SOTD 14.10 – 20.10.2019

Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 14.10 – 20.10.2019

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Black Cashmere…. gorgeous stuff.
The Mister is wearing Guerlain Vetiver… equally gorgeous.
And between last night and this morning tested about ten things I got from pl67…. making up for my commando week 🤣🙃😉

  2. Blocki This Grand Affair. I picked up a travel spray at Twisted Lily in San Francisco this summer. Old school oriental, but it doesn’t feel old fashioned to me. Quite nice and good longevity on my skin (lately a lot of fading away by afternoon.)

  3. Creeping in under the wire here to say: Shalimar today.!!! Treated myself to a couple of good squirts from Brigitte’s generous decant of the 60’s vintage. Too beautiful for words.
Big day on Wednesday. I will hear if the current clusterf*ck surrounding the carriage house project is resolved.
Canadian Thanksgiving here today. I postponed it till next weekend. I have a difficult time eating and relaxing when I’m stressed.
Missing you all and hope everyone is well 😘

  4. Wow what a week it has been! I have pretty much got everything I own in my new space to call home. It is all in boxes though!!! If you have seen footage of disaster/ war zones where supplies have been dropped from an aeroplane that is what it looks like!!! Yesterday I went i with a friend to Ballarat ‘s only The Body Shop . I don’t think I have been since early this year . I sprayed myself with White Musk L’Eau . It reminded me of EA Green Tea. And I thought it had ‘disappeared ‘ after about 2 hours. Apparently not because 3 hours later I got a cab and the male driver asked me what scent I was wearing before asking my destination!!! Today Tuesday arvo I am wearing body lotion of Joop All About Eve And now I want to eat apples!

  5. Today I am wearing vintage Christian Dior Eau Sauvage Extreme. It was reformulated in 2010 and I have not smelled latest though curious about it but some reviews say it is totally different, with prominent focus on mint and even some resemblance to eau sauvage parfum.

Recently an auction appeared with 2 vintage eau sauvage extreme bottles and for a good price so went for it to have more backup bottles. I am actually surprised there were not more bids because eau sauvage extreme, even reformulated one, has been appreciating in prices. One reason I think is that Dior does not officially distribute eau sauvage extreme in the US, only in Europe.

    • Me and my big flippin mouth! The power steering on my car went haywire just as I was leaving for work. And my poor daughter whose birthday it is today had to go home from work with the sick belly lurgy🤢😷
      What a pair!

  6. Sample of Nicolai Ambre Cashmere Intense today. I did not try this in store when I was there, not sure why except that amber is quite well represented in my collection. I probably don’t need it but enjoying it today. Maybe after a few decants get thunked….

  7. I’m rocking my ELDO Rien today. I think Wolverine would wear this one. You know that scene where he’s at the bar smoking a cigar, having a drink, looking dangerous and gorgeous at the same time. There’s enough left of my sample to wear another day – love it. So much for shifting out of the spicy, smokey, boozey genre. Although I did fall heavily for Yes I Do.

  8. Rocking ELDO Rien today. I think this is what Wolverine would wear. You know that scene where he’s at the bar, smoking a cigar and drinking. Looking dangerous and gorgeous all at once. So much for stepping out and trying something different- I’m stuck for sure in the spicy, smokey, woody smells. As Rien hangs around really well on me I’ve got plenty of my sample left for another day, maybe two.

  9. Van Cleef & Arpels Ambre Imperial from a mini splash bottle that the SA at Neiman Marcus in San Francisco gave me as I was breezing through the store to find my family down in the men’s department. . I enjoyed the opening but there is something in the woody base that isn’t my cup of tea. Cute little bottle though.

  10. Scherrer One Love today, a very rainy day and I don’t know when we’ll get some of those golden days with colourful leaves and a low sun. Waiting for the used/vintage perfumes I bought. The seller sent the parcel today, so next week I guess I can pick them up at the post office.

I’ve been looking at the Les Senteurs site, and see they can no longer send even samples here. Has anyone of you tried Castana? I’m trying to figure out if there’s anything I absolutely want my sister to buy if she goes to London next month. I was thinking about Equistrius, but cannot see it listed in the relevant online shops. It’s not discontinued, I hope?!

  11. Also, I would like to ask advice about DSH perfumes. Which ones should I try?

I’m thinking of a blind buy of Giverny in Bloom, if I can get a scent mule to take the small bottle across the Atlantic, but was wondering about other perfumes from the same brand, too. Any suggestions? I’m not a big fan of incense or leather notes, but like green, citrus and chypre or woody sccents.

    • Panthere is beautiful. Amazing how so many older mainstream fragrances that were reasonably priced years ago can smell so good. I mean just pretty. Sometimes I find some of the current niche and indie stuff complicated and confusing, if that makes any sense?

    • Is that the Bourgois Soir de Paris? My mother had a teeny bottle of that back in the day. And guess who used to open it and stick her nose to the top of the bottle 😉

      • Yes, it is Bourjois Soir de Paris (Evening in Paris) created by Ernest Beaux. I have the curvy Mae West shaped bottle with the silvery metal screw cap. I think dated 1940-1950’s.
        I love this perfume!
It was d/c’d in 1969 and The new redesigned in 1991 by Jacques Polge and Francois Demachy. Bottle remains blue but squat half moon bottle and tall silver cap.

  13. I’ve been gradually putting away the winter fragrances this week, and starting to get out some spring favourites. (Of course as soon as you do that the overnight temperature drops to below zero). This week I’ve been wearing Terre d’Hermes EDT, Guerlain L’Homme Ideal Cologne, Gucci Homme II and Nicolai New York. Will bust out some more soon.

Tabac Vert, Flos Mortis (reminds me of Carnal Flower), Chypre Siam and 40 Rogue

Tomorrow (or early this morning if I am up again at midnight due to insomnia) I will test Fougere LAube, Mousse Iluminee and Le Canotier.

  16. Clinique Aromatics Elixir, a classic but new to me. And a true chypre, very green floral. I have the modern version, can only imagine how stunning this was in the 70’s and 80s.

  17. Yesterday was insane, I grabbed some Tauer Wowilla oil because my skin felt dry and it smells really good. Today has been calmer, before the storm. Tomorrow morning is my son’s last Junior Varsity home football game and we decided to host the group of linemen at our house afterward for lunch. 13 very large teenage boys. What was I thinking? I have about 5 hours today to prepare before leaving for tonight’s varsity game, and then whatever early morning time I can get in before tomorrow’s game. I wonder how I get myself into these things???

    • Woo Hoo! I used to love going over to friends places after the football, cricket, basketball or swimming. The camaraderie was probably the best of my school time. You’re doing a good thing MMKinPA. The Mums especially would love me, it was fun to chat to them about their sport, theatre, restaurants etc.

AND MPG Ambre Precieux is freaking gorgeous. I have a big decant of it around here somewhere…….

  18. Vintage Miss Dior. You guessed it. Absolutley beautiful. Thanks Cassie!
I finally got the city building inspectors out of my hair. What a bunch of beaurocratic dolts. They delayed work on the carriage house reno due to their own incompetence. And expected their apology to make it all better 🤯. A**holes!
On to fun. Our delayed Thanksgiving feast is happening this weekend. Yesss!
