Just Generally

Hi All,

Today I am going to quickly run down my weekends fragrance wear. It’s been pretty hectic around here, loads of work, home shenanigans, friend drama, shopping, living, loving and finally TSO Jin and I have booked a holiday. We will be jetting off to far flung destinations in January. Leaving our glorious summer for your Northern winter. I am so excited, 2010 was my last holiday and I’ve not yet traveled with Jin so that is always a relationship settler or a disaster zone. Can’t WAIT!!!

We spend 3 weeks in Europe so I hope to see all my Euro blogging buddies and then a week in rural, seaside Korea to meet Jin’s parents. OMG! That should be interesting. Oh well. Secure in the knowledge that I’m the most frightening thing in the universe I think I’ll cope, but will he? Will they? HE HE Poor feckers won’t know what hit them,

Photo Stolen Fragrantica

Guerlain- Aqua Allegoria- Lys Soleia- I wear this newby to my collection and feel like an Empress. It is gorgeous on me, to me and I am gagging for the bee bottle. Flowers, sunshine, fruit (and to me salt & coconut though they’re not listed) Full review coming.

Olympic Orchids- Golden Cattleya- A guaranteed compliment grabber, unusual, sensuous, a little bit dirty but all lovely night blooming orchid. So good it feels a little bit evil. At 30ml EdP $40 you can’t go wrong!! Sample program excellent.

SIOVOHLE- Wild Ginger Chai- I thought I’d packed Leather Krem but it was Wild Ginger Chai and I had 3 random, unsolicited compliments. one person coming in close and saying, “Wow! You smell so amazing!” and then doing that disgusting hum/moan/purr thing we all do when fragrance transports us. It was spooky but great. At 15ml EdT $30 a very affordable frag and they have a super sample program.

Un named sample- Clayton at WhatMenShouldSmellLike gave me this to try and I think it’s a lavender masculine but it is tenacious and strident and dries down like a year later and generally reminds me of a Tabac type offering. I enjoyed it immensely.

Photo Stolen Parfum d’Empire

Parfum d’Empire- Ambre Russe- What a powerhouse of fabulous this is. Smoky, Russian teas, floral, pipe tobacco, booze, incense, burning, magical and musky firebrand of a fragrance. Why don’t I wear this every day? Ah May ZIng! These guys also have an extraordinary sample program and 100ml is only 90 Euro.

SurrenderToChance 40% off SALE!!!
is currently happening too. I have gone with $100 to spend and scored myself some incredible bargains. Yes, I write for Perfume Posse but I get no kickbacks for doing so. I just LOVE THEIR SHIT!!! For $100 I can get 30ml of 10 or 15 fragrances. Such a great way to get to know a bunch of different fumes.

  1. OMGosh! Thanks for posting this music video. Why have I never heard this before? Totally groovin to it. LOL, I’m such a nerd/geek.
Totally love the Parfum d’Empire scents I’ve tried. Love, love, love Equistrius. I think I need to try me some Olympic Orchids!
Off to do my barn chores. Think I will try Lys Soleia when I get back.
Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Europe. You must post details when you return!!

    • HAH! I’ll be posting all through January and february while we are away. Don’t worry about that.
Do try the olympic orchids and Lys Soleia, tell me how you liked them when you do please,

      • Back from the barn, all physically tired, but very happy. Wearing Lys Soleia, it feels like spicy sunshine in a bottle to me. Can’t smell the musk, so I’m guessing it’s white musk. The ylang-ylang adds a slightly spicy feel to it. The lily is beautiful and sunlit. And I can only smell the tuberose if I bury my nose in my arm. It almost feels too pretty and well dressed for someone like me. I need to go find a proper dress in my closet and change out of these jeans and tee, while wearing this.

      • Hmmm ? I have the original infusion and infusion vetiver ! Two scents I really enjoy wearing ! The original is very barber shop , talcy and it’s one that can be a little to much in the wrong weather ! It’s my just out of the shower scent !
Vetiver is sharp and zesty , Devine bottles and really long wearing ! Def worth a sniff! I get lots of compliments on vetiver! The woman’s line is not to my taste, it’s ultra feminine and very classy, I pefer more pungent scents when I’m on the other side , still i have gifted man loved ones a little Prada here and there as the are super luxe, well made and I really admire Prada as a brand ! Not a fan of the first two releases for men, headache material, but again really lovely bottles!!!!

      • The Prada line, in my humble opinion, is nice and kind of elegant, but in a muted fashion. I am a lover of statement sillages (yeah, Kilroy was here kind of sillage, ruining the carefully made fragrance zones of everone else, mehehehe), and this none of the Pradas provide. However, I had a bottle og Prada L’eau Ambrée – loved it much, but very skin close and almost gone after a couple of hours. Had it been stronger, I would probably repurchased.Nah, the Pradas – lovely but weak. No stamina what so ever.

So you are visiting the Olde World? I am a bit too curious perhaps and not minding my own business at all, but which countries and cities do you plan to honour?

And the best of luck meeting your in-laws. I am sure they will love you. First time I met my first “real” boyfriends parents (I was 18, decades ago now), I sat in the car for 15 minutes, scared stiff. They turned out to be the lovliest unscariest persons ever. They even took me in for a while when my bojjo and I broke up, and I had nowhere to go.

  3. Hi Portia, I have enjoyed reading your blog immensely for the past 6 months. First time I have decided to comment (I’m usually an avid blog reader, not responder!). Your comments on the Parfum d’Empire- Ambre Russe are too enticing to ignore, love dark winter frags and will definitely try it. My perfume collection grows steadily, hubby can’t understand how I can wear them all in a lifetime! Feeling a bit under this Spring Monday morning, so need something cosy and warm, will be wearing Donna Karan Cashmere Mist.

    • Hey JanineDelio,
Welcome to the APJ family. Now you’ve got the first comment out of the way I hope to be reading you often. It’s funny how the mania jumps on us, your loved ones will all shake their heads. My only welcoming advice is SET YOURSELF A MONTHLY BUDGET. Also, buy decants and samples. We will never go through most of our fragrances, it’s true but it will be EXCELLENT fun trying. Where are you? North or South Hemisphere?
I hope you enjoy the journey,
      Portia xx
