While I still have more than a half in my decant, I think that I won’t need a bottle of it We’ll see in 2-3 years ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Well Iโ€™m a mixed bag today. Was already wearing Clouds Illusion. Five minutes later I was back in the drawer looking for something and on the spur of the moment had a quick spritz of Bengale Rouge, but only one spray. Theyโ€™re playing very nicely together.

  8. April Aromatics Unter den Linden, instant transportation to early summer. It is uncharacteristically warm her, almost spring. No complaints from me if we skip winter alltogether this year.

  10. I sampled four Kerosene fragrances this morning. Blackmail, Canfield Cedar, Broken Theories, Sacred Memory. None of the scents were for me, and very fleeting on my skin. However, I liked the names and it is interesting to sniff a new to me indie perfumer’s creations.
Back to wearing vintage Cristalle EDP, this is more me fragrance!

    • I also wanted to like Kerosene due to all the hype but this brand is not to my taste. I bought two and sold both and they were actually the popular ones so its not like I went for risky blind buys.

  13. EL Sensuous Nude. Comfort. Was in a pharmacy earlier and had a quick spritz of Shalimar edt. What the dickens? Itโ€™s so sweet. Not Shalimar as I remember it at all. Thereโ€™s nothing chewy about it.

        • I wonโ€™t. It would make me ๐Ÿ˜ก. Soon there will be no one left who will remember what a beauty it was. I hate to think that the current formula will be the reference point for those just discovering perfumes. Iโ€™d rather Guerlain did the right thing and discontinued it. Or rename it and sell it as a perfume unrelated to the great Shalimar.

      • Hi Diana. The funny thing is that I thought I wouldn’t like it, but my curiosity got the better of me. Rogue Perfumery has an ETSY site that you might want to check out. He does good sample deals, but I don’t know the shipping cost for you. I think that you and I are not the only ones with wish lists that will *explode*.

  14. Erawan again. I also tried a few new Gucci releases, Ambrosia di Fiori really is a fiery tuberose, such a bold choice for a designer brand. Good for them! Memoire d’une odeur seemed lovely and almost groundreaking in its simplicity.

  15. I am beginning 4160Tuesdays sampling. Drive Them Wild. I recently read a post about this perfume recently on ร‡afleurebon, that it was inspired by Dolores Del Rio and I was curious to sniff it. It’s nice but not memorable sadly, described as “Blood orange, red mandarin, osmanthus and orange blossom dance around a chypre heart, with vanilla, tonka and cocoa absolutes spiced with black pepper. I wish it lasted longer on my skin.
    I love 4160Tuesdays adventurous names!

  16. Travelling to end the week, so have spent the last three days wearing Tom Ford Tuscan Leather.

I spent Sunday morning at the Camberwell market and had another cool find. Two vintage after shaves still in box: Hermes Equipage and Givenchy Gentleman. The GG is unopened. The Equipage is about 95% full, but I’m not happy about the juice colour; it looks sort of too yellow.. Still smells fine, but I might do a snigg test against my other Equipage of the same vintage.

  18. Sorting and packing for vacation. Carnal Flower to put me in the mood. I asked LH what sort of accommodations he had booked for us. He smiled and said it was a *surprise*. I hope to god he hasnโ€™t booked a camping ordeal in the middle of some godforsaken forest overrun with unidentifiable creepy crawlies, which, even if I did recognize them, would be ten times bigger than we have here at home ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
I used to love camping and we did lots of it in our 20โ€™s, 30โ€™s, 40โ€™s right up till my mid-fifties. Thatโ€™s when I decided I no longer wanted to sleep on the ground, on an air mattress that would inevitably deflate mid-slumber, usually during a soaking rain storm whereupon I would wake up with my head in a massive puddle and an enormous boulder intent on penetrating my spine. No thanks. I donโ€™t care how hot and sunny it is. Just No.
