Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 9 – 15 July 2018
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

My SOTD is Le Cri De La Lumiere from Parfum D’Empire. It is indeed a luminous veil of rose and iris with a radiant dose of ambrette. It is glorious and sunny. I love most of PdE’s line, especially Tabac Tabou. I do, however miss the older, plainer, larger, cheaper bottles. I’m not a fan of paying for luxe packaging. I can’t wear packaging and, at my age, no one sees my boudoir.😂 Cheers!

Today I wore Ann Gerard Cuir Nacre. I don’t know what’s going on with this one because I can barely smell it. Other people report the sillage is very weak but I imagine it must be an anosmia issue as well, which is a shame because I love a soft suede.
After a while of that I sprayed some Eau des Missions over the top. Yum.

LOL! I figured you meant blind buys! I live in the countryside as well and my “local” sephora is quite a distance away. It is very small and doesn’t have nearly the large amount of offerings that the Sephoras in the city do. I tested the new Nests (Cocoa Woods and Black Tulip) and Eau de Merveilles Bleue. They were all pleasant but not enough to make me want full bottles….which for me is a good thing 🙂

Woke up too early this morning, so decided to spray some soothing perfume and try to go back to sleep. NV Niral was the easiest sample to find. A pretty, calm perfume which still isn’t on my FB-list of perfumes to buy.I like it, don’t love it: I still haven’t tried Bombay Bling which I sense may fill a gap in my collection, so hope to find “my” NV perfume in the future.
Clouds and summer rain today, more like normal summer than the temperatures we have had lately. Forgot to put on perfume during the day, but will spray on some Acqua di Parma Gelsomino Nobile edp in the early evening, my experience is that this one really blooms in summer. I need a change from the many citrus scents I usually wear.

Gelsomino Nobile is not very i challenging. Ther’s some citrus and then jasmine, but creamy rather than very indolic i think you might say. The brand usually has polished perfumes, doesn’t it?
Well, good not to fall for everything, but it so happens I’m waiting for a partial bell jar of tubéreuse criminelle, to arrive in August. Hopefully thinking of it will keep me away from too much tax free shopping later this month.

Wearing Terracotta Le Parfum this Monday morning. Inspired by Brigitte’s current loyalty to Melograno, I plan to wear Terracotta daily for a while. Hope to enjoy a good portion of this bottle over the summer.
Terracotta was new when I first fell down the perfume rabbit hole, was it in 2014? I remember reading the reviews on perfume blogs, the rush of excitement. Bought a sample from STC and fell in love. By then all of the bottles were gone and I had to wait to find one. Terracotta was first announced as a limited edition, but it seems like it has been available every summer so far, so I’m safe for now.

I was going to suggest lavender but since that isn’t an option maybe a soft musk? Kumba Made has some nice musk oils or Dame Perfumery Musk for Man (it’s completely unisex). Also, maybe something with heliotrope? LT Piven’s Heliotrope Blanc? Or something with almonds? Berdoues Tonka & Almond?

That would be LT Piver…also thought of perhaps something that smells like expensive soap or clean sheets such as Jo Malone French Lime Blossom or something from the Philosophy line (Amazing Grace, Pure Grace, Baby Grace or Inner Grace) or the Clean line (some of their earlier releases).

Muscle Ravager is superb as a new name. (My phone has renamed Agar Ebene as “Again Ebeneezer”, which has mentally overwritten the real name.)

I made a list this morning and between skin and sprayed cards I tested 35 fragrances yesterday..lots of stuff that everyone raves about that I have never gotten my nose on.

None were nopes…I could easily wear everything…but some were just likes while others were really like. Here’s what I got my nose on- Eau Plureille, Vinaigre (weird), eau de Lierre (really like), Fleure de Peau, Lente, L’eau, Velvet Lavender (really like), Future Bloom (really like), Melrose Freesia, 1947 Dahlia, HRH PEony, Apollo Hyacinth, Un Air de Bretagne (really like), Pimant Brulant, Poivre Piquant, Seville a L’Aube, Bacarat Rouge 540,Sambac Jasmine & Marigold, 154 (would like this for my son), Musc Ravageur (do not change to muscle!!!) Portrait of a Lady, Bicarade Concentre, Jasmine Marzipane, Orange Bicardes, Iris Dragees, Santal Kardamon, Cedre Sambac, Myrrhe Eglantine, Agar Ebene, Cardamusc, Musc Pallida (the Hermes lasted a New York minute on my scent eating skin), Morning Chess, Room Service, Ta’if, Champaca, Frangipani and Chat Perche.

