Replacing the discontinued – Body Shop Nutriganics Softening Cleansing Gel – Part 2
Hello loves.

My search for my long lost Body Shop cleansing gel has been long but I hope, fruitful. As well as targeting products texturally similar to the gel, I tried a couple of liquid oil cleansers, hopeful that despite the texture difference at the start, the overall cleansing would still be good.

Replacing Discontinued Beauty #2

Mango Seed, Body Shop + Clinique

Mango Seed Oil to Foam

The first is a Korean product in a range called Mango Seed product called Oil to Foam. This is a nicely light oil and I anticipated it work by doing the oily thing to clean off the make up and then turn foamy with water. Unfortunately, the oil texture is not long lasting enough for me to properly remove heavier make up. Almost immediately as being dispensed it turns to a foamy soapy texture and then cleans like a regular foam. Positively, it smells lovely, very light and citrusy. I would use this as a second cleanser – I know, extravagant! But sometimes I feel like the first cleanse didn’t capture everything, this would be a good round two.

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil

The second is from Clinique from their Take The Day Off range. I have heard nothing but good things about their Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm – but I had been at Clinique getting the contour stick (that I wrote about a few weeks back) and the SA had used the Take The Day Off Cleansing Oil to clean my face and it felt good, so I thought I’d give the oil a go at home.

So the big negative of this product for me is the smell – of lack of it. As all Clinique products, it is entirely unperfumed. This could be great for anyone sensitive to fragrance – but I’m guessing that’s not this crowd. Unscented in this case means that the product smells of what’s it’s made of – so it smells a bit chemically. Not overpowering but noticeable. But really, that is my only criticism. I really didn’t want to like this product as much as I do but the texture is beautiful – very light and smooth. It dissolves makeup in an instant, turns milky on water and washes away to leave clean skin, lovely. I admit, this one is my favourite and is my default for when I need an easy simple clean.

So, having tested four products as replacements for my Body Shop gel, I think the Clinque has been my favourite in texture, the Korean Mango Seed, my favourite in smell and probably all but the Mango Seed have done excellent work at removing make up. All that said, you could probably try Baby Oil to dissolve makeup, but for me, the milkiness on contact with water ensures I’m not left feeling oily on my skin and potentially clogging pores – and that’s important.

What other products like this have you tried? What oil based cleansers would you recommend?
Ciao ciao, AF x

  1. Heya AF Beauty,
Scott just gave me a L’Occitane SHEA CLEANSING OILand I’m loving it.

  2. I’m a fan of the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil. I do want to try the Clinique one if for no other reason than to be able to buy it when they run their gift with purchase promotions so I can try other things as well. I haven’t bought the DHC one in a while and I’ve been struggling to find something that removes my makeup quickly and efficiently. I guess I’ll try the clinique one next. I do like a few of their products even though there’s no scent. I’m like you; I like some fragrance in my beauty routine but I’ll overlook that if the product works well.

  3. I have to admit that the Clinique cleansing oil is one of my favorites too. I love perfume but really prefer not to have any in face/body products with the exception of body wash. I’m surprised at how many Clinique products find their way into my routine. The Mild Facial Lotion is my everyday toner and the moisturizing spray gets a lot of use as well. Not very glam but they work, are relatively inexpensive, and are easy to find.

  4. Try The Face Shop Water Bright Cleansing Light Oil. At Amazon $8.50 US. Slippery to work with, but does take it all off
And leaves no residue, just nice soft skin. Korean. Rinse well, of course.

  5. Please please please do not use baby oil to remove makeup! It is almost full of mineral oil and is not a cleansing product, hence it may remove some makeup but not thoroughly and more importantly, the mineral oil will sit on top of your skin and hinder effective absorbance of other products used thereafter such as serums etc.
Clinique TTDO balm is really great for removing makeup, SPF for a first cleanse and then a second cleanse I like a product that does a bit more for my skin like another cleansing balm with natural oils or a gel/cream cleanser with great ingredients. For second cleanse I like REN no.1 purity cleansing balm(all skin types), Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip (for oily/combination skin), Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser (oily/comb), Eve Lom cleansing balm, Omorovicza cleansing balm, Antipodes cleansing butter.
For first cleanse I also like Body shop Camomile Cleansing butter or Oil. I always use a Muslin cloth or a plain face cloth that I wet in hot water and wring to remove the product off my face after I’ve massaged/washed it/emulsified it, I personally feel it cleans my face much better.
Yes a cleanser/skincare addict too as much as I love fragrances ?
May I also recommend one of my fav skincare bloggers ‘Caroline Hirons’ .. Just do a quick Google search. She has a wealth of knowledge of you want to check her out. She is also quite charming.
Korean skincare is amazing too! I always stock up on their face sheet masks from eBay, I get all my Korean skincare from eBay too.
Banila co. Zero purity cleansing balm
Is a great cheapie $11 on eBay. It has mineral oil in the ingredients but I use it as first cleanse to remove makeup and I quickly follow with a natural oils second cleanser to counteract. The face shop rice cleansing oil is a another good cheap Korean one.
Mecca cosmetica in Aus have really great cleansers if fellow Aussie are curious to check out what they have. The Bourke st Myer mecca in Melbourne has a particularly knowledgable lady ‘Centaine’ there if you need guidance.

Wow, I’m afraid I have written an essay lol, my apologies.
