MERRY CHRISTMAS APJ CREW!

Hey there Crew,

Whether you celebrate or not we hope the spirit of loving your neighbour and peace on earth will be with you at this time. Here are some helpful hints to get you through Christmas 2015.

  1. Congratulate yourself on surviving another year more or less intact.
  2. Nobody gets what they want as a present, smile and thank them for the thought. Straight to Goodwill on Monday.
  3. Remember in times of family stress over the Christmas period, God gave you legs to walk away from a disagreement.
  4. No ones home is perfect, yours is fine.
  5. Everyone is doing their best to cope and fit in, even though it doesn’t look like it.
  6. Unless someone has died everything else is dealable or fixable.
  7. If alone on Christmas, you have to make your own joy. Spritz or dab lavishly of your most exquisite fragrance.
  8. Nobody wants to do the dishes while in a food coma, clear the table of empty plates, scrape them and leave them neatly in the kitchen for later.
  9. Think of three things you can be grateful for. Say “Thank You” out loud for each one.
  10. Remember you are part of the APJ International Fragrance Family and we love you to bits. Thanks for being part of our fragrant lives.

What’s going on here in Sydney? We are having 3 generations of my BFFs family for lunch and a couple of our mates. Every family brings a meat, a salad and a dessert. Jin & I also supply the booze, drinks and bread rolls. It’s very relaxed, loads of fun and I feel so blessed to have them coming, that our home fits everyone and that we get to spoil them all. The day runs from around 11am through to 4pm and then slowly people move off to their next event, there will be some late stayers who will hang out for dinner and some serious couch surfing.

Chanel No 5 Eau de Cologne Chanel FragranticaPhoto Stolen Fragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Aldehydes, bergamot, lemon, neroli, ylang-ylang
Heart: Jasmine, rose, lily of the valley, iris
Base: Vetiver, sandalwood, vanilla, amber, patchouli

What fragrance will I be wearing? This is not set in stone but my idea is to wear some vintage CHANEL No 5 EdC that I bought from the Linda Beth Ross estate and some vint-ish CHANEL No 5 parfum. It’s so easy to wear in the height of summer and that lovely fizzy, out of this world bouquet is timeless. I may change my mind but that’s the plan…. Last year CHANEL No 5 worked so well for Boxing Day I wore it the next day too.

What are you doing for Christmas? Whether there are one or 100 of you please let us know. What fragrance are you wearing?
Peace be with all of you.

  2. Merry Christmas, dear Portia!

On this Christmas Eve my vSO and I celebrated Rusty’s birthday. And tomorrow we’ll go to the friends’ house for dinner. And I haven’t done any work in the last two days. Life is good. 🙂

  3. Merry Christmas to all. It’s been a beautiful sunny day here. After showering with the No 5 soap my son gave me (did you wear No 5 today Portia), I’ve been in No 19 for the rest of the day.

And now it’s eau de prawn heads – we are having a light dinner of garlic prawns and salad.

All the best to you Portia and family – heaps of thanks for a fun year in 2015!

    • Hello annemariec,
Yes, No 5 it was. Perfect.
No 19 would have been a wonderful choice too.
GAK! eau de prawn heads!! I don’t like prawns but the rest of the crew ADORE them. Kath peeled 3kg of them yesterday and they all went crazy.
Wishing you all the good stuff and thank you, I love your posts, energy and enthusiasm.

      • Oh crikey! Kath deserves a medal. We only did one kilo and that was enough! Delish though. Sorry you don’t like them, but there’s lots of other yummy food at your place I’m sure.

    • That sounds really delicious, would haave liked to know how you prepare the prawns, just adore prawns and am rather quick at peeling them, too. Rubbing your hands with lemon afterwards and rinsing helps getting rid of the smell(more or less).

  4. Merry Christmas gorgeous!
Thank you for your thoughtful post.
The second half of 2015 has not been good. However I did meet a couple of wonderful people, one of them being yourself, during this time. It is definitely one of my highlights of 2015. Thank you!!!
Today is also the first time I am being totally selfish and spend the day at home by myself doing whatever I want: drinking, eating and watching Netflix.

Perfume wise I’ve gifted myself a bottle of Frapin’s 1697 today and that what I am wearing now: all boozy, vanilla-y rosy goodness.

Have a fragrant and fantabulous holiday.

  6. Merry Christmas to all!
We have to see his family in the early part of the day and mine later. Often it feels like my Christmas is spent in the car. Hubband and I are waiting until tomorrow to open our gifts because we’re sick of rushing through everything and want to make Christmas last a little. It’s unusually warm here for late December so it doesn’t feel much like Christmas.
I hope everyone has a fun and fragrant day!
    Hugs.

  7. Hello and thank you for APJ, and especially your wise list. I love the two legs to walk away from a disagreement 🙂 Christmas today was a late breakfast for the overnight stay Japanese working holiday student my daughter ‘adopted’. To show him our Christmas tradition we put out carrots for the reindeer and mince pies for Father Christmas! Today hot in Melbourne but I spritzed Chamade, a long awaited gift. The magic remains!

  8. Today it’s hard to remember that Christmas used to be a stressful time for me. As you so wisely say above, I learned that I had legs to walk away from conflicts that couldn’t be resolved, and now I am drinking good strong coffee with my beloved husband, enjoying the prospect of dinner later with friends that I truly want to see, and wearing my beloved winter holiday scent, the original Fendi Theorema. Bliss. Joy and peace to all, in whatever condition you find yourselves today.

  9. Wishing you, Portia, and all the readers and contributers a cheerful Christams with lots of fragrant gifts!
I celebrated yesterday together with my husband and it was a very easygoing, lovely day centered on eating, eating and eating (my trouses actually cracked…)
Today, on the 25th we have an anual ritual: we went to the Bodemuseum with some friends and marvelled at all the „Maria with Jesus“ sculptures from the Renaissance time –they have the most wonderful Christmas tree and a wonderful café (so eating cake again). A couple of days ago I found two samples of Amouage Fate and wore three spritzes of the woman’s one and two of the man’s one on each arm. Delicious!

  11. Portia dear and APJers – Family illness has made this a hard year. I give thanks for your joy which shines right through my computer screen and helps lighten some of the dark times. Someday I’ll make it to Oz and test myself at one of your trivia nights! and today I’m wearing Tihota which I won in an APJ giveaway. So you’ve made my life better in so many ways!

  12. Spending a very pleasant, quiet Christmas with my honey and the doggies. I’m not even doing any proper cooking! We came up to Connecticut yesterday and I had to deal with a flying squirrel in the house, but luckily I managed to get it outside. Today we opened prezzies and I’m lounging around listening to some favorite Christmas music, and I’m wearing the lovely Larmes du Desert, thanks to a tip from Josie. Merry Christmas!

  13. I am not wearing anything. Costume National Homme is wearing me. What a nuclear longevity and sillage with just three sprays. Kinda reminds me of Ferragamo Pour Homme which was one of my first acquisitions in the early 2000s.

  14. I hosted the family at our place, sort of impromptu, so we were very happy at how many showed up, including some who have been OS for a year, and a couple of new recruits. After what has been a pretty difficult year on the family front, it was nice to have a loud and fun party.

I wore Geranium Pour Monsieur. Today, with the weather breaking, I am lounging around in Bamboo Harmony.
