Hello Independent Fragrance Lovers,
OK, so I’m not sure exactly where my set of Dusita samples came from. I do know they were carded originally and that someone not from their company gave them to me. I bet heaps of you are dying to try the newest one and here’s your chance.

There has been a LOT of talk over the scentbloggosphere about Le Sillage Blanc, I’ll summarise by noting that the house has said they were inspired by Piguet Bandit. People are adding that it is also a kissing cousin of the Aromatics Elixir, Aramis and Cabochard triumvirate. Good, these are all fragrances I love so it will be interesting to see what a 21st century incarnation may smell like.

The opening is sharp and noxious, like weed poison. It’s so queer I’m immediately captivated and can’t stop smelling my freaky armed self. The greenness is of broken green leaves and slightly off vase water. Le Sillage Blanc’s got a not quite rightness about it that feels like it’s about to drop over the edge into unwearable but it skates nimbly around the edge. It’s on a knife edge whether it’s going to work or fail.
It takes minutes to skate safely into the realms of the beautiful, artisanal style of independent fragrance. Not for the faint hearted or those that have never ventured beyond the safety of the department store. Even against its kissing cousins Le Sillage Blanc is a tough mother. After the super spiky green opening it becomes dry, parched, as if quite suddenly I find myself in the Australian outback riding a camel under the burning sun and surrounded by red dirt with occasional shade created by a scraggly gum or rock ledge.

And dry it stays, dry and bitter like long lost regret and heartache. Only smoothing out slowly and becoming more comfortable as it melds with my skin scent and becomes ever so slightly human.

I dislike most chypres that are oakmoss forward. With that said, I have a number of chypres that I call “chypre haters chypres” that I do like and wear. Oakmoss is a tough note. The other notes in this scent sound amazing.

I like chypres, Aromatics Is one in my favourite list. But your colourful description of this scent leaves one somewhat mystified. If it is edgy as in like or don’t like, it sounds like it has character of its own. (Follow via email and WP and FB)

I follow by email. I like some chypres, not all. Aromatic Elixir is one that I do like. I think it depends upon many factors.

Count me in as another lover of Aromatics Elixir. You might not think that its very herbal opening would lead to gorgeous roses and then that patchouli and oakmoss base. Aramis on a man makes me swoon.
I never found some of the heavier chypres like Paloma Picasso, Niki de Saint Phalle and Knowing as wearable.
One that I came late to is Estee Lauder Private Collection.
I can’t quite bring myself to consider the modern “chypres” as anything other than patchouli scents.

Portia, you make it sound quite frightening, but I loved it from the first sniff. I do enjoy chypres, but not all of them. My favourites are Oriza”s Chypre Mousse and the much lighter L”Ombre dans l”Eau – and Le Sillage Blanc! I follow by email.

I love chypres and that’s the reason I’m such a huge fan of vintage scents – Giorgio Armani, Jil Sander III, Ted Lapidus Vu, JL Scherrer…and the modern chypre Christopher Street. I just love the dry, woody, green feel. It’s so bold, feminine and elegant.
I’d love to try Le Sillage Blanc.

I like a lot of perfumes with green notes and love the depth oakmoss gives. A kind parfumista has just bought JL Scherrer One Love for me, and I really hope it gets here in good condition!I like mostly green chypres, those used to be called modern chypre back in the early 80s when I first visited France. Some of those scents being called modern chypre these days are very different from the classics, so I’m left confused.
I’m unsure if I would like Le Sillage Blanc, but would love to try it. Leather note and the mention of vase water sort of scares me, but galbanum and oakmoss are favourite notes of mine.I follow via email.

Of course, I love chypre. My top 5 favorite perfumes come from diverse perfume categories and strangely none of them is from chypre category but I have often said s an individual perfume style, my most favorite category is chypre floral as I fall in love with most of them. I love my catherine deneuve, paloma picasso, animale for her, rabanne la nuit, ungaro diva among many others. I think when I used to think of perfumes as a child (long before I got into this hobby), I probably used to imagine chypre floral perfumes as to how a classic French perfume should smell like. I actually have come to the realization only last year or so that chyre floral appeals to me the most on average even though I have had chypre floral perfumes for years now. It is probably because I am getting a better hang of different perfume styles.

Sounds fascinating and a little bit terrifying. Chypres… had to actually look up exactly what that was! I do like the Chanel ones, especially 19, but sometimes find them a bit too powdery. Follow by email.

When I hear of Chypre, my blood pressure rises as Oakmoss is my top loved note in perfumery. I enjoy wearing Chanel Antaeus, Guerlain Derby, Guerlain Coriolan, Aramis Aramis, Chanel Pour Monsieur, Drakkar Noir, Monsieur de Givenchy, and JoAnne Bassett Intimacy are few that have Oakmoss as a dominant note.
I am very thankful to Pissara for gifting me a discovery set & stunned of the smell of all the six samples and now are on my want list. So at the moment, I requested Pissara to reserve 2 bottles of Le Sillage Blanc. hahahaha.

My very favourite chypre fragrance is a fruity chypre. Mitsouko by Guerlain is the most beautiful fragrance. It lasts on me all day and I absolutely love it from start to finish.
