Hi Poodle!
Did I mentions before that Blue Headed Pionus parrots have a perfume that they somehow emit when they are excited or happy or stressed? Gomez’ perfume is a kind of powdery, honeyed floral. It is quite lovely and I wish I knew how he made it.
Thanks so much to everyone for sharing the great memories! I’ll start putting the decants together right away for the winners!

I know about their smell. I love it. I would love to have one but the one at the bird store where I take mine to get their wing and nail trims seems rather uninterested in me.

What kind of birds do you have, Poodle? By the way your post reminded me to get Gomez his trims too.
Most Blue Headed Pionus I’ve seen seem to be a bit stand off-ish and shy but once they know you they can be quite affectionate. They are also said to be quiet birds! That has to be a joke or a down right lie! (Are any birds quiet???) Gomez has a sweet, soft talking voice but when he wants something he sounds like a Stellars Jay on steroids, his volume set to damage human ear drums.

I’ve got a green cheek conure and a pacific parrotlet. My conure is quiet, it’s my little guy who’s got the big mouth. The conure can be nippy and a little over zealous when he tries to groom me and remove things he feels should not be there, like freckles. Ouch.

Green Cheeks are so cute and so are parrotlets. A quiet conure? Are all Green Cheeks quiet? Poodle, you hit the parrot jackpot! Lucky!!!

Oh, how exciting! Thanks, I am looking forward to trying these. And great picture, even if Gomez refused to cooperate.

Hi Monoatomic,
I’m glad you like the picture of Gomez! I’ve decanted the lanvins, boxed them up and now all I have to do is go down to the post office. They should go out this afternoon. I hope you enjoy them.

I love the picture of Gomez. He does at least look like he was thinking about drawing a piece of paper 🙂

Hello Nemo,
Gomez is a lot more photogenic than I am, but then he is a lot younger than I am! He was hatched in 2002.
