   I really enjoy Rose scents, and my favorite -by far- (and one of my favorite scents in general) is Rose Poivree by The Different Company. It’s perfect.

   Another Rose scent I enjoy (although it is veeeery mild) is Filoli Rose by A Wing & A Prayer Perfumes (find them on Etsy.) I’ve only tried their oil, and I like to put it on my pillow and/or chest when I go to bed.

   As for desserts, I like chocolate (+good quality) in any form (solid, ice cream, pastry, etc.)

   Aaaand now I’m hungry.

     I love roses and pepper together so I’m sure I would love Rose Poivre too! Thanks for that tip. A couple of years ago my mother put together a scent (just for fun) using pink pepper, bulgarian rose, a light patchouli and a few other things. It is really quite lovely.

     And chocolate? I crave the dark stuff.

     • Hey there, just wanted to let you know I received the perfumes. They came in just fine. We had a blast trying them on and sniffing them all day. Voodoo Love was very nice but the winner really was Oriental Rose. It’s such a lovely perfume. Thanks again!

2. Great piece of history with Marguerite Caro. Was she the first in the modern world or the first in US of A? I think there is a character based on her in a book that I read earlier this year.
   As my underwear band says DNEM.

     I think Marguerite Caro was simply the first woman perfumer in the Bourbon French Company. I doubt she was the first in the modern world but maybe could have been one of the earlier woman perfumers in the US.

4. I follow by email. Liasions Dangereous By Kilian is my favorite rose. I just had a chocolate creme brûlée that was so wonderful I can hardly describe it. Burnt sugar, the best chocolate pudding ever, and fresh raspberries. Omg.

6. Funnily enough, Rose Poivre is also one of my favorite rose perfumes as well! My second favorite is Stella, though it has been too cold to wear that for a little while. That said, I am always looking for a new take on rose! I have many favorite desserts as well, but I especially love apple crisp right now 🙂 I follow by email.

8. I really like the sound of this one! I still haven’t found the perfect rose fragrance, but I love walking up my street and smelling all the different varieties in people’s gardens! I like Lipstick Rose. As for desserts, where do I start? Ricotta cannoli, lemon and passionfruit tarts, sticky date pudding…

9. I follow by email, and I grew up in Louisiana and have been in and out of New Orleans all my life. Would love to smell a Rose from there! Right now my favorite rose is the unattainable Mohur Extrait, one of the loveliest things I have ever smelled. No doubt, due to price, it will remain unattainable after release, but oh well, at least I got to smell it!

     • I think the best way I can describe it is that it is deeper, richer, more spiced, and less austere than Mohur, while retaining all the elegance. Or I could just describe it as: Purrr!

    My favourite rose scent at the moment is Flowerbomb Rose Explosion. I just love it. Am on to my second bottle!
    Other rose scents I have/had include Lipstick Rose, Lyric and La Fille de Berlin.

12. I still love Montale Black Aoud for my dark, sexy rose and The Different Company Hippie Rose for fun. Both make me feel good. I will have to go for Hungarian kiflis, cookies. They are not like those you see online – these are from a recipe from about 1900 or earlier. I had to beg and barter to get it. I follow by email.

14. Hi Azar! I have been to Bourbon French Perfumes twice so no need to enter me in the draw. I haven’t tried this rose scent but do have a few of their others which I enjoy. I’m happy to see them getting some love here in blogland.

      Which of the other Bourbon French perfumes do you like the best?

      I think this company makes quality fragrances that are at once handmade, unpretentious and “traditional”. I believe that this makes Bourbon French really unusual these days and certainly worth trying. Hype has been replaced with history. It’s refreshing and certainly not the norm.

16. My favourite rose is going to be the new Vero Profumo’s. Until then I love Tauer’s roses, and NVC’s Mohur Extrait is extremely lovely. Fave dessert is a homemade booze laden trifle.

