Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 27.1-2.2.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Very hot here today, I thunked a sample of Le Jardin Retrouve Verveine then forgot to put anything else on. Brain must be boiled. Watching the tennis here too.

  2. I took your inspiration yesterday and thunked two: The Vagabond Prince Land of Warriors and Robert Piguet Oud. Today, I am wearing Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds Lustre. I feel like I smell like hairspray.

  3. vintage Dior Addict. I believe it is the first version. I expected it to have a huge sillage but it is relatively quiet. Is it how it is or my bottle did not age well. I received it last week. I did buy a vintage bottle years ago but this is my first time wearing it.

  4. I could not come up with any clever emoji sentences for Eau Duelle. (of course, if Cassie and Mrs. M had not fooled around, I might have had an option! 🙄). So, I didn’t wear it. Instead, it’s 🚗⭕️🌺 today. Two more days to go!

  5. Some mornings I struggle to decide – started with ELDO Like This, then I changed my mind. Tried Zoologist Panda on one wrist, YSL Cinema on the other. Nope, not happy . Frapin Orchid Man to the rescue.

  6. Second wearing of my new Dior Grand Bal. The small bottle! So happy my brother in law went shopping for me in London, since Dior in Vienna seems not to stock anything smaller than 125 ml, don’t know why. Lovely smooth perfume, but not subtle enough for work, even applied with a light hand.

Rough start to the week, so just hope it will be a little better than last week. No major trouble, just life happening and too many demands on my time at once.

  7. Monday I wore Orange Sanguine. This smells exactly like spraying yourself with orange juice. Nice, though, and it doesn’t stain your shirt.

Today I have Cuir d’Ange on. “Leather of the Angels”. So, does it smell like a hairy outlaw biker’s jacket, or perhaps a bit more refined? I tend towards the latter.

  8. Eau de Fatigue. Yesterday plumb wore me out. 12+ hour days are still a stretch after this damned pneumonia and I still have not started back at the gym. I only have a few work related bits and bobs to get done today so I’m lollygagging in bed with a steamy double shot of espresso that LH rounded up from the patisserie around the corner. Let’s call it a pre-vacation wind down. I think I will wear a layered confection of Shalimar today. Body cream, EDC + Perfume.

  9. Got the Demeter Linden perfume oil on today. Probably more floral than citrusy. It seems to be fading fast too, surprising in an oil.

  10. I chose Anubis for travel day. It’s a gorgeous perfume, but in my view a little standoffish, maybe even unfriendly. It doesn’t yell across the room “hey! nice to meet you. Come sit next to me and tell me all about your family. I’d love to hear about your SIL’s asthma and your dog’s ear mites”. Unfriendly it is. Which is precisely the point 😏

  11. During the last 2 weeks I have been sent a few packages . Quite a few samples. , including today’s morning scent. Do Sun by Diptique . Pretty but not something I would seek out. I have a candle burning which is lovely Jasmine and White Tea.

  12. Wore Equistrius applied sparingly today because of a long meeting with researchers. It’s a very nice and reliable scent, but even better on warmer skin and sprayed with a heavier hand.

SL Five o’clock au Gingembre as SOTE.

  13. Mark Birley cologne today. Awesome stuff; who would have thought you could mix citrus and incense so beautifully?

Going out to see The Ocelots tonight (Irish folk duo) so of course it will be GIT tonight, after the Birley wears off.

  15. I stayed commando during Friday because of a visit to the dentist and later a sweaty session in my physiotherapist’s gym room. 20 minutes on the rowing machine and some weight training, a 40 minutes session is enough for me most days! Now going to bed in Five o’clock au Gingembre.

    Feel better soon Brigitte!

      • In fact we are having a ridiculously warm winter. Winter was supposed to come back yesterday, but in the city centre it was still plus 4C! Today gave us some sun, finally! Wearing my new Grand Bal while doing household chores. I cannot keep it for special occasions, it would get too little skin time.

  16. Happy name day to Brigitte. Hope you’re taking good care of yourself. It is one of our national saint’s days here. Brigid was an early feminist and brewer. 💪🏼

  17. Yesterday was an absolute beast of a day. It was 36C, not as hot as Friday, but the humidity was up to 85%, which is unheard of around here. It wasl building to storms all day and never quite got there. The temperature in my fish tank jumped 4 degrees, and the walls and tiles were “sweating” with condensation that the air conditioner couldn’t dispose of.

On that beast of a day, I wore Monsieur Balmain. It’s one of my go-to summer fragrances, and absolutely lovely blast of lemon.

The weather broke overnight and today is a whole lot nicer. I have Guerlain’s LIDGE on, which I haven’t worn in quite a while. This is comfort food in spray form, chocolate with a little bit of spice.

    • I am very familiar with ‘wet’ tiles ! I nearly fell at work yesterday evening in an en-suite. Luckily I managed to grab onto a hand rail and steady myself! Last night at 9 pm I applied TRNP Taif Rose and got a compliment from my night staff partner. I was able to see a bit of the Women’s Final of the Aussie Ope in between attending to residents! Tonight Sunday is going to be Men’s final I am wearing Ostara . Gentlemen Jack is really enjoying his Aramis!

  18. Every year this happens. The Christmas tree gets packed away (i can’t be responsible for the cutting and throwing away of a real tree every year) and a month later there are tinsel ‘needles’ still hiding in the corners of the rooms, despite a good and thorough clear up at the time of packing. Quite annoying!
This leads to a tidy of the perfume, shelf – er shelves. Shortly followed by a rather late new years resolution, to use up the sample bottles before returning joyfully to the big bottles of fully chosen perfumes.
So, today I am bravely wearing Vanille D’Iris (Ormonde Jayne), whilst i’m not a fan of vanilla, the Iris does a brilliant job of reigning it in and i can live this this for another sunny day in the Eastern Isles of new Zealand!