Wow, you’d smelled all of those in two hours?! Perseverance is everything for a perfumista, isn’t it :)?

yup! I wanted to take advantage of the fact that all those great niche fragrances were right there in front of me! What I missed out on were the Serge Lutens, Dior, Chanel and Guerlain…from what I heard there is a custom bar in the Guerlain section….you take a quiz and the computer creates a custom scent for you, bottled and made right there in the store. It definitely deserves a second trip 🙂

I’m wearing Bois d’Iris by TDC which I love but in this summer heat it turns somewhat carrotty.
Hope you all are having a great weekend!

I’ve been wearing Seville à l’aube earlier today. Now I plan to put on BV Knot for the night.
Still having trouble finding the right SOTD when it is this warm. Thursday I put on 6-7 sprays of Dior Escale à Pondichery, but with the heat and torrential rain with thunder and lightning I didn’t keep the fresh feeling for more than an hour! However, I did manage to place an order for a new bed. Now if I could only find some good chests of drawers. I tend to fall for design furniture and sometimes those pieces aren’t quite worth the price tag they come with. Just like perfume, not everything is a must-have on closer inspection.

On Friday morning, I had an earworm of a bit of doggerel I wrote and published here a few years back, which inspired my choice of fragrance:

Saturday was Bastille Day, so I had to go French. I chose HdP Rosam. I went to the football and had the horrible thought that the team wearing red, white and blue might beat us on Bastille Day, but fortunately that didn’t happen.
Today it is ice all over the car, a serious nip in the air and just bloody cold. To perk myself up I’m indulging myself in a rarity – Dior Jules.

Jules is so sexy….Do you own a couple of bottles ,Greg? I so wish I had have brought a few, because it is so gorgeous.

I have one partial bottle of Jules after shave that I found in an op shop, and a mini that I got on ebay as part of a vintage Dior coffret (which also had vintage Eau Sauvage, Eau Sauvage EDP and Fahreneheit in it).
I feel like that’s not a lot, so I tend to wear it very sparingly, like my Envy for Men. I guess I have to use them eventually but, once I do, that will be it.

Faffing about with packing, so I will almost certainly smell of *everything* today, as I work out which scents to take with me tomorrow when I head off to Germany for a research summer school/colloquium. It’s going to be stupidly hot, and I want to find the right mix of interesting-inoffensive-non-overwhelming-courage-inducing fragrances to wear. (I’m thinking No.19 for the day I give my paper, maybe some Copal Azur, Aeon…)
Inoffensive sounds a bit wishy-washy. I think I just mean avoiding the giants that turn godzilla-scaled in heat and closed rooms.

and I have to add that out of everything I tested this house impressed me the most…sniffing the fragrant pink ribbons this morning I concluded that they are skillfully blended fragrances that remind me of some of the vintage loves of my past…Future Bloom was the other EB that I really liked. Still not itching to buy anything, just appreciating quality perfume 🙂

I had a really bad shift at work last night, and half way through had to ‘get a grip’ in the loo before facing the rest of the hours. I was complimented on my perfume choice, by one colleague I applied Fancy Nights to go to sleep in. Hubby came home from his night shift with a ? broken finger…h saw Doc and awaiting x-ray results tomorrow. Luckily it his left hand affected ,so he can still cut vegies lol. I wore Escale à Pondichéry on Sunday. Then had to change to something more potent while cleaning up the mess and getting rid of the terrible smell resulting from cooking catfish which was surely off, something I wasn’t sure about before it had been in the oven for some minutes. Seriously my whole place was reeking! So put on Citizen Queen , to have something nice to sniff and sat outside while airing all rooms.
I don’t know why I don’t trust my nose more than the “consume by” date, would have saved me 45 minutes of frantic cleaning. I guess this was a reminder to get a better fridge..
