Onda Extrait by Vero Kern for Vero Profumo 2007
Onda, Stilletos and One Year On.

Fragrantica gives these featured accords in one line:
Vetiver, ginger, mace, coriander
From Vero Profumo site:
“Ambrosial whisperings, sweet nothings, tender and potent – and deeply moving.”
It is just about a year to the day that I received my bottle of Onda Extrait.
There has been much written about Vero Kern’s Onda masterpiece. Like it or hate it, it will leave you reeling. And it delights me. It took time to understand it, it wasn´t love at first try, Slowly it wrapped its coils around me. Now I long for it.

Onda permeates my thoughts. I listen to music and feel Onda. I read and feel Onda. When I met Vero Kern she was wearing Onda. If I had not know that it, I would have wondered if she was wearing anything at all. It was a part of her. Vero Kern says “I´m not interested in “clean” scents. I need characterful scents both in my creations but also as a wearer. Besides this, I love everything that reminds of the smell of skin.” Onda Extrait in that case is a breathtaking success.
Onda is very erotic, very sensual, but furthermore it is calming.

Like wearing black patent stilettos, Onda is for when the time it right. It might not be often but it is critical to own both.
Onda is much more than a perfume, indeed it is art. It is a part of the current exhibition “Nirvana, Strange Forms of Pleasure” at the MUDAC (musée de design et d’arts appliqués contemporains) in Lausanne, Switzerland, which runs from the end of October 2014 until the end of April 2015.

A year on I say thank you to Vero Kern. Her creations complete me.
What about you? Do you love Vero’s work? Have you tried them? If so, what was your favourite?

Wow, Val. This isn’t a review, it’s an ode. An ode to Onda.
I need to experience this. I just hope I’m woman enough.

One drop to start. Overdose is deadly. When seen as art it will change your perception of what a perfume can be. 🙂 xxx

Wow…it is an ode indeed! I think this may well have been the version I tried in Harrods and liked, whereas the edp was too grown up / ‘fierce’ for me. Your paean has prompted me to give it a sniff next time I am passing. Love the C S Lewis quote, btw. 😉

The EdP is so very different. As I have mentioned before, I once sprayed it like an EdT and nearly killed myself. The Extrait however is like a magic potion. Yes. C. S. Lewis.
One of the greats. xxx

Val, Simply gorgeous! There isn’t one of Vero’s that I don’t like or own. I choose different ones and concentrations based on the day, weather or mood. Her work is an art form! Mary

Val, I really really really enjoyed your review! I have noticed that lately few reviews hold my interest. Almost everyone talks of “rides”, “jammy roses”, “juice”, etc. I have done it too. I just want to know if the perfume is beautiful or pretty or boring or synthetic or awful and how it makes you feel. That helps me decide if and where it goes on my list – that list that never seems to get much shorter. 🙂

Hello M. Thanks a lot. 😉 One way or the other, Onda will move you. Ha! Jammy roses and Onda in the same sentence? Said no one, ever. xxxxxx

My fave. I don’t wear stilettos but I love the salty-honey aura it envelopes me in. Full-blown sexual, in any concentration, love it

Roger – how fab to see you. I LOVE Onda on a bloke. It is rather on the naughty side, but then again very peaceful too. Yeah – what can one say? Please drop by again! Bussi CQ

Dear Val,
as you know I was at Pitti but I wasn’t smart enough to get to sniff and try everything I could.. and Onda Extrait by Vero Kern is one of the many I should have tried, and your review confirms that. It looks like a stunning scent with a huge personality, one of those you either like or not but that doesn’t leave you indifferent. I’ve always thought skin-like scents would contain huge doses of musk and maybe milky notes for some reason, but I am intrigued by what it looks like a spicy and woody take on the subject (warm skin maybe?). Lovely stiletto’s btw 🙂

Hi Darkrose! Nice to see you. NO musk or milky notes. It is dark and licoricey and spicy, but spice in a way you have probably never seen. It dries down to a hardcore honey, which when smelt on another is amazing. It is not a perfume to glue your own nose too, nor to analyze. I dunno if that makes sense. It´s a trip! Hugs. Val xxxx

I love Onda too. Someday I will have more than just a sample.
If I wore those shoes I’d need medical attention.

If you think those are high, you s should see what my daughter totters around in. A sample of Onda goes along way. xxx

Hi Val,
I love this review. I have to ask which Vero Profumo is your favorite and in what concentration?
Please advise! BTW I have to say that those sleek and stylin’ shoes are gorgeous and could also serve as weapons – if necessary. Like Poodle, I probably couldn’t wear them for more than 5 minutes without doing some serious injury to my feet or some other body part.

Hi Azar! Regarding the shoes. They are to as high as they look. They are an important part of my wardrobe though. Because I live in jeans. I really do. If I need to go to something more upmarket, or am invited somewhere with, well you know, the need to be a bit more presentable, I still wear jeans, albeit black ones. Then I add the shoes. Instantly dressed up. Perfect. i still feel like me without having to resort to a – dress!!
I love all the Veros. It is a tough question which can´t really be answered. If forced though I would have to pick two, Kiki Extrait and all 3 of the Rozys. (well, that is kind of two) But the thought of being without any of them ……
PS I always have my flip-flops in my handbag.

I have a tiny little sample of Kiki, will order more Rozy samples and try all of them together and compare. Thanks Val. About the shoes…There are all kinds of spiky heels and crazy platforms in my “shoe museum”. I keep adding more but honestly can’t wear any of them even though I try. I pull them out occasionally just to admire them but the only shoes that work are the clogs. There is really no way to dress up a clog. Despite paint, glitter, patent, fabric, little cut outs, shearling…they are all still just clunky clogs, but my feet are happier for them.

This sounds intriguing! I haven’t yet tried any of her perfumes. Would this be a good one to start with or is it too different?

Hi there Kandice. No, this would probably not be the one to start off with. But what do I know? Just my opinion. I hope you get a chance to try some though. I cannot come up with a single thing that these come even close to. Maybe you ´ll let me know if you do! Bussi Val xxxx

Keep Calm And Wear Onda!!! Love it. Yeah Vero is the Queen of perfume. And sometimes a range just clicks. There is nothing else like her work. It is incredibly beautiful and very sensual. I think the Rozy EDP would be a good starter for those that haven’t tried any of her work. I have tried Onda in EDP and love it and I want it but haven’t tried the Voile or the parfum. Maybe I should ….

Hello Megan! Nice to se you. I love Vero Profumo. I loved the line before I got to meet Vero Kern. Most other fragrances seem flat to me after these. The Onda EdP is really quite different to the Voile and the Extrait. I one oversrpayed the EdP in the middle of summer and it kind of put me off. I am ready to try again and have a sample waiting for me! The Extrait related, but as a cousin. 🙂 I would surely recommend trying it. Do you love the Rozy EdP? Oh I surely do. Hugs. Val xxxxx
