Hi APJ,

I see these SOTD (Scent Of The Day) threads all the time on Facebook and they are really good conversation generators.

SOTD 19 February – 25 February 2018

The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Over 100 responses I will draw a Scent Sample Pack (from my collection)
This week:

  1. Annick Goutal Sables
  2. Vintage Fendi original
  3. Vintage Caron Infini PdT
  4. Tom Ford Ombre de Hyacinth
  5. Creed Iris Tubereuse

Comment purposefully on yours or anothers comment & you’ll have a chance, random.org will draw on Sunday.

Last Weeks WINNER: NEVA

  1. Decided to test Dassein Autumn before the weather warms up tomorrow. This is a cinnamon bomb on my skin! Haven’t tried any others yet from this line…the bottles really intrigue me.

  2. Miss Dior for me today. Had myself a busy perfume Sunday. I did a bit of sorting and separating. And decanted some vintage lovelies for my friends who I was meeting for dinner. They were a big hit and generated some great conversation.

  3. Work today…a mist of Citron Boboli by Le Jardin Retrouve all over my top. Very subtle and wish it lasted longer.
Epic Woman body lotion is SOTB.

  4. Cold wintery day in Colorado. I am wearing Papillon Salome for comfort and warmth.
Most people don’t understand my obsessive love of the fragrance world. Thank goodness I have one close friend who does and we love gifting samples to each other and sharing new discoveries. And my husband is very tolerant!

  5. Bulgari Eau parfumé au thé rouge today for thé office and now Guerlain AA Pamplelune to get me started on some household chores. The Bulgari smells like roiboos tea, lightly spicy.

  6. I’ll be wearing vintage Givenchy III today. I just love vintage chypres, the brighter and soapier the better. If anybody knows of some good recent ones I’d appreciate some tips.

    • Aliage, Y, Ivoire and no 19 are the ones that come to mind. They have all been compared to Givenchy III. But I don’t know anything about current formulations. Also, AG Heure Exquise is beautiful as well…somewhat similar to no 19.

      • I have Aliage, Y and No. 19. Ivoire was beautiful, but not the current formulation. I will check out Heure Exquise, thanks for the tip.
And today I’m wearing vintage No. 5 parfum.

  7. L’Artisan Mure et Musc for me today. Berry musky – ha ha
Finished off my sample of Atelier Vanille Insensee last night – its really lovely straight up but very soft and does not last long at all on me. Rajkumari is the current standout from my Evocative sample set – jasmine, rose, patchouli and incense – worthy of another sample, or maybe a 12ml rollerball. I still have a few others to give a second spin.

  8. I have been wearing Calandre over the last 2 days. I didn’t realize it is so beautiful and so timeless. And it is very unisex by today’s standards. While its similarities to Rive Gauche are well known (Calandre came first), it also seems like a distant relative of Madame Rochas if my memory is serving me well.

  9. Yesterday I wore Wrappings by Clinique….a bright and clear green scent. I got a decent 4 hours ,before it had disappeared. I then used a couple samples; on left wrist, the last of my Teone Bodhi and the right wrist Chanel 18.
A side note; My husband asked me to choose his Monday SOTD…… He was wafting the vintage Jules.. and I was in heaven. For bed I wore some Yardley’s lavender to assist sleep.
It is Tuesday morning… I’m full of energy after a very good sleep; My chosen scent is a sample of Penhaligon’s The Uncompromising Sohan.

  11. The gorgeous Miss Kate has sent me a lovely selection to sniff my way through this week (between soothing sessions of Teone’s magical potions). Today, My Name by Trussardi. Not something I would have thought to check out, but oh so beautiful and feminine. Powdery floral with just enough vanilla to please my gourmand palette. Perfection.

  12. I had zero energy but one foul mood this morning. I wore the very special La fille de berlin to summon up some raw mystique. And now here I am – feeling freaking fabulous.
Can I just say how much I love doing this together with y’all! xx

  14. Guerlain Encens Mythique D’orient: silly name, but I have been loving the hell out of this scent this winter. with bonus longevity. 13 hours and it’s still got volume and character.

  15. Wearing D.S & Durga’s Mississippi Medicine today which was enthusiastically approved this morning by Mr 7 as I hugged him goodbye. It is La Fille et Aguilles dark and mysterious cousin with cool slightly medicinal notes replacing Le Fille’s warm chutney spices. Luuurve…so good on this humid morning.

Am I the only one here who returns to their last post on this thread, then reads everyone else’s? I do this each morning and it can take me a full hour! I LOVE being in this little community.
On Tuesday I tried Lady Vengeance….Wasn’t good on me, and my husband described it as ‘suitable for a funeral’. I applied some EA Green Tea Camellia over it to ‘soften’ it. This morning I’m wearing vintage Miss Dior.

i’m all musky, bit smoky, vanilla and cedar. Sweet & spice. And i’ve got a little fog around me which is how i like it. Its helping me get thru the damm humidity we got here today.

