Nature by Yves Rocher 1993

Hiya Vintage Vixens!

My mate and fellow APJ contributor Ainslie Walker gave me this decant a while ago and I have only now grabbed it out and spritzed it on my skin. Sadly it’s been discontinued and I can see a few pieces on eBay but everywhere else seems sold out. How lucky I feel to have been given a chance to wear this green beauty, you may get the chance too……

Parfumo gives these featured accords in one line:
Freesia, Jasmine, Lily-of-the-valley, Mandarin, Peppermint leaf, Rose, Daphne, Cedar

Stark green, galbanum and a very regal peppermint bouquet. Though I can smell flowers they are a crystalline spiky arrangement, beautiful and angular. Sadly this opening is brief and suddenly the whole fragrance changes to a warm, spicy green wood. WOW! That was totally unexpected. Suddenly Nature is an elegant and cozy fragrance with whispers of jasmine wending their way through the galbanum and a lovely sweet spicy rose makes her appearance.

To my nose there are some slightly feral undertones here like a just past clean armpit, not yet stinky but warmed through a bit of heat and exertion. Wrapped up with the rest of the notes it gives interesting dimension and depth.

I have to give this sample away, if I wear it even one more time my life will end up in a chronic search for this fabulous fragrance. Nature is beautiful, unusual and really interesting. Yves Rocher often surprises me.

  1. I follow via email. Hmmm, green. I automatically think of chypres. Not a big fan of them and don’t like green tea scents either. In nature, grass. Fresh cut grass. And hay at the barn with my horse. The Soft Lawn by Imaginary Authors captures it.

I’m new to perfumes and green notes, but in nature I love the smell of tomato vines. It is a mix of the wild, food and summer all rolled into one beautiful aroma.

  3. I follow via the eagerly awaited nightly email. Green? For me, a toss up between Vent Vert and Ma Griffe. Ma Griffe’s freshness lends an aura of effortless style, while Vent Vert elegantly states that I am a woman of substance, no sweet little floral. Nature’s green fave? Spicy rain soaked camellias.

Where do start? I really love green fragrances…
My all time favourites are Eden, Bel Respiro, Cristalle, Coven by Andrea Maack, Jasmin White Moss by Estee, Blue Grass, Lilith, Kenzo, Safari and quite a few more.
I would really love to try Nature.

  6. Hi, I follow by email.
Thanks for the opportuity to try Nature. My favourite green perfume is Dior’s Tendre Poison. I know that many would debate it being called ‘green’, but to me it is that most elusive of things – a truly warm green.
My favourite natural green scent straight from childhood -fresh cut grass and jasmine at mum and dad’s.

  8. The greenest galbanum I own and love is Chanel 19 and I would like to try all the various iterations to compare them.
The Yves Rocher sounds delicious, but do not enter me please…discontinued spells heartbreak!

  9. Hi, Portia — I follow by email. In nature, I like herby smells such as thyme. Right now I’m loving Eau d’Orange Verte by Hermes. It’s citrusy but not like a fresh orange but a dried one, with lovely green mossy undertones (again, dried moss not fresh). Too bad it doesn’t last long on me. Ciao! ~Fifi

  11. Oo wha, I had completely forgotten about Yves Rocher until now. Brings back nice memories of being a poor student and lusting in an YR shop. My favourite greenish fragrance is vintage Shiseido Inoui, which I love for its aloof, damp mossy connotations. I follow via email. Would love to be in the draw, thanks!

  12. Hey, Portia, Desir de Nature, which according to the good denizens of Fragrantica is similar, is still for sale at Yves Rocher USA. Things do come and go there.

I still haven’t found a green fragrance I like as well as Pauline Trigére Trigére. (Annick Goutal Petite Cherie is pretty great, but I don’t know if it really would be categorized as a green perfume.) I follow with Bloglovin. xx

  18. Do not enter me in the draw.I used Nature for a few years, sometime in the 90s.To me it smelled like cut grass.I now prefer green perfumes which do not become soft so quickly. Love many with green notes: MMM Untitled, Week-End, Sous le toit de Paris,Chamade, Chanel no.19 (would love the perfume Version of that)and many more. I bought the Neroli scent from YR this spring, and it is not bad at all for those days when somthing simple and clean-smelling is wanted.
