Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 3.2-9.2.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Today I am wearing one I don’t like too much. I grabbed a bottle that was in front of me and can’t remember what I like and don’t when I haven’t worn them for years. So, it’s Avon Bond Girl 007 Forever. I don’t hate it but don’t really love or like it. It’s okay. I smell pepper that is not listed as a note.

  2. Wearing Agent Provocateur for the first time. Have heard of reformulations but the latest USA version I got projects and lasts quite a long on me. It think the bottle color and shape justify the scent. it has that vintage and classic feel and the comparisons to Coriandre are apt.

  3. Four sprays of Casablanca. Cassie made me do it 😈😈😈 Can’t hardly smell it though as the 👃 is still plugged up.

  4. I’m always late on these threads.

Monday I put on one of my favourites; pre-reform Tea For Two. It did not disappoint.

Continuing the discontinued theme, today I’ve got Ricci Club on. Lavender and green notes mostly, and it lasts forever on me.

Tomorrow is my wife’s birthday so I’ll need to wear something special.

  5. Yesterday I wore Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom in honor of the ridiculously warm weather 52 degrees F. Repeat weather today before it gets slightly colder so I’m thinking some fig – maybe Philosykos?

  6. Today, just for wearing during the day, I’ve got Atelier Vetiver Fatal on. For tonight, I’m going to go with Cuir Pleine Fleur, because my wife is a Heeley fan.

  7. Yesterday was Papillon’s Bengale Rouge — so beautiful! Today was Dasein’s Spring — and also the remnants of BR still wafting up from my elbows after a morning bath! This stuff lasts FOREVER! Which in my view is a good thing, because it’s gorgeous. Note to self: apply sparingly!

        • It’s interesting to me that I was initially disappointed with Bengale Rouge. I’m not sure what I was expecting after all the hype pre-release, but the perfume was not what I thought. As I’ve worn it, I am growing in love with the honeyed rose, tonka, sandalwood, vanilla. The blend smells very vintage yet reminds me of no other perfume. And I enjoy the personal sillage; it doesn’t project loud at all but I get whiffs of the amazing scent for hours.

          • It was hyped a lot, but I tried to read between the lines and read Liz Moores’ own thoughts about it, so I had a pretty good idea I would like it very much. I agree completely with your description! I can’t get over how long it lasts.

  8. SOTN – Nina. Quietly trying to get back to normal after a pretty scary week of bushfire threats. We were lucky. 🙏 Teh young scholar is back at school after six weeks of non-stop minecraft. I’m starting up a new business so wish me luck please!

Woke up drenched in sweat so decided it was time to call out sick

Once I kick this cold to the curb I am going to do the entire month of Reglisse Noire. This is a conscious decision because I love it, I discovered it around the time I found APJ ( circa late 2012/early 2013) and it’s the scent of friendship to me because both Portia and AnnieA gave me their vintage bottles. I want my last month on APJ to be all about wearing a perfume that reminds me of my APJ family

  10. Shakespeare’s Lover’s Complain. Gosh I love this one. It’s got a Tuscan Leather/Irish Leather feel to it.
And the bottle is rather glam.

    • I added my homemade vanilla bean oil and bitter almond essential oil ( not bitter at all but rather a very sweet almond scent) to my bottle of La Fille because I wanted a marzipan perfume.

But it’s equally beautiful on its own ❤️💙💜

  11. Snow! Wowilla oil topped by some Tocade. Sadly I think the latter has gone off, it’s not horrible but the top notes are definitely wonky and it’s disappearing too quickly. (Bottle is maybe 10 years old and I got it used, so not sure how it was stored before.). Don’t wear it often but it’s fun when I do, so I’m a little sad.

So many memories wrapped up in a single scent. From my late teens to now it’s been a stalwart in my collection. Never realised how much it has changed till Scotty gave me this old one for Xmas. SWOON!

  13. Saturday morning errands in L’Art Al Oudh. Super humid here today. Lunch out soon so topping up with Dzing!
PS could anyone suggest something similar to SL Gris Clair. Silly me, I got a little decant and adore it but then found out it’s discontinued. New version apparently not as good. I need to do better research.

  14. SOTM Today was a normal out ‘n about Saturday. Chores, lunch out. Swathed in comforting Chergui. SOTE-Cosy evening at home in Daim Blond, eating pizza, and watching The Hobbit with the family.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. xo

  15. Last night a few dabs of vintage Shalimar EDC
Today Paramela a gorgeous citrusy, herbal honey fragrance…. probably my favorite honey around…..and I love the bottle and also love that it’s unknown so no one smells like me!! This is one of a very few bottles that right now are exclusively MINE…..so I can spray lavishly.

  16. I swear, you go to Melbourne for one day, and look what happens. It feels anti-climactic to let you know what I’ve been wearing; so many bigger things to talk about now.

Anyway, on the way down to Melbourne Friday I wore Habit Rouge EDT, mainly because it’s been a long time between drinks, if you know what I mean. That evening I went out to a night of whisky, wine and Tex Perkins, and put on some Nicolai Pour Homme. Saturday was a hot day, with a birthday party visit to the children’s farm with the grandkids, topped off with lunch and birthday cake, (The one year old was hilarious; as soon as he saw a cake on the table he hauled himself upright and started blowing at it. They learn fast these days). I wore Mouchoir de Monsieur for the occasion.

I’m going to miss these threads where I can witter on about what I’m wearing to people who are actually interested. Not a lot of frag-heads where I live; I think I’ve encountered two in two years.

  17. Juniper Sling today. This has a reputation for disappearing, but it’s still easy to sniff on my wrist 12 hours after spraying, so no complaints there.

  18. A sample of Tom Ford Rose Prick. Hate the name. Like the scent, not positive I love it. 4 hours in and it’s very, very, very quiet. I have to glue my nose to my wrist to smell it.

    • I have the same response to most of the TFs I’ve tried, longevity is a problem. And don’t even get me started with the names – this coming from someone with the most juvenile sense of humour.

  19. I sort of forgot to say what I was wearing the last few days. Always get distracted by Saturday Question. Plus I was busy. Saturday was commando until Elemis Frangipani Monoi oil in the evening. Yesterday I mixed some Monyette Paris perfume oil into my body oil and had it slathered all over. I think I’m craving some sun, given the rotten storm Ciara weather of the last couple of days. Wind chill today will be 🥶
