What were your most reached for fragrances in 2014?

Hey Hey Fumies!!

The other night I was reading Perfume Shrine and they had this question. I found it so interesting what everyone had worn. We talk a LOT about the newest, freakiest, skankiest and get really hardcore on the blogs every year but to see what everyone really wears, in real life, is great.

So I’d like to put it to you APJ.

What were your most reached for fragrances in 2014?

Shalimar EdC Shopping

My first answer is what I put up on Perfume Shrine but that was written off the top of my head and I have been thinking hard about the answer. What I will do is put up my previous answer and the more realistic one…

Hey There,
I LOVE these questions. Would you be terribly offended if I asked the same question at APJ?
Here are my most reached for..
Shalimar by Guerlain
Fleur de Male by Gaultier
Coco by CHANEL
Mohur by Neela Vermeire
Liberte by Cacharel

Portia,
you’re very welcome to repeat this on Australian Perfume Junkies! Thanks for adding your contribution here. And so please tweet me the link when you’re done so I can RT 🙂

After consideration answer:
Shalimar by Guerlain
Amoureuse by Parfums DelRae
Ombre Mercure by Terry de Gunzburg
Mohur by Neela Vermeire
Liberte by Cacharel

I did wear Fleur de Male and Coco quite a bit but Amoureuse and Ombre Mercure were really easy, elegant and unusual things to wear for work, so I would often grab them through the whole year.

Liberte by Cacharel Fragrantica

Now it’s your turn. What were your most reached for fragrances in 2014?

  1. My signature fragrance is Brin de Reglisse from Hermes, so that has been an often reached for fragrance… Lavender AND liquorice – I’m instantly sold.

Habit Rouge is an obvious answer too…. Immense love!
Cuir de Russie and Sycomore from Chanel, and Dans Tes Bras (Frederic Malle) are all very enjoyable. I’ve also discovered my aphrodisiac fragrance – Eau Sauvage!!!

My my there is so much!

      • Yes, I have tried the Parfum out. I’ve got the EdT. I find for some Chanels I prefer the EdT (no. 22) and for some others the Parfum (Bois des Iles). I could have both for CdR!

  2. Ooh what a great question!

You’re quite right-I talk the talk but what I wear and what I review are often two different things (although I always wear a scent before I review it).

My most grabbed this year were:

Elizabeth Arden Spiced Green Tea (perfect in summer or when hungover),
Gucci Envy (There isn’t room to explain how much I love it), Balmain Jolie Madame,
    Tauer Carillon Pour Un Ange
and most recently, 4160 Tuesdays Tart’s Knicker Drawer.

I shall be thinking about this question for ages!

best wishes from Old South Wales to New South Wales.

    • Hey Samantha!!
Great to see you. Gucci Envy is one of the MOST complimented fragrances I wear, every time at least one person asks me.

    • I would probably wear Jolie Madame everyday if I had more than a mere 4ml in my little vintage bottle, it comforts me, soothes- I could go on and on but I’ll just say I love it!

  3. Profumum Olibanum, Hermès Paprika Brasil, IUNX Eau Argentine, new love SL Bas de Soie. I did a lot of testing and retesting of my too big sample collection. These scents were the ones I turned to for comfort and when I needed a break from smelling things that were not necessarily relaxed and easy.

  4. Judging by the drop in the level of perfume in the bottle, I would say Bottega Veneta. It’s what I wear when I don’t know what to wear. If that makes sense!

    • Hey there JackieB,
Jin has nearly finished a 75ml of Betega Veneta too. It’s my favourite on him.

  6. Vintage Opium, DK Black Cashmere, and Mona dia Orio Vanille, the three that I love enough to hoard lifetime supplies of. I try hundreds of scents, but those are the ones that I would get acutely anxious if I didn’t have.

  7. In my year of unemployment I seldom wore perfume – taking a break I guess! However, when I did squirt something on, it was usually Shalimar, Lou Lou, or Montaigne, all comfort fragrances for me.

  9. Hmmm! Well, spanning all the months since last January, La Petite Robe Noire EdP, Rosae Mundi by Profumum, Rubj Voile d’Extrait, and Liqueur Charnelle have gotten heavy use. But one that I use all year, every year is Annick Goutal’s Eau du Sud- I just LOVE it!

  14. In the cold weather, Slumberhouse Zahd and Neil Morris Prowl (like wrapping yourself in blankets). In warmer weather, Amoureuse (love the way it amps up in the heat) and L’Artisan Ananas Fizz.

    • Hi there ElizabethZ,
Zahd is amazing, isn’t it? So sweet and fruity at the start. I admit that though I loved it I rarely wore Zahd so I passed mine along to someone who really loved it.

  15. Me late as usual.
Thank you for a very interesting question Portia. I have to think long and hard on this one…

I think some of my perfumes that I wear regularly are in various categories:
Instant Sophistication (I wish I were): AG’s Musk Nomad and Prada’s L’Eau Ambree
Instant Calm: L’AP’s Dzongkha and AG’s Encens Flamboyant
Instant Strength (to help me face difficult situations): Herme’s Bel Ami and Warrioress by Boadicea The Victorious
Instant Cash (too far from reality): Amouage’s Jubilation XXV, Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille. These are my special occasions default choices.
No brainers: L’AP’s The Pour Un Ete (my sport fragrance) and Halston’s Man Amber (can’t believe they discontinued it)

Judging by the volume used then L’Eau Ambree is the clear winner although I tend to way overspray that one as it needs a bit to show itself on me.

I just realised how I’ve neglected so many of my other fragrances. Bad bad Tim.

  16. Shalimar, current EDP, got the most wear, for sure. Donna Karan’s Black Cashmere became a firm favourite in 2014. Shalimar PI also got considerable wear. Chanel no.5 Eau Premiere is a recent favourite too. HdP Tubereuse 1 is so wearable and gorgeous 🙂
