Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 10.2-16.2.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. A huge love affair with Salome while on vacation. Continuing my fascination with this tantalizing perfume for the first day back at work. Ridiculous early morning meeting and the a**hat who called these things is late 🙄

  2. Starting Valentine’s day week in YSL Paris. A classic that I barely reach for these days, but when I wear it it makes me realize that what I need to add to my collection is not much anymore.

  3. Light Blue Intense (women version). HATEEEEEEEEEEE IT. Cannot believe Light Blue is such a big seller and so loved by many. I have smelled light blue, too and Intense is pretty faithful to it. Def. going in the sale bin! On the other hand, I like the blue liquid color and frosty bottle and frosty cap. I have always had a weakness for bottles that have frosty glass. They just look much cooler to me than transparent glass.

    • Hahaha!!! I wore Light Blue when it first came out, before anyone knew about it. I thought it was unique and refreshing. Then it became hugely popular and everyone was wearing it heavy handedly and I liked it a lot less. The same thing happened for me with Giorgio, Poison and Angel.

      • It has a pretty good apple note for fans of apple note. But still I am quite surprised by its popularity. And I am shocked after googling it now that it has been here since 2001. I thought it came like 7-8 years ago. I did not really come to know about it until 2010s.

        • Oh yes it’s a fairly old perfume. I know I liked it a lot more before it became ubiquitous and overworn. Did you ever try the original D&G with the red cap? That one was a lovely marigold. It has a cult following now. My full bottle I emptied years ago.

          • And, Fazal, I am really going to miss our conversations. I always get a kick out of the fact that you are exploring and loving vintage fragrances that I wore decades ago.

            • Yeah, I am going to miss these conversations, too. I dont enjoy facebook forums that much because the people are mostly chasing the latest thrill only. My path to this hobby is quite different from the majority of guys.

To answer your question, I love the original D&G Femme. It is pretty good and I think I have it in all three concentrations. I only discovered back in 2017 or 2018 that it even came in parfum de toilette formula. I got two used pdt bottles but unfortunately one of them broke as I was packing stuff for moving in December 2018..

              • Oh I am so glad you have tried it and love it!! I discovered it in the mid 1990s and bought my bottle in 2001 along with Light Blue. I always loved that the bottles were nearly identical except for the caps ♥️

  4. Monday I wore MP&G Racine. I really like the bitter grapefruit opening of this, and then it settles into a very elegant and fresh vetiver scent.

Today is Creed MI. What can I say? I like it, but I like other Creeds better.

    • If it’s cold (not that you would really understand cold until you’ve spent a winter here 😒) then at least it must be sunny? I hope! Opium is a fabulous choice. I wore it often during winter.

      Like

      • Well I definitely wouldn’t understand your idea of cold, nor do I want to🥶 The weather forecast this morning was for hail, sleet and snow. And more feckin wind. So we’ve been having horizontal snow today with terrifying wind chill, even though the temperatures aren’t that bad.

        • Sounds much like what the coast of Norway had during the weekend! Plus there was flooding. Moutain roads closded and so on. In the capital we had howling wind and lots of rain. Not normal for February with so many days without subzero temperatures.

            • Well, the weather is certainly less predictable than it was in the 80s when I first moved to Oslo. I remember snowy winters! Today was 4C and a bright sky, so good with daylight!

          • The same storm hit even more southern parts of Europe, apparently. We have a little snow on the ground this morning which is crusted over with ice, bad for driving in places that aren’t gritted (all roads around me🙄) But at least there’s no wind today.

            Like

        • Okay now. Well that sounds impossibly disgusting. Truly awful, in fact. We get stuff like that in early November, but not with a crazy wind like that. I hope Opium was up to the task. I betcha Angel would have been……just sayin 😉

          Like

          • Storm Ciara has been wreaking havoc this side of the Atlantic. Pity I didn’t have some Angel so I could have diffused it into the air outside. That would have sent the wind swerving off elsewhere.

  5. Frapin 1270 to start with. Topped up with some Costume National 21. Neither lasted so I’m topping up for bedtime with a little ELDO Marquis de Sade.

  6. Reglisse Noire
Some of you already know my lineup for the rest of this month. All four perfumes that remind me of APJ for various reasons.

  7. I’m boring y’all to death, but it’s Salome again. Just can’t seem to get enough. After a 14 hour day yesterday I’ve cleared enough space in the day to do the good stuff. Baking two flourless chocolate cakes, one for each of my girls. The eldest will get her’s when I pick her up at the airport later. She’s just returning from Hawaii and Momma needs the deets! Dinner out with the youngest and she’ll get her cake to take home to share with her SO. Of course, both cakes have Valentine’s cards as well cuz you know I’m crazy about my girlies 💖💞💝💗💘

  8. Working on my decant of No.5 Eau Premiere. When I put it on this morning I was so-so about it, so I layered it with a spritz of Ivoire. I rarely layer, but they’re both so ladylike I knew they could manage to at least be civil to each other.

  9. Needed a little more almond today, so I chose LPRN Black Perfecto. Almond & rose with a cherry on top. Plus, I love the bottle.

