Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 24.2-1.3.2020

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. The last SOTD thread. Feels like I need to make a big effort.

Today was FM Bigarade Concentree. I was putting this on in the dark and the black cap came off the decant and the spring went flying off in another direction. Almost an early thunk on technical grounds, but I managed to find all the bits and put it back together, somehow.

  2. YSL Opium. I barely reach for it these days. I am thinking about wearing this week those forgotten fumes that I have mostly for reference.

    Wearing Shalimar Souffle.
I will really miss reading this blog and all the comments. I’ve been given some wonderful suggestions for perfumes. Also Portia’s give aways.
Good luck and much love to you and Jin for the future XXXXXXXX

  4. Just back from work, smells like I’m wearing other people’s poo and pee, ( I hope it is other people’s 🤣). The last scent of the day, such a sad day, sad hall miss reading about everyone’s ups, downs and in between. Dear Portia, we have not long met, now it’s time to say goodbye, for now. Maybe next time I’m in Sydney I can pop into one of your quizzes. You never know. Learned much about scents from so many people on here. Wishing every single person all the best, peace, happiness, love and sunshine. My dear Portia, always stay as fabulous as you are. You’ve made this little corner all the better and brighter for being in it. ❤️🌻🌼🌸🌺🌹🌷💐🥀💐🥰🥰🥰🥰

  5. I am mentally exhausted. I also had my yearly observation where my administrator evaluated me on my participation in my meetings.
So even though it’s 5 pm I have applied two dabs of Shalimar and will kidnap Pickles and watch TV in bed.

  6. Wearing the vintage Givenchy Gentleman EDT I found on the weekend. I’ve dated this to 1986. The top notes seem to have gone; I got no bergamot or lemon. It seems to be mostly cedar and patchouli on me. We’ll see how it develops, but I like this a lot right now.

    • Smelling great Greg. I’ve only recently stumbled onto this one, although my recent purchase is not vintage. Regardless, its a beautiful scent xx

        • I wore Anubis yesterday. I sprayed it in at 6:00 am. Two generous squirts from a decant. It was still wafting around me when I went to bed at 11:30. Amazing longevity is something I really appreciate in perfume. The Givenchy sounds incredible.

  7. I am wearing Willows by Régime des Fleurs. A ladylike, irisy perfume, which faded away before lunch, so I topped it up with my ebp of Prada Infusion d’Iris Eau de Parfum Absolue. If I don’t report back later in the week a) I’ll still be working on the decant of Willows and b) wish you all the best!

  8. Lalique L’Hommage Voyageur. Prominent patchouli note so may appeal to patchouli lovers. However, I don’t like it. I think this is a failed flanker. On the other hand, I do enjoy the original Hommage.

  9. Amouage Lyric Woman again. Beautiful. definitely want a bottle. It beats out SL Rose de Nuit, which is a perfume that I probably wouldn’t buy but if I received it as a gift would wear and enjoy it. And now I want to sample Lyric Man. I heard ti’s pretty great too.

  11. Wearing Calvin Klein Obsession. The perfume that when I smelled being a teenager changed my whole world forever. Many, many moons later I was finally able to afford a full bottle. My first perfume purchase. I love it, it has the most especial place in my heart, it must be in my collection forever, but I don’t reach for it anymore. I don’t even remember when was the last time I wore it. Years for sure. Some day I will get a vintage bottle, because that was really glorious!

  12. Paprika Brasil…..I know I said that I have a specific line up for the last week of APJ but this one is calling to me.
On the 29th I will be doused in the Gimme…. Portia’s ” lavender lollies” reminds me the most of my APJ family.

  13. It is still nice. I got this bottle around 2007, but nothing compared to the richness and beauty of the vintage 80’s. It was absolutely amazing at that time.

  14. Ok, I’m joining in again for the last week. I just want to be a part of the history, going down with the Titanic 😉 Just joking to cover up the sadness… :-/
I’m wearing Diptyque’s Eau Capital today. Just a sample but it could easily turn into a FB soon.

  15. Tauer Amber Flush oil all by itself. This has serious oomph for a perfumed body oil. Off to start on pancakes. Not sure whether I’ll have sweet or savoury 🤔 (there’s an unopened jar of Nutella in the cupboard that the Smallies obviously didn’t find😬).

    • Ballarat has been weird weather- wise. Monday and Tuesday were warm with stifling humidity. Today, Wednesday is mild but bright. I had to do grocery shopping ( something I actually enjoy doing) . As I was about to leave the property, I realised I was ‘naked’ Searching quickly I found a manufacturer ‘s sample phail of SDV . Perfect today.

  16. I’m continuing my effort to wear some special stuff in honour of the last SOTD thread. Today I’m wearing Dior Jules. Apart from being a cracking good perfume, this is special to me because it was my first op shop find. I went into a Richmond op shop and they had Jules, Antaeus and Chanel Pour Monsieur on the counter for $5 each. I’m still shaking my head over that.