  22. I have around 12-14 samples of Byredo so I am going to commit to sampling them all. Today is Pulp which is perfect as we are expecting unseasonable warm weather (sadly not to stay, tomorrow it dips back down again). Something about this reminds me of Prescriptives Calyx (the original from the mid 1980s which was my summer go to for eight years). I find it amazing that for every perfume there is a twin or sister or cousin……something similar enough to scratch an itch….which works well when certain fragrances become discontinued.

  24. Vintage Miss Dior EDT today, though it’s a little knocked sideways and into the background by the fulsome remnants of Zoologist’s Civet that are on my scarf. You’d think it would work, but it *really* doesn’t.

  25. Trying out the NR Santal Musc today and it’s ‘very nice’ rather than gorgeous. It has good projection and has been working hard for 7 or so hours now and no sign of diminishing yet. It’s bugging me though, it is similar to something else and I can’t think what it is. I’m glad to have it to try but don’t need a full bottle. NR are bringing out Narciso Rouge soon, if not already. The bottle, wow😍

    Like

    • I have tried one or several of the NRs but the bottles/names are so confusing that I don’t quite know which ones I have or haven’t tried. Are they all focused on the sweet musk? because that is what I remember from what I sampled thus far.

      Like

    • Cassieflower, six Narciso’s hey! thats pretty good. I’m about the same in numbers. There’s slight differences between them all for me and some last longer than others. Original for Her in black bottle with pink writing (EDT) i think is the stand out. Seems we (meaning Aust) dont get access to some of the others from the line like Santal and a few others i can see on google images. Might be a good thing for my piggy bank xo

    • Sycamore is gorgeous. I tried really hard to sway hubby toward Sycamore when we were last at the Chadstone Chanel store. He didn’t like it, however we both agreed on Coromandal, so a bottle of that came home with us. Sycamore is still on ‘my’ want list

    • When I first tried sycomore on a blotter I was so underwhelmed. It just smelled like damp cardboard. The canny sales assistant gave me one of her precious samples. Yeah. I bought a bottle within a week. Because it’s a different beastie on skin.

  29. Voyage d’hermes today which is a scent I had got a mini of when I started out my fragrance journey but has dismissed as not me. So there I was, last night, sorting through the ‘to be passed on’ pile of samples and mini’s when the cute bottle called to me… and oh….what was I thinking? Or maybe my tastes have changed? I don’t know but I sure am enjoying wearing it again this morning – lemony, spicy, a crisp almost starched linen note – just the thing for this humid summer weather.

    Like

    • It really is a good choice in the heat! I bought a bottle before Christmas and found it doesn’t wear equally well in real winter weather, so have put it away. Obviously summer here would be more like the spring weather in Australia!

  30. Guerlains Vol de Nuit for me today. Put stacks on to survive the walk to work. Lovely mossy, woodsy, jasmine and amber. Think my Serge Lutens purchases will find me later today – so exciting. With some cooler weather due tomorrow (thank goodness) they will definitely get a spin.

  31. Wearing SL Bois & Fruits this evening. It just does’t seem to develop much on skin. I have a small dab sample. so perhaps it works better from a spray bottle? The whole thing seems a bit thin, actually.

  33. Byredo 1996. Portia’s post on 1976 made me reach for this one also named after a year. It reads very dry to my wonky nose. Not sure what the notes are.

    Happy it is Friday!

    • I think it is the juniper berries that create that dry accord. I have also added to the mix Undergreen’s Gold….spices, ginger and resins…this feels very polished for an all natural…I would have thought it was a mixed media.

  34. The cool change blew in YAY for cooler weather so I broke out the Goldfield & Banks samples this morning. I’ve got Desert Rosewood on one arm and Blue Cypress on the other.

Desert Rosewood is gorgeous so far, rich and a little spicy with a hint of fruit and vanilla.

Blue Cypress is…unexpected…there’s an aquatic note amongst the cypress trees. Not like Bracken Woman or L’Ombre Dans L’Eau but a…beachy isn’t right…nearly swampy like Un Jardin sur le Nil…but fresher? I’m not describing it very well. Looking at the card it’s inspired by Kakadu ao that makes sense. All the same it’s broken my brain a bit because it isn’t a combo I’ve encounted before. Waiting to see how it develops.

However, the winner today is “Fetische” by Mark Evans. I unexpectedly have the weekend off. Whooo Hoooooo

  36. Rozy Voile, from a sample. Wore it last night, and wearing it again today because it’s magnificent. I thought the exuberance and raw emotion of it might help push me out of a sorrow-funk I’m sitting in. (For a few days I’ve been getting backwashes of grief from my father’s death last year.)

Snarl, however, thinks it smells “medicinal”. Cheers, darling. It’s ok, though, he’ll keep hugging me even if he thinks I smell like cough syrup.

  38. I’m eearing Tauer Noontide Petals today. The top notes are the best part of it IMO, but this one moves very quickly to the base notes. Less of a commitment than many of Andy’s other scents and easier to wear at any time, very bright scent.
