RIP Gucci Marie Turbo 200? – 13.1.2016

Post by Portia

Gucci is gone. She looked me straight in the eyes when the vet gave her the injection and then she laid her head down and died. It was peaceful and dignified. I am sad but curiously happy for her too.

Thank you all for your messages of support, your love and for sharing your stories of your beautiful pets.

Perfume people are the best. I floated on the wings of your love and Gucci left this world in as perfect a way as could be arranged.

What fragrance did I wear? For the night before I drenched myself in Gucci Envy Me and then for the day I wore Gucci Eau de Parfum, tonight I will wear Gucci No 3, tomorrow I will wear Gucci Envy Men.

RIP Gucci Marie Turbo

Here are some shots of our last days together.

Gucci Marie Jan 2016 #1

Gucci Marie Jan 2016 #2Final family photo, it was a sad moment but thank goodness for Kath & Jin. No one could ask for better people in  their lives.

Gucci Marie Jan 2016 #3Gucci’s last morning, she is telling me it can’t be time to wake up yet.

Gucci Marie Jan 2016 #4Jin says his final goodbye before going to work.

Gucci Marie Jan 2016 #5Once Jin has left Gucci & I scurry onto the main bed. He He he. Don’t tell Jin.

Gucci Marie Jan 2016 #6Here is Gucci’s last photo. I walked her the two short blocks to the vet so I wouldn’t have to drive afterwards. We took 20 minutes to get there because Gucci needed to stop and rest and also to give her one last sniff of this world. It looks like she is smiling but in reality she cannot breathe and is desperately trying to get some air.

The vet was so sweet. Every time she sees Gucci she asks what we did to keep her in such good condition, even though she can’t breathe and she has lost a lot of weight she still has silky soft fur, is alert and looks old but healthy.

Gucci had the needle, looked me straight in my eyes and was desperately trying to communicate something (I’m so stupid I couldn’t tell if it was Thank you or Why?) and with the vet repeating “Good Girl” and me repeating “Thank You” and “Good Luck Gucci” she went on to the next big adventure.

Farewell my beautiful skinny blonde bitch, there is now a Gucci shaped hole in my world.

Thank you all for your messages. Be well.

  1. Our two souls therefore, which are one,
Though I must go, endure not yet
    A breach, but an expansion,
Like gold to airy thinness beat. – John Donne

I can’t improve on this, but I will add that I’m so sorry. I will be thinking of you, Jin, Kath, and Gucci.

    xoxo Molly

  2. With much sympathy, Portia, on the loss of your beautiful friend. I don’t know the right words, but I hope that your being there with her at the very end will comfort you in knowing that she was safe and free from pain when she left you. I stayed with my cat when it was her time. I know and understand that a lot of people can’t stay till the end but I still find some comfort from being there and absolutely knowing that she was safe and not stressed or frightened at the end xx.

    • Thanks Katherine,
Part of living is the pain. I would go through 10x this for Gucci and still do it all again, even knowing.
      Portia xx

  3. Sending lots of love to you and Jin, Portia. For those of us for whom our pets are family, it’s truly beyond heartbreaking, even when it’s the right thing to do for them. My heart and thoughts are with you xo

  4. Dearest Portia,
sending love and hugs from a furthest place!
I see pets as our guardian angels on Earth, and when they leave us, they are freed. Have a brightest passage, Gucci Marie! You are a star!

  5. Oh, Portia, my deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Bravo for being so strong for Gucci. I was with my Sophie, a mutt of mutts, when her time came a couple of years ago, but I was sobbing so hard I think I was the opposite of reassuring. It is so hard to lose a pet. It’s a testament to their absolute wonderfulness that they are more than worth the pain.

  6. This beautiful post brought tears to my eyes, Portia. It sounds like your parting was what anyone could hope for given the circumstances.

I love the photos of her final days with you so much. What an inspiration to relish the time you have left with a loved one. It reassures me to know you have such a great family unit to support you through this.

Sending you a big hug and lots of love. Brighter times are just around the corner and that hole will soon be replaced with happy memories of your girl xxx

    • Hey Tara,
I would do it all again in a heartbeat. Even knowing how hard this part is. Gucci was great, we are having a years break and then we’ll talk about another beautiful greyhound.
      Portia x

  7. So sorry for your loss, Portia. As my favorite cat blogger would say, Gucci crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and is now in his new happy place frolicking with his friends.

  8. Just crawled out of bed and you’ve got me in tears. Ugh. I certainly know what you’re going through. There will never be another Gucci. I hope the happy memories bring you some comfort. I’d like to think that when she looked at you she was not asking why but rather trying to thank you for all the years of love and for not letting her ever suffer.

    • Poodle,
I just had the hugest meltdown over that exact question. It was the most intense look as if she was trying to see into my soul, or maybe on the brink of death she did.
I hope she saw all the love.
Yes, I think it was thanks.
      Portia xx

  9. The photos are lovely. I’ve always been comforted seeing what a peaceful passing our beloved pets have from euthanasia in the hands of a kind vet. I remember when Irwin and I had to have our 15-year-old pug, Sally (aka The Russian Grand Duchess) put down, we were standing out on the street afterwards, crying, and realized we could see through a window into the room where it had just happened. The vet, having no idea we were watching (it was dark out) very tenderly wrapped her in the towel she had been lying on and carried her out of the room as carefully as if she had been a newborn baby. I will never forget that.
Much love to you. I know you will find comfort in the love of all your friends worldwide and your happy memories of your life with Gucci oxoxoxoxox.

  10. Portia, I’m so sorry for the loss of your beloved Gucci. I truly believe animals know what is in our hearts better than anyone. I know she knew how much you love her and how you wanted only the best for her. I noticed another post mentioned The Rainbow Bridge. It’s a lovely poem in memory or our lost fur babies. When you’re up to it, it might bring you some comfort. Hugs to both you and Jin.

  11. Oh Portia, my four legged just asked me to pass on a big lick and wet dog kisses to you! And I think her take on the matter of Gucci’s last ‘words’ to you would be something like: It is really o.k. because Life is O.K. which means you are really O.K. and I am really O.K. Really.

  12. Dear Portia,
I could almost hear Gucci panting in the photos! I’m SURE she was trying to tell you “Thank you for This and for Everything”. Oh dear…
    Azar xxxx

  13. Dear Portia, I’m sure it was “thank you.” How could it be anything else? She lived her life with you and Jin and Kath in it – she could ask for nothing more.

  14. Portia, once again my deepest sympathies. And, like many others, I’m sure, if anything, she was saying “Thank you.”
Hugs to you and those in your life who were touched by this huge loss.