  10. Haven’t worn a drop of perfume for 4 days, because I have flu-like symptoms as the doctor said. New GP, not charming or caring, but at least he allowed some tests.Plus, I actually got the flu jab over a month ago, so really wonder what virus strain I’ve caught.

Thankfully no loss of smell or any chest infection, but my colleagues head off for a two day seminar in a lovely hotel today (with indoor pool and good restaurant), so I miss out on some important team building. Feeling sorry for myself, even if this is a very temporary setback.

    • And I have topped it off with Miller Harris Cassis en Feuille…. fantastic tomato leaf from the fantastic Marcella. For now this bottle lives at work and belongs exclusively to me.

  11. Yep, it’s Salome for the encore. With this repeated wearing pattern I am picking up a lot of subtle nuances that have eluded me before. It’s such a gorgeous perfume. I don’t consider it terrible vintagey. Yes, there is a nod to some of the classic scents of yesteryear, but Salome is thoroughly modern, voluptuous and surprisingly wearable.

    • And now you know why I love wearing the same fragrance for days on end …..but oh my goodness I am laughing hysterically at your description because Salome smells so naughty on my skin. I wouldn’t dream of wearing it to work LOL 😂

      Like

      • For all I know, it smells naughty on me as well. Perhaps my nose is not picking up in that, but everyone around me does 😬. Last night my youngest asked what I was wearing. She said it was “really strong”. Since I had not applied loads of it and was 8 hours into wearing it, “strong” must have meant something else. In any case, she was not a fan.

  12. In my right arm is Baccarat Rouge 540, hmmm it’s really good but not a love. On my left arm is D&G Velvet Tuberose. It’s nice but boy am I happy that I didn’t spring for a bottle of this a while back when I saw it going cheap. I’m struggling to find this velvety tuberose 🤔 Heaps of money saved🤸‍♂️

  13. I am stinkin’ exhausted. I am going to rest in bed and watch some TV. Instead of Shalimar EDC I will go with Pour Un Gimme. Marcella gets the enabler pin for turning me on to it when she sent me a sample and pl67 gets my gratitude for sending me a bottle. This one I share with the Mister so it’s in his cabinet and not on my little white shelf.

    • Have fun. Are you in drag? Did you have to do the whole make-up routine in the unrelenting heat? I hope not. I remember you having a ‘system’ for making it stay in place when it’s a hot and sweaty day, but still. PITA!

      Like

      • Hey Marcella,
I only do drag on Tuesdays now. Come hell or high water. The trick is to finish your face then spray it with Hair Lacquer. Two fine coats will set your face into tomorrow. Instead of taking a powder with you,. all you need is a square of toilet paper to dab off the oil through the night. It’s a good trick we learned from the movie stars of old.

  14. Dusita le Pavillon d’Or. It’s so unusual that I fail to describe it: there are opulent green notes, heliotrope and something that makes me think of an apothecary’s tincture, but it’s not medicinal per se. I love it!

    Like

      • It does sound posh with that nasal “n” and the guttural “r”. It seems that Dusita might be a case of “love/dislike”, but I suspect that such an avid vintage perfume admirer like yourself will find something to like. The range currently consists of nine scents, and I can tell you honestly that there are only two that I’m not ready to cough up the money for just yet: the uber-green leather Le Sillage Blanc – it’s a very Bandit/Cabochard kind of thing, – I have a bit of the latter, so I can wait, – and la Douceur de Siam which is a tropical rose, sadly, it doesn’t perform too well on my skin. The rest is a must-have: I already have the pine needle fougere Issara, but I also need Melodie de l’amour – it’s the friendliest jasmine/tuberose duet I’ve ever smelled! Erawan is my latest obsession: it’s a chocolatey grass! It took me almost a year to discover the beauty of the perfume, but now that I have, it’s getting more difficult to choose the next acquisition 🙂

My parents are coming up from the city for a visit. We will stop at the bakery near the train station. Going to get lots of goodies and local coffee beans. They are excited to see their furry great granddaughter. I will send them home with a huge bag of samples. A perfect day Chez Marzipan 👍😻😁♥️

    • I came home from work at midnight absolutely shattered with tiredness! I had a work buddy who is new to the job but doesn’t wish to learn! Not only frustrating but dangerous since we are handling humans! A warm relaxing shower a glass of red wine helped me to sleep soundly. Oh and a spritz of Yardley Lavender ! I woke up at 10 am but stayed in bed until 11. Now psyching myself for another busy shift. So I have sprayed Shalimar on skin and clothes

  20. Monday I was wearing Comme des Garcons Calamus. I like the green notes in this, but I’m not sold on it overall.

Tuesday I ventured back into the pool for a swim session. It was a complete and utter failure. I was cramping badly and could not swim even one length without stopping. So I gave up and went over to the oldies pool and did some hydrotherapy on my shoulder. Too soon, I guess. Anyway I had some Demeter Linden fragrance oil in my shower bag, so that was my SOTD.

I have been getting serious about thunking. In the lest few days I have sold bottles of Millesime Imperial, Green Irish Tweed and Serge Lutens Arabie. I plan to keep this up and really pare my collection down.
