Hey there APJ,

It’s Mood Scent 4 week. WOO HOO! With the first Monday of the month the crew are looking at floral fragrance. It’s a broad and deep selection and winnowing it down to best in show has been  big deal for me. These choices are subject to change, daily. Can’t wait to read about your favourite florals in the comments too.

So excited to be blogging with these three superstars again:  Esperanza L’Esperessence, Megan Megan In Sainte Maxime and Samantha I Scent You A Day. Check theirs out too.

Mood Scent 4: Floral Fragrances

Caron Pour Un Homme by Caron

Lavender! Over the last couple of years I have fallen madly in love with it. There are a slew of lavender centric fragrances lurking wistfully in my collection but the one I reach most for is the creamy, masculine, sweet and interesting Caron Pour Un Homme. It will always and forever be named Caron Pour Un Gimme after a Brigitte typo, and that makes it even more special to me.

I Am Trash by Etat Libre d’Orange

This is a shit name but fabulous smelling fragrance. My wearing of it doesn’t;t really reflect the notes of rose and apple. It wears much more sweet, breathy, white floral with soft woodsy underpinnings. I Am Trash has become an easy breezy spritz and go fragrance for me this summer. Smells great for hours and hours of social whirlwind, even in Sydney’s punishing summer heat and humidity.

Love Mimosa by Amouage

LITERALLY a breath of fresh air. Amouage has created the perfect mimosa for me. A little dark but mainly the sweetness and light of a late winter/early spring morning dream of crisp and cool rambles picking wattle. Full of the waxy yellow softness of pollen and bees.

Mohur by Neela Vermeire Creations

This is my rose. One rose to rule them all. As distinctive and richly tapestried as you could possibly want. Neela spends more on her perfumes than almost any other company and when you’re wearing Mohur you can tell. It’s rose but rose with every beautiful bell and whistle imaginable. Bright, shining, dark and lustrous, a rose for every season. My mate Michael picks it on me every time. Mohur smells like I dream I do.

Rose Oud by Yves Rocher

The rose oudh combo is a familiar one in my collection. I really love it. While there might be 20 choices the one I come back to again and again is Rose Oud by Yves Rocher. It’s so wearable and while it packs a fragrant punch it’s never overpowering or too dense for company. More than just roses and oudh there are a bunch of other, less powerful motes, lifting and setting the basic fragrance. Simple but beautiful.

Sampaquita by Ormonde Jayne

A dewy floral bouquet surrounded by greenery. Sampaquita is softly melancholy. A perfect impression of a water filled spring flower garden, like strolling aimlessly through the botanic garden and catching wafts of flowers as you pass. Jasmine, freesia and peony to my nose backed by water, grasses and some broken leaves. A calming, stately fragrance that still retains the twinkle and beautiful sadness of lost youth.

So there are my Mood Scent 4: Floral Fragrances

What are your choices? What are your most loved Floral Fragrances?

  1. I love the Gimme too!!! Such a fantastic lavender!
I think right now my favorite floral is St Clair Scents Casablanca. It’s so potent it will literally knock your socks off. 😃

  2. I don’t wear florals a lot, but apparently when I do it’s neroli or orange blossom. Nicolai Neroli Intense and Cap Neroli, Seville a l’Aube. I do own and enjoy the YR Rose Oud from time to time and also some violet and iris, but the lions share of my collection lies in other categories. (Amber, anyone?)

  3. Dear Portia, thanks to you I was able to try I am Trash and I really enjoyed it! Then my daughter snatched the rest of the sample…
I don’t have many floral perfumes so the choice was easy: Tiempe Passate (sadly, discontinued) and L’Artisan’s Caligna.

  4. I’m having a Guerlain phase, lots of Mon Précieux Nectar (orange blossom), L’Heure de Nuit (heliotrope) and Rose Barbare. I also love Amouage florals like Beloved and Honour.

  5. I think that florals make up the bulk of my collection. Trying to choose is difficult but here goes. Songes, Frangipani, Fracas, Fragile, and like Brigitte I adore Casablanca. And your own youthful gigglefest, Anus Anus, though I don’t wear it myself, it was my mum’s favourite. I recently bought YR Rose Oud and it’s gorgeous.

  6. Okay Portia, you’ve talked me round on ELDO I am Trash. It just makes me think of bin juice but your description has changed my mind and I might even venture into sample territory. The thought of you wearing I am Trash on hot weather was a bit ew, but I trust you and your description made me want it. I always love your description of Mohur and now desperately want some. I’d never heard of Sampatiqua until today, but now I want that one too. Remind me never to go perfume shopping with you, I’d be homeless by the end of the day! love from Old South Wales xxxxx

  7. Hi Portia, Love Caron Pour Un Homme as well, interesting I wouldn’t have thought it to be a floral. Mohur is stunning have to wear it soon. Love how you describe Sampaquita, almost like a Monet painting. XxEsperanza

  8. I’m in negotiations with myself now as to whether I should buy Love Mimosa. It’s lovely.

I love floral perfumes and could probably list a couple of dozens. But let’s do five – not necessary my most favorite but I enjoy them all: Since we were talking about Amouage – Dia. Keiko Mecheri Johana. Ineke Hothouse Flower. Ormonde Jayne Tiare. Grandiflora Michelle.

    • Heya Undina,
I’ve gone through nearly half of 100ml of Love Mimosa this season. Sure, I did a couple of decants for people but this has also been quite a lot of use.
DIA is amazing. I love it too. My bottle is one of the older extraits. It smells flipping amazing.

  9. Beautiful choices Portia! I love floral perfumes, too many favorites to list but like others I adore Casablanca. My favorite floral perfumes are blends with several floral notes such as Ysatis, Salome, Flux de Fleurs, Champs Elysees, MDCI Vepres Sicilienes and Le Rivage Des Syrtes, L’ Instant Magic, Valentino Donna, Mugler Alien. I could go on and on, too many to mention!

  10. It’s odd but I never think of lavender perfumes as floral, but of course, they are (Jicky has a special place in my heart). Rose has been one of my favourite notes for a very long time, there are so many great rose-centric scents out there, and I’ve mentioned them all, so I’d rather talk about those I’m not supposed to love because I normally dislike the main note: jasmin & tuberose. Again, I’ve mentioned Melodie de l’amour more than once, but it is the perfect white floral to me. Gucci Ambrosia di fiori and Armani Prive Rouge Malachite are also worthy contenders.
