Well Hello Vintage Vamps,
Today Scott and I finally open a fragrance that has been in my collection for years. It has winked at me from the recesses of the perfume cupboard and sometimes i grabbed it out only to put it back away. I know, I’m a crazy frag hoarder.
Calandre by Paco Rabanne 1969
Calandre by Michel Hy
Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Leaf green, Aldehydes, Bergamot
Heart: Rose, Lily-of-the-valley, Geranium, Jasmine, Iris
Base: Sandalwood, Vetiver, Oakmoss, Musk, Ambergris
When we were teenagers, my sister had Calandre. I loved it but because it was HER scent I wasn’t allowed anywhere near it. But my black little heart still lusted after it…and now I have my own bottle of the vintage Edt. I have graciously made her a decant.

Ha Ha Ha! JackieB,
That is such a perfumista story. Only we get it and it had me smiling.

Hi gorgeous.
Love the video sniff, love how un-PC (“…s*^t version…”) you are and love the opening ceremony. I did worry about the yellowing on the box and I’m glad things worked out.
I have heard Calandre being mentioned when sniffing Agent Provocateur and I am curious of your opinion on these two.
Looking forward to your return.

I AM jealous! In the day I wore PR’s Metal (you should really try that one) so felt I didn’t need Calandre (silly me). So I came to Calandre late in life and only after lovely Victoria at Bois de Jasmin told me that it might be a bit similar to a long lost love, Nicky Verfaille’s Grain de Sable. Well, indeed it is. But of course almost as extinct now as the Grain de Sable.
I like being called a Vintage Vamp!

Oh, I AM jealous! I can understand your enthusiasm about it because I think I remember how it felt. I used to have a bottle of Eau de Calandre in the eighties. It was an amazing green scent, a true chypre, a gem you can’t possibly produce nowadays and I am sooooo sad because of that…

I wore this in high school. I loved it and got many compliments on it. It was one of my more subdued fragrances back then. If I knew then what I know now I would have hoarded away bottles of it along with many others.

OMG Poodle,
I would have bought EVERYTHING and kept it mint. Imagine how much you could sell some of this stuff for now

I am so freakin’ jealous dammit! I have the “shit” version, but I used to wear the real deal, and Metal as well. I was a flight attendant way back when, and the metal note in particular seemed to compliment eau de 747 (before the passengers got on and started smoking, peeing, shitting, barfing, drinking our burnt coffee and free drinks, eating our “meals” and then proceeding to splatter a melange of the former all over us).

Hey Holly,
The shit version is still pretty good in comparison to much of the newly released dross.

HiPortia,
Sorry I’m late to this party as I was wondering around in the snow with the middle school prodigy orchestra.
Loved this video sniff! About Calandre: I still have about one third of a bottle of the bath oil left over from the 70s. Great stuff. I’m off to dig it out and give it a whiff! Wish I had more of it, especially the parfum! LUCKY Portia!