I find Jules doesn’t last that long on me, but I can double up, I suppose.

  17. In honor of APJ today I’m wearing Jean Patou’s Colony. I got this vintage sample from Portia in a giveaway and luckily I didn’t use it up completely then. Colony, created in 1938 was the inspiration for Bruno Fazzolari to create his perfume Unsettled (which was my first purchase of 2020!!!). I just love pineapple as a note in perfumes.

  20. I’m thinking of Portia as well and wearing Guess from the last PPP. Not at all a sophisticated fragrance but, boy is it fun! Boozy and fruity on opening with a woodsy, vanilla dry down. It smells like Jordan Marsh in the Maine Mall, circa late 80’s. So, in a round about way it reminds me of our beach holidays.

  22. Today’s fragrance is Amouage Journey Man. This is special, I guess, in that it is the most expensive perfume I have ever bought. I still can’t explain exactly why I grabbed it, but it is something that I enjoy every time I wear it. Of course I have perfumes much cheaper than this that are at least as good or better, but that doesn’t mean this wasn’t worth it. You just have to question, sometimes, whether that was the right thing to be spending such big money on, instead of maybe buying a house or something.

    • I am COLD!!!! Only 16C today. And I am wearing Estée Lauder Amber Mystique. Simply gorgeous. I can honestly say I had the best day in the last 12 months! I met a young lady and her 20 month old daughter for lunch. The little one showered me with kisses and hugged me heaps! Her mother , Ruby was really surprised because her daughter doesn’t like strangers! Baby kisses are the best

Some plastic , others glass . Some full , others near on empty. And irritatingly MOST of them had no labels or the writing was unreadable! My SOTM before shower/ work is…. Unknown and Not Worth trying to figure it out. Happy birthday Cassie

  23. I’m being a bit of a tightwad jackass today: A seller on the bay has some Neela Vermeire decants for sale, (which happens never) and though I’m not questioning the price of the perfume I think they’re charging a bit much for postage. I mean, that €2 is going to make a gigantic impact on my life🙄 I’m having words with myself here. Somebody give my ass a kick, please.

  24. Ultimate comfort today in Musc Ravageur. And why do I need comfort you may well ask? Because our almost snow free roads and sidewalks are now buried under an impossibly heavy and sloppy snow with rain mixture. Lots of it and lots more to come. The sky is leaden and the latest news is that our spring will be very late. So probably no joy around here till late April/early May 😑 I am speechless.

    • Well just ignore the met office, they’re talking balderdash😀 In a huge turnaround here we have a gorgeous sunny day with a blue sky. Still cold but don’t care. The sun has me moving around the house scrubbing, sorting, dumping, I’m almost meeting myself. Even sorted my jumpers by colour. There’s a tower of red. How’d that happen? Time for coffee now methinks. And anyway you’re smelling great so there’s that😜

      Like

      • Sorted your jumpers by colour? Awesome. Now how about you talk your SO to sort his buckets of bolts by vintage years. Throw in a category for little/medium/heavy rust. It would be a great selling point if the house is still on the market. You could display them in the living room. Who could resist a carefully curated collection of vintage screws and bolts. There will be bidding wars, mark my words!

        • Plus sort his bloody ‘vintage’ tractors in order of decrepitness. And the old power tools with no plugs, the boxes of VCRs with recordings of Formula 1 races from the 80’s to late 90s. The pen collection is also a glory to behold. Old watches. His old jeans from 1990 that are very special. The matching shirt. Gawwwd help me but I’m going to have people queuing down the road and bashing on the door to get at this stuff. 🙄

  26. Earlier this week, I thought the best way to celebrate the fun had in this lovely space was to buy more perfume! So today I’m waiting patiently for a little purchase from LKNU, which includes a Zoologist Squid and T-Rex sample. Walden Solid Earth was on sale so snapped that up and added the samples.
I then thought, that’s not enough. So I placed an order with Lucky Scent for a bunch of stuff including I am Trash, Lonestar Memories, Hindu Kush and Memory Motel.
I decided to wear just a little D&S Radio Bling this morning to see me through until my parcel arrives. Cheeky me – have put work address on it so i try as soon as it arrives.

    • Hell yeah! That’s the right way to celebrate! I hope all of them will be loves and whenever you’ll wear them you’ll remember APJ 🙂

  27. Today’s special fragrance is Bamboo Harmony. This is one of my favourite tea fragrances. It’s special to me because I wore it to my mother’s funeral. She loved her tea and I felt that a tea perfume presented in a luxurious, elegant package was the perfect reflection of her. I still think of her every time I wear it.

  28. Last day of APJ SOTDs. Today I’m wearing the most special perfume that I own: pre World War 1 Jicky. It smells great and, surprisingly, has pretty good longevity; I can still smell it on my skin after 9 hours.

So long; it’s been fun. See you in other places, I hope.
