Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 8.10 – 14.10.2018
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

Yes m’am 🙂 I promise to wear gloves next time. But it’s just easier to scrub super hard with bare hands which is why I did it that way.

I’m liking it a lot so far, but I want to spend more time with it. Like Gardoni’s Bogue scents, there’s masses of interest going on in there as things unfold, appear, dance away, and then sneak back around from the peripheries. There’s a big smoky start, but I think it’s far less ferocious than a lot of the reviews are suggesting. I don’t know if I am a monster-tamer, my nose or taste is weird, but this felt like a very comfortable rather than a challenging wear.

No perfume early in the day. Had to see a doctor again, I was in no way able to work yet. So I put on a little Korres White tea, Bergamot, Freesia. Just enough to block out the smell of disinfection liquids and such. So, on the mend (less painkillers), but still not well!

Seems odd, but I haven’t been wearing much perfume over the last few weeks. I think it might have had something to do with going to China and not being allowed to take perfume on part of the trip. So I went about 3 weeks without wearing it, and sort of lost the morning routine of getting some out and spraying it on.
Since then I’ve been wearing some when I remember, but there have been a lot fo days when I just forget. This week I wore Hermès Concentré d’Orange Verte one day, but that’s it, really.

Not allowed to take perfume? OMG that’s unthinkable in my book.

We were on a cruise and they said “no perfume” for that leg. Knowing how strict the Chinese can get at Customs, I figured it was simpler to just leave the perfumes at home rather than risk having something confiscated. I took Armani Code after shave balm with instead.

I figure Portia’s gonna kick me off of this site if I keep muttering on about vacuum cleaners and disease. So, if I was wearing perfume today, it would be Jardin sur Le Toit. For you non-francophones Toit is pronounced Tw-aw.
Not Tw-aw-t. The last t is silent 🤭

It is interesting how (some) insist on the pronunciation they think correct, even when corrected by people in the know. My French and German serve me well, even if my knowledge doesn’t stretch all the way to the European B2 level. Some perfumes really have names fitting the juice in the bottle.

Actually, I was not aiming for a lesson in French pronunciation, rather, I was alluding to the fact that when I am feeling particularly immature, I take childish pleasure in pronouncing it as tw-aw-t.

It’s pronounced Edinbrough or Edinbragh but when you combine it with the Scottish “r” which is pronounced very hard and their specific intonation, it sounds rather strange. I visited Scotland this year and I absolutely love the language although it’s hard to understand for non native speakers of English.

EH-din-bruh is probably the safest/easiest way to pronounce it. It’s not ed-in-buh-RO, which is the version a lot of North American visitors use. Oh, and Glasgow rhymes with something like snow rather than with cow 😉

Paying through the nose- I think on some unconscious level this has stopped me from buying vintage or even things like the Chanel exclusives. Apparently it’s similar to Bronze Goddess eau Fraiche so I’ll have to check that out.

This week has run away with me, and now I have a deadline rushing towards me. A good dose Rozy VdP for the fierceness, with enough familiarity to not distract me too much. (All the tempting new things are put to one side for now… not that there is ANY hardship in wearing Rozy. The more I wear it, the more I love it.)

You know how it goes – the first wearing is always the best because your nose is not used to it. I’ve sprayed 10 times and the projection was almost zero but I could smell it on my clothes and hair during the first 3-4 hours. Hermes knows why they hand out generous 4 ml samples 😉

Thanks for all the deadline luck wishes earlier. I made it! Phew. A conference paper proposal drafted from scratch, edited, and now sent. All in one day. (Yes, I had mistakenly thought the deadline was *next* month. Oops.) Not the best I’ve ever written, but, my fingers crossed as I’d love to write and present this one. 13 hours since I applied Rozy the last wisps are still with me. Nice.
And, though I didn’t leave the house all day (no gym! no swim! ack!) I somehow managed to walk over 7km with pacing-and-think sessions and play-with-the-cats escapes. I break up work sessions with an approximation of the pomodoro technique which then gets me out of my desk chair regularly. Does anyone else use that for writing or other productivity?
LikeLike

Thanks, Neva! After a couple of bad weeks of writing paralysis it felt really good to get something out of the door.
My field is photographic history and visual cultures–and my doctoral research is on networks of amateur photographers.
pomodoro, in short is: focus for 25 minutes, then take up to five minutes break. Repeat. After three or four of ronuds, take a longer break. I try get up and move as much as I can in the gaps. During the focus time: no doing anything else. No sneaky checks of the internet, wandering off to the put the kettle on, etc. It’s really effective… it’s short enough to just crack on, but long enough to be useful.

That’s an interesting topic…my former husband is a professional photographer and once a year he has free courses for chosen amateur photographers. Meanwhile already thirteen generations finished the course and they are functioning as a big family, call themselves The Tribe 🙂
Thanks for the pomodoro technique. I could use it when I have routine office work to do which I usually postpone until forever.

Lovely sunny day today. I’m wearing Arquiste’s L’Etrog Acqua, which has a nice lemony smell laced with woods. This doesn’t get much love from reviewers, but I like it and wear it pretty often. Yuzu Fou….I seem to be on a cumin kick because that is what my wonky nose is smelling (got the same from Aesthete). Has anyone else tried this one and gets what I am getting? It’s got fair staying power, needs topping up at least twice during the day, which seems to be the theme that runs through the Hermessence line. SOT going to bed last nite. Sedona Sweet Grass. I’ll admit to being rather embarrassed about liking it as much as I do. It’s not at all sophisticated and far from complex. It has a similar vibe to Love’s Baby Soft which I wore back in the 70’s, alternating with the big guns of Shalimar, No.5, No. 22, Mitsouko, Rochas et al. It almost acts as a palate cleanser for the nose. And reminds me of the many glorious camping trips we took our girls on in their younger years. Smells like sweet, pristine pine forests. Wisps of the early morning cooking fire mingling with dried pine needles. A simple, innocent perfume. And I really like it. Wonder if I’ll lose my perfumista cred?

I used to wear Shalimar, and loved it. Then I didn’t wear it for a few years, and starting again it just Did Not Work. It was all lemon meringue pie and no depth. So I persuaded the still-smoking mr crikey to wear some of the extrait today. (He’s very obliging and indulgent with these things). Yep, he smells *amazing*. And nothing like pie.
