DIOR: Fève Délicieuse + Cuir Cannage + Oud Ispahan

Hi there Perfume Junkies.

The other day Ainslie Walker trotted into DIOR flagship store in Sydney, while there and chatting to our fave DIOR SA Jolanta they started talking about APJ and Jolanta asked where I’d been hiding. So between them they cooked up an idea to get me the newest DIOR releases in their fabulous miniature bottles, which are scale to the real deal. I think they hold 5 or 8ml which is heaps for becoming addicted to their delicious juices. When I went to see Jolanta myself a couple of heavy duty DIOR shoppers came in so we didn’t really get to say more than Hello & Goodbye but I’m going to go in very early one day and have a natter.

DIOR Privée

Francois Demachy has created these beauties for the Privée range. Though not astoundingly new or highly envelope-pushingly-original what I love about the DIOR Privée range is their cool and classic classiness, beautifully blended and nuanced fragrances that fit into my life seamlessly. Sometimes I wish I was a one frag kinda guy so I could purchase an enormous DIOR Privée bottle and drain it to the dregs. I have a fewof the smaller bottles and now that Granville is discontinued I really want to grab some of that too.

Oud Ispahan Dior FragranticaPhoto Stolen Fragrantica

DIOR: Oud Ispahan

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Labdanum
Heart: Patchouli
Base: Sandalwood, rose, agarwood (oud)

Oud Ispahan is a slightly boozy sweet floral leather. A toffee coated leather opening that blooms beautifully into a brand new, extremely luxe handbag smell drenched in roses and a light dusting of oud. It feels like a very posh version of a 1980s fragrance marketed to men. Totally wearable and yummy. I have a bottle of Oud Ispahan bought in Paris, every time I wear it I am transported back to Winter Paris.

Cuir Cannage Christian Dior FragranticaPhoto Stolen Fragrantica

DIOR: Cuir Cannage

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Orange blossom, ylang ylang
Heart: Leather, jasmine, rose, iris
Base: Birch, juniper, leather

Cuir Cannage is leather, sweet leather. A gorgeous creamy leather that pays as much homage to flowers as it does to the treated skins of dead animals. The iris, ylang, white flowers create a sumptuous bouquet that is brilliantly offset by the dry rasp of leather and birch and the sharpness of the juniper. This softly, softly leather approach is quite prevalent in modern perfumery and I like it very much. If I owned a bottle of Cuir Cannage I think it would see a lot of skin time.

Fève Délicieuse Christian Dior FragranticaPhoto Stolen Fragrantica

DIOR: Fève Délicieuse

Fragrantica gives these featured accords in one line:
Venezuelan tonka bean, vanilla, caramel, cocoa, pralines, woody accords

If DIOR were trying to out-Guerlain Guerlain then Fève Délicieuse is what I would dream they could accomplish. I’m talking about Old School Guerlain, where you could smell a beautiful growling beastie hiding beneath the sweet bakery. Here we have all the sweetness of modern gourmand tempered by tonka and woods, which serve to create a lovely baseline that hints heavily at animal. I’m surprised honey isn’t one of the featured notes. This is exactly how I would like to smell.

  1. Dioressence is my favourite Dior. I dismissed Cuir Cannage at first as being a tad dull, but it’s growing on me as my sample diminishes. It’s very smooth and relaxing to wear. I follow on email.

  2. Hey there Portia. I am torn between two classics in the Dior masculine line up. I often state I was born into the world of Fahrenheit because my father wore it when I was born and I have fond childhood memories of that scent. However more recently, the day I discovered Eau Sauvage I had personally met Chandler Burr – so there is a sweet memory there. I’d love to try these as they are IMPOSSIBLE to smell in Melbourne.

Haha “out-Guerlain Guerlain” love it!! I’m dying to try Feves, and now the Cuir too, not something i’d normally be attracted to but when you say sweet and creamy- I’m there!
So many lovely Dior’s….but I think I’d have to say vintage Dune is a winner for me. Warm, sultry, different and reminds me of an awesome time in my life with crazy memories 🙂

  4. Diorama was my wedding scent a long time ago. Later I worked with a lovely man who wore ‘Oh! Savage!’ I wanted it! Miss Dior from the 1980’s, which I guess makes her vintage. Back then MD was one of my grown up, serious scents in the office. I follow you via email.

