Hermes: Jour d’Hermès by Jean-Claude Ellena 2013

I wanted to do a review on Jour D’Hermes so I spritzed with abandon down my shirt at Hermes and got a fresh whiff of something lovely but I couldn’t identify it. Then I was captured by our fabulous SA and we talked about the new colourway for the Gloria Petyarre scarf, which in pink, lilac and orange is quite delicious, and a few other bits and pieces. Unfortunately as I left the shop all traces of fragrance had been eaten by my skin. GONE! Had not left a skerrick of anything where once it was. Sadly Jour d’Hermes is an epic fail for me. The ads though are beautiful and elegant, please enjoy them.

Oh dear! I sprayed this on skin and just forgot to pay attention to its development, but can’t recall if it disappeared prematurely or not. My vague recollection is of a big tart, juicy airy thing, a bit like a rhubarb version of Elie Saab.

Lots of people are loving JdH and I’m glad but the fact that you can’t remember a development says a lot, don’t you think?

I wasn’t impressed. I found it to be bright, fruity-ish, and some white flowers, but nothing remarkable. In fact, I thought it was disappointingly typical of many current main-stream scents. I did test it and it didn’t last very long on me – about 2 hours.

I’ve had this problem with every Hermes that I’ve tried, except 24 Faubourg,which goes on and on. L’Ambre des Merveilles is my favorite autumn day scent, but lasts about an hour. I think there is a skin-hex on my when it comes to Hermes.

I have great luck with the Jardin series, Bel Ami and Rocobar. I have tested all the Marveilles and have a bottle of the first one as yet unopened. These all stay on my skin well, the Marbeilles less so, but JdH not.

L’ambre does not last on my skin either…sprayed my entire arm furiously one day whilst in Sephora and within an hour and a half it was gone.

This perfume didn’t work for me at all. All I got was some mere florals and carrots.

We haven’t had someone who really loves it yet Lucasai. I know of some bloggers who do and trust their knowledge enough to want to go try it again without the world spinning so fast. I think I’ll ask for a sample.

I haven’t tried this one because I had a feeling it would be a fail for me too. Now I know I was right. If your skin ate it up then mine will most likely do the same thing.

I tried it at Nordstrom and was not impressed. Honestly, although I love the Jardin series, I am tiring of Ellena’s work. It is all so m’eh.

Sorry this one didn’t last for you. There are a few scents that don’t last at all on my skin and it’s so disappointing when it happens. I think there was even an Ormonde Jayne that I could smell it as I spritzed it, but by the time it hit my skin I couldn’t detect it at all. Then there are the scrubbers that you dislike to the core of your being and they seem to last for days, no matter how much soap, water and elbow grease you apply to them.
I truly love this one. The opening reminds me a tad of L’Artisan Batucada. For me it’s a happy spring fragrance. That said, I didn’t open my wallet for a brand new bottle. I waited until some one on FFF had a bottle that was almost full that they wanted to sell at a discount. So I lucked out. If that opportunity hadn’t presented itself I’m not sure I would have bought a full bottle. Saving my pennies for a full bottle of Mito.

I thought the bottle was lovely so I almost hoped to like it: it has been a while since I bought any mainstream full bottle. The first time I tested it on skin I didn’t like it much so I didn’t remember for howlongit stayed. Definitely not long enough to bother me. The second time I decided to test it a couple of days ago.It was nicer that time (still not FBW) but it disappeared withing a couple of hours – together with Eau de Pamplemousse Rose on the other wrist. I want more from my perfumes. At least 3 hours! Or I should be madly in love with it to bring a decant and keep re-applying.