17. I ordered a sample of Iroaz after reading about it here, so I hop beignets and coffee, and the whole voodoo vibe. Just wish I’d known about the perfumery! I follow by email.e I get to smell the roses!

      • I have to find dairy-free chocolate items – try Coop`s fudge in a jar!! It really IS tough to not have the spoon that you stand up in the fudge to NOT go directly to your mouth! 🙂 🙂 I like to just sprinkle cocoa on my waffles – w/ a bit of honey 🙂

I’m also a big fan of Bourbon French perfumes and have purchases several scents over the years, starting with a visit in late 2009, while I was on my honeymoon. I’ve just recently heard about oriental Rose and am anxious to try it – it sounds lovely. Laissez le bon temps rouler!

    I was in New Orleans once (for 2 days). It was the middle of August so I got the full experience of the heat and humidity. I have never made it back in more temperate weather.

25. With regard to rose perfumes, I like Iroaz, and also Rosine’s Rose d’Ete is great, too. I love dark chocolate (Hachez and Pralus chocolate bars among others), and a favorite pastry treat is a confection made at a local French bakery/cafe. It consists of two eclair type shells filled with a light coffee flavored pastry creme. I follow via RSS

    I never liked rose fragrances until I tried Frederic Malle’s Portrait of A Lady. Then Amouage Lyric followed. Along with Le Labo Rose 31 and Serge Lutens Rose de Nuit. Funny how you think you dislike a certain note and then one fragrance opens up a whole new world of scent for you.

    It has been years since I have been to New Orleans but, I love how you can just walk around the French Quarter (and surrounding areas) and everyone seems so friendly. Next time I am back I will definitely look for this shop.
    My favorite rose scent is probably Oud Ispahan by Dior – a very nice rose oud combo. And Portrait of a Lady (which is very similar) ranks up there as well – I like my roses dark 🙂

Have you tried many rose scents in traditional pure oil formats (roses in sandalwood, with amber and/or musk, ambergris, oud etc.) ? Some of my favorite roses live in classic attars and mukhallats.

30. Hi, Azar. Will you be writing a review of Voodoo Love later? The only descriptor I could find on the Bourbon French site was “earthy,” and now I’m really curious as to what Marie Laveau’s love potion smells like.

    The first rose scent I tried that didn’t smell soapy or sour on me was Trish McAvoy’s Black Rose Oud, although I prefer Montale’s Aoud Damascus. A Wing and a Prayer’s Tea Rose is also nice, and I will have to try layering it, maybe with Yves Rocher’s Vanille Noire, to see if I can get something that smells the way Tocade does to other people.       It would be fun to write a review of Voodoo Love. I imagine the earthy quality mentioned on the Bourbon French site has something to do with Kus grass (vetiver) and orris root. They are still making a fragrance called Kus Kus, one of the first scents originally created in the mid 1800s by the original owner of the business. To my nose Voodoo Love has some elements of this Kus Kus perfume. It is powdery, sweet and green at the same time. Oh dear, I’m talking to much! Laurels, you are IN!

I’m following via wordpress and to be honest i haven’t used any rose perfumes,but i grow roses at home and if it smells anything like the whiff of roses in the morning i’m in:) favorite desserts, anything to do with cheesecake, nutella with fresh strawberries, chocolate brownies with vanilla ice cream and macaroons with fruit tarts:) was that too much:P

      To be honest I don’t think any perfume can match the smell of fresh roses in the garden in the morning. Oriental Rose is not as green as a morning rose garden. I’d describe it as breeze through a sultry and humid afternoon garden (near a kitchen window where someone is baking). The closest “copy” of a morning rose garden, in my experience, is an attar of real persian roses in a very light, green sandalwood. And your dessert list is NOT too long. Thank you for the goodies.

    I have a bit of an aversion to rose notes in perfume – I don’t know if it’s because I associate them so much with food and prayer meetings – but am trying to get over it. I feel like I’m missing out! I do like Rive Gauche, does that count?