  5. I’ll go with Dune, so radical at its release for being more ocean than boudoir. But I’d like to get hold of the older vintage Diors. I follow by email. 🙂

    • I’m the same. I can’t wear Hypnotic Poison EDT, but love Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle, which was also conveniently discontinued *shakes fist*

  6. I don’t actually have a favourite Dior. I just haven’t sampled much of their stuff – weird, I know. I’ve spent some time with some, enjoyed a few… but nothing really loyalty inspiring? I hear many good things about Oud Isaphan, though, so it’s on my hitlist.

  9. Midnight Poison is my all time favourite from the Poison range. So far I have 3 bottles I’ve been hoarding since the discontinuation of it. Why, Dior, why?! 😥
What an amazing prize I must say… I follow by email.

  10. Hi Portia,
What a wonderful give-away! I follow by e-mail and bloglovin. I have not tried many of the newer Dior fragrances. I am stuck in the past and still trying to use up my various vintages (1998 through 2011) of my favorite Dior – Hypnotic Poison.

  11. My old favorite was vintage (60’s) Diorama, oozing respect and danger, later replaced by 80’s Poison, the bomb. You only needed two sprays. I follow by e-mail. So want to sample these three. Thanks for the chance.

  12. Holy smokes – what a giveaway! You know, it’s really unfortunate but I don’t think I’ve tried ANY Dior fragrances yet. Not even one. These all look really interesting. I’m not typically a huge fan of gourmandy scents, but Fève Délicieuse looks amazing (as do the others, but I’m more surprised by my on-paper attraction to Fève Délicieuse). Thanks for the mini reviews and the draw!

  13. I LOVE manufacturers samples! Diorissimo – the others are fab but Diorissimo is the one and only Dior fragrance that makes my heart skip a beat. Email.

  14. What fun is this post and this giveaway! My favorite Dior (but maybe the only Dior I’ve even tried??) IS Oud Ispahan. I feel like it’s pretty much “me.” The rose and the patch and the sandalwood–that’s me right there. I’d kind of do anything to try Fève Délicieuse, as that sounds like it could also be me! I follow by email.

  15. This is kind of embarassing to admit, but I have tried very few perfumes from Dior! And many of them were so close to the beginning of my perfume adventure that I don’t really trust my memories of them anyway. My favorite of the few I have tried so far is Eau Sauvage (I think the EDT?), but really I have been quite neglectful. I follow by email, and thank you!

I’m open to trying more!! 🙂 I love Mitzah from this line (sadly discontinued) and as for Dior in general I love old-school Poison, which I don’t wear around people, but often wear at home to bed. 🙂

  23. Fave Diors are the vintage versions of Diorama and Eau Sauvage–haven’t as yet had the opportunity to try any of the Privees. I’m all stocked up on Diorama’s orange peel leathery chypre goodness, thanks to ebay. Have yet to find a good vintage bottle of Sauvage. I follow by email–thanks for the draw.

I am on my second small sample of Grand Bal and think I would already have bought a bottle had it been available locally. Would especially love to try the Fève Délicieuse. I follow via e-mail.

  35. Happily following by email. Favourite Dior is Diorella from when I first encountered it in the late 70s through to the 90s formulations. Follwed by Diorissimo, Dioressence and Miss Dior.
As for more recent releases, Dior Addict was a rare scrubber, but the Escale a Portofino I blind bought last year has been getting a lot of wear.
Thanks so much for the generous draw opportunity.

  38. If I’m not too late, I’d like to enter. I love Diorissimo, especially vintage. I was just speaking my (very broken) Italian to some guests at a party whose English was similarly broken – they were admiring my flowers, and I wanted to show them the corner where the lilies of the valley grow. I didn’t know the name in Italian, so I said “Diorissimo” and their faces lit up and as one they cried out Muguetto! So I learned a new word. Ah, perfume brings us together.

My favorite Dior by far is Eau Noire – discovered it by chance, but it was love at first sniff ❤ I like most of the other exclusives as well, but none has so far proven FB worthy. Other Dior favorites are Tendre Poison (alas, discontinued) and Hypnotic poison (in the Elixir version).

  41. What a great giveaway! I would love to win any of these let alone all three. My favourite Dior for nostalgia’s sake is Tendre Poison because I associate it with my mother. But my favourite as of now is Mitzah (which I imagine will be a short-lived monogamous relationship once my decant runs out – tragedy of discontinuation!)
