Scented greetings to my kindred spirits!

Today I am sparkling in a haze of friendly, approachable confidence. I feel bright and serene, energetic and focused. This is because today I chose to spritz my sample of:

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, lemon, cinnamon
Heart: Jasmine, carnation, rose, cloves
Base: Guaiac wood, vetiver, vanilla and musk

This fragrance is loosely marketed with an air of masculinity, but as with all of Jeffrey’s Artist Collection offerings, Dark Horse can be effortlessly worn by all genders.

I am enamored with this surprising juxtaposition of two scents I normally enjoy only as accents: citrus and spice. They are both finely tuned and harmonized with careful attention. The solar tone features fine shimmering bergamot, sun-ripened lemon, and warm vetiver. The spice is composed of cinnamon and clove (and I suspect nutmeg too), but they are not loud, sharp, or overpowering as they often are in perfumery. The spices are soft and subtle, caressing your skin and your spirit.

The modern elegance and attractiveness of Dark Horse is centered within its personality. This EdP is easygoing and laid back, but cleanly put together. Brilliant, cheerful, and living in the moment – this is the Dark Horse wearer.

Dame Perfumery Scottsdale says: A scent full of raw charisma; quite unpredictable and completely charming. Animal magnetism at its best. Smooth, balanced and …

  1. Erica,
This whole brand intrigues me. In 2013 I got to meet Jeffrey Dame and he was extremely urbane and charming, great company. Back then he was working another line and this one seems to have blossomed beautifully too.

  2. Hi Erica,
Jeffrey Dame is one of my favorite perfume personalities. He has been working in perfume land for so many years. I totally trust his taste in fragrance. Dame Perfumery Scottsdale Artists Series (including Dark Horse) are some of my recent favorites https://australianperfumejunkies.com/category/guest-post/azar/. I’m also a big fan of Duality, his take on Anne Klein II for Long Lost Perfumes, Todd Oldham by Parlux and so many other fragrances that he has been involved with over the years. I love his latest Musk Man (Men) too! Thank you for another great review.

  3. Dame Perfumery is one of my new favorite niche houses. Jeffrey Dame’s Verbena, Freesia, and Musk helped me get through a long and idfficult summer and remains in my Fall rotation, and I’m eagerly anticipating trying Musk Oil. All of the scents I’ve sampled are well-crafted, interesting – and affordable!

  4. I am wearing the musk oil as we speak, and it’s uttterly delightful. It has a violety-powdery-watercolor glow grounded in a clean, warm, reassuring (and somewhat suggestive) musk. The 5ml, $10 sample bottle is such good value – oodles of fragrant good times. Hurrah for Mr. Dame and his excellent and reasonably priced perfumes! And thank you for this uplifting review of ‘Dark Horse’; most cheering for the gloomy Fall Equinox!
