Irisistible by Tanja Bochnig for April Aromatics

Happy New Year APJ! I cannot quite believe that we are now in the year 2019. It was only yesterday that we rang in the year 2000. How time flies! Especially as I get older it seems to pass by me at lightening speed.

We had a quiet Christmas and New Year this year, which is just what the doctor ordered. Family time is cherished and we managed to spend a lot of quality time together learning new games and playing cards together. As the holidays are now over, I can sit back and reflect on what passed and what is to come.

Irisistible by Tanja Bochnig for April Aromatics

Perfume is a wonderful way to help me reflect, most notably if it is something I love. Iris is one of my absolute favorite notes and although I am willing and in fact eager to try anything with iris in it, I tend to be skeptical as not all iris perfumes suit my skin chemistry.

I held on to my sample of Irisistible for New Years day as that is usually the day where I mentally say good bye to the old year and look forward to what the new year will bring.

Tanja Bochnig shares her inspiration for Irisistible with us. “The iris flower earned its name from the ancient Greek Goddess Iris, a messenger to the Gods, who was thought to use the rainbow as a bridge between heaven and earth. The ancient Greeks believed the rainbow was actually the flowing, multi-colored robe of Iris. Thus these flowers were named to honor the rainbow Goddess and bring favor upon the earth.”

Now, you all know that I am in love with the actual iris flower. It becomes my mission to find as many colors and varieties as I possibly can find in the spring. The flowers are delicate, velvety and yet have robust roots and leaves. They mesmerize me and I am always at the ready to photograph or get lost in thought with yet another iris.

Tanja Bochnig has now mesmerized me with her newest creation. Irisistible is a beauty, a perfume which surprised me and made me realise that there can actually be a new iris perfume which is truly unique.

Irisistible opens up with fresh rooty iris, which does not lean cool nor cold. It is as if the iris root has been sun-kissed. I find it both fresh and warm at the same time which is actually lovely.

The perfume becomes more radiant with a squeeze of citrus which Tanja Bochnig lists as lemon from Italy. As it is so deftly crafted, I cannot detect the individual flowers which have been included. Irisistible remains a predominantly iris centric perfume intricately woven together with other florals throughout its development rounding out the edges making it seemless and full of light. Because of the added florals, Irisistible feels joyful and colourful which makes me connect with and understand Ms. Bochnig’s inspiration. The drydown is a combination of iris and sandalwood, sending me wafts of woody iris dreams as I go through my day. I keep wondering who smells so darn good – and then I relax, exhale and smile as I realize that I am the lucky one wearing Irisistible. I am smitten and lemming for a full bottle.

Truth be told, Irisistible is only the second perfume I have tried from April Aromatics. Have you tried any perfumes from April Aromatics? Which one should I try next?

I have attached some of my favorite iris colors that I have encountered.

Thank you Ms. Bochnig for sending me a sample. I have adored every last drop.

Oodles of fragrant kisses,

Sandra xo

  1. Iris notes are some of my faves, but have never tried April Aromatics. If I didn’t live in a sandy desert I would wish to grow those flowers…how special are they!! Lovely photos.

    • Hi Jackie,
I wish I could grow them as well. Several houses in my neighborhood have them in their garden and I admire their beauty when they are in bloom. I find it interesting that I love the iris note so much when we started off on the wrong foot together.

  3. Thank you for the lovely review Sandra. I too adore irises. Iโ€™ve only samples Nectar of Love from April Aromatics, a beautiful oriental floral with some of my favorite notes. Iโ€™ll look for Irisitible sample as now Iโ€™m so curious. I also love the name of the fragrance!

  4. Hi Sandra, thank you for the review and wonderful pics! April Aromatics was one of the few lines I have been able to wear during a prolonged phase of perfume fatigue (which I think I am gradually moving out of). I love Irisistable as well, I am still planning to wear it next to I love les Carottes as it reminded me of that quite a bit. As Tara wrote Tanja’s perfumes are all great, I recommend Calling All Angels (you need to like incense), Agartha (Luca Turin gave it 1 star but I would give it 5), Rose Wood (lovely rose oud for Winter), Rosenlust, Purple Reign (violet, iris, mimosa) and Bohemian Spice and Erdenstern for darker ones. But they are all good!

    • I am glad to hear that you are coming out of your perfume fatigue Hamamelis. Thank you for the wonderful list, I will be sure to check them out especially Purple Reign and Calling All Angels. Let me know if Irisistible actually helps you move out of your perfume rut. You smell wonderful.

      • I realised a bit late that you are in Rotterdam (I am in the Netherlands). If you wish I can send you AA samples, Calling All Angels, Purple Reign and Pink Wood, and maybe I have some more. I think you have access to my mail address. The only caveat is that I am house bound because of an injury, so it make take a while before I can make it the to the post office!

        • You are far too kind Hamamelis. I don’t have your email address. Could you please email me at sandra dot glittenberg at the land of gmail dot com?
I hope your injury heals quickly. That must be horrible to be housebound.

          • Thank you Hamamelis for offering, that is very kind. But I can take care of it. Sandra please send me an PM via email with your new address and the sample that you would like to try.
Blessings to you both and Hamamelis speedy healing.

  5. I think I may have tried Purple Reign a few years ago but other than that one I am unfamiliar with the offerings or this house. Your iris photos are lovely!

  6. Hey Sandra! I love iris in any form (I’m currently reading all there is about Hiris d’Hermes), those photos are magnificent. I’ve only heard of April Aromatics, so no opinion yet but I’m intirigued :).

    • Hi Diana, Now that you mention Hiris dโ€™Hermes, I realise that I have not tried it properly. Such a shame I cannot get the blue bottle anymore.

      • Oh, I was hoping that you might know the difference between them: I just can’t decide whether to go for the early batch in a blue bottle (50 ml) or choose a slightly used new version made in 2012 (80 ml). The price is the same and I’m tired of marinating this ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Hi Sandra. Happy New Year to you and APJ. I agree with you it’s an iris that is totally unlike any other. It is so good โœจ. I can highly recommend the line and I’ve written about a few on my blog too. Pink Wood is fantastic – rose, oud and woods and it’s really special. Calling All Angels is a warm incense. Bohemian Spice is full of patchouli and spice. This is a line that i really connect with and is one of my favourites. Definitely try more! ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ’ฅ๐ŸŒน

    • Happy New Year to you as well Megan! Thank you for giving me your suggestions and for letting me know that you love the line and Irisistible. Now I will make sure to try more, especially since you say that Calling all Angels is a warm incense. I tend to think of incense as cold and bracing many times.
