Who likes chocolate? Most people I meet enjoy chocolate from time to time. Of course there are exceptions and truth be told, I am always a little bit surprised when someone tells me they do not like chocolate at all.

There are those who like milk chocolate, dark chocolate, chocolate candy bars or even pralines. As a child I loved milk chocolate and as I have gotten older, my taste buds have developed a love for dark chocolate. Anything over 70% will peak my interest.

Switzerland is definitely a place for chocoholics. However, we have not been able to find chocolate at the regular grocery store that suits our dietary needs. That and the fact that the milk chocolate is a sugar bomb with no real cocoa component. As there is truly an amazing choice here, we set out to find chocolatiers where we can get dark chocolate treats.

Bond-T by Sammarco

Would you be happy wearing a perfume inspired by chocolate? I never truly entertained that question myself. Sure, I have worn perfumes with a chocolate note, but they were all sugary sweet concoctions.

Sammarco is a Swiss perfume brand and the nose behind its creations is Giovanni Sammarco. Bond-T is a perfume with a fabulous cocoa note. According to the brand’s website, Bond-T was conceived in Pisa, during a tour of a famous chocolate factory.

Bond-T is definitely a gourmand perfume, however, it differs in the sense that it is not sweet. This is a rich, dark cocoa beautifully mixed with patchouli to give it a special character. When I first spray Bond-T I am taken aback by just how dark cocoa this perfume really it. This is a bar of chocolate at the 95% cocoa. There is no sugar that I can detect at the start. In fact, Bond-T starts out quite animalic and a tiny bit dirty. Knowing my style, I am shocked as how much I adore this opening. Perhaps it is this mysterious opening that lures me in.

What I find interesting is that Bond-T has a background light fruity note in the opening. Many dark chocolate bars are described as having a natural fruity note with no additive aromas, whether it be raspberry, orange or something else. Patchouli is a major component in Bond-T and it gives the perfume an added depth and slight darkness with earthy undertones. I am not quite sure what gives Bond-T an animalic vibe, but it is there. A couple of hours in and there is a slight tinge of sweetness rounding out the edges. It is furry and cozy and ooooh so lovely.

Bond-T is a perfume for adults and for those of us who like a dark twist to a gourmand scent. If you are expecting a sugar bomb you will be disappointed. This is a perfume for the cooler days but I suspect because of the patchouli that it will be beautiful on warmer days as well.

  1. I never thought that a chocolate scent would appeal to me, but you are making this one sound *very* interesting indeed!

    I like dark milks, too, but give me a choice between five kilos of Dairy Milk and 50g of Akesson’s Madagascar 100%? It’s the latter. Every time. I am a huge fan of dark-dark-dark chocolate.   2. Hey Sandra,
    I am mad for chocolate. I try to only have 80% in the house because I just gorge myself otherwise. Dark chocolate is my favourite but also love so many British milk chocolate brands – Aero, Flake, Maltesers, Diary Milk….
    I remember all the samples I tried from Sammarco being really good. I did love one of Cartier’s Les Heures with a chocolate note but it was too pricey.
    As you like By Kilian, have you tried the one called something like Noir Aphrodisiac?

    • Hiya Tara, I completely understand your reason for keeping 80% in the house. I started out that way and now when I eat milk chocolates I find that I just don’t get the chocolate fix I am looking for. All the better for me now. The British milk chocolate brands are so good. I will try to find Sammarco and try the other perfumes. I have not tried the Kilian chocolate properly. Will try to find it here in Basel.

    CHOCOLATE! I love it too. We have a company in Australia called Haig’s. It’s the best chocolate I have ever had. I’m no connoisseur but it hits all the markers for me.
    Chocolate fragrance? I don’t think I have a real favourite, I like some with a hint but really my food jam is vanilla.

    • Hey Portia, Haig’s looks good. I usually veer towards vanilla fragrances as well. It was the dark growl that made me love this perfume.

  4. I love chocolate, usually 70-80%. We have several very good bean-to-bar chocolate producers in Montreal and I patronize them regularly: Monarch, Avanaa, Qantu. I also love Marou from Vietnam. Love the packaging on those Choba Choba bars! In the US I love Dandelion made in San Francisco. There is also Hogarth in New Zealand that is wonderful when I can get it. And Sirene from Vancouver Island in Canada. So much chocolate, so little time! Strangely I did not like Bond-T, it was too dirty I think. I prefer my chocolate with patchouli (BF Ummagumma and SL Borneo).

    • Wow Tara! You have introduced so many new chocolate brands. I will check to see if the store here carries any of them. The colourful designs on the Choba Choba bars are pieces of art. Yup – the first hour or two are quite dirty which is why I was so surprised that I love it. Thanks for the perfume suggestions. I will try to find samples of them.

  5. Love chocolate both to eat and to wear. I’ve got a few choco fragrances, some sweet and velvety and one dry, dusty cocoa. I’ll take it whatever way it comes. 😜 This one sounds very interesting, and I’m very tempted by it. I’d love the perfume equivalent of my favourite flavour – dark, at least 80% with tangy raspberry and chilli. Throw in some arabica and a smidge of patchouli and that would be my ideal.

  6. Hi Sandra, Loved reading your thoughts on Bond-T. As I absolutely love chocolate and some chocolate centred fragrances. Love Tony Choconolly, a Dutch chocolate brand with their weird combinations and Albert Heyn Yuzu chocolate, shops here are now full of chocolate eggs for Easter. You must be in chocolate heaven living in Switzerland 🇨🇭. I am very glad you enjoyed the sample I squeezed out of my decant. Now we both need a bottle 😉 Xx Esperanza
