Hello Lovers of Smooth!

Yesterday I went down to the Libertine and Agence de Parfum 2018 new Australian winter releases. They are bringing a bunch of great stuff down here and we got to spend some quality time learning the ropes. I will be writing an event review tomorrow for you all. There were a few new scents that I really liked and one of them was 1976. It was funny, when Ainslie Walker and I were sniffing it she turned to me and said, “This is so YOU!” Then it was the bottle she was given in my goodie bag so she gave it to me! How freaking nice is that?

Floris the brand has not been one I’ve spent a lot of time with. Last year I reviewed Soulle Amber, and I tried some of the range last time I was in Fortnum & Masons and they were all beautifully blended and wearable. To be honest I feel like the brand is not aiming itself at me. Their packaging is luxe but the bottles and front stickers look to me like the sort of thing my grandma would have bought for nothing at the local chemist and worn everyday till it was dry.

1976 Floris FragranticaFragrantica

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, Lemon, Black pepper, Birch leaf
Hear: Jasmine, Juniper, Vetiver, Lavender
Base: Patchouli, Amber, Musk

Opening is a pretty zing of fresh cracked peppers and citrus leaves. It’s refreshing and lively, much more animated than the others in the line I’ve tried. It’s not long before the sharp jumper berry drops in with an old school hit of lavender. Though I am loathe to sex perfumes 1976 does skew towards modern accepted masculine territory.

Yesterday’s trial at the event gave me a much larger hit of patchouli than today’s wear and I’m attributing that to the cooler temperatures. Today the patchouli is almost timid bout yesterday it was totally in my face. 1976 is giving me a juniper berries and frosty pine forest vibe. A totally different experience. I like both versions a lot.

I’m transported back to our drive to Zakopane in the Polish Ski Fields in 2013. Jin and I went with his brothers family, they live in Slovakia and it was a fabulous day trip.

Jin says it smells just like the soap and lotion in the South Korean saunas when he was a kid. We get two enthusiastic thumbs up from him.

  1. I haven’t tried any Floris perfumes, which is why I’d like to try this one. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the UK and I miss it, so some English perfume would be lovely! Thank you for the giveaway you generous folks. Follow by email. 🙂

I have never tried a Floris perfume (or at least I don’t think I have-LOL~!) but there was one that I was interested in because of the almond note (I am on an almond/marzipan quest as of late).

1976 sounds appealing to me because I am old enough to remember that year and lavender and patchouli float my boat!

thank you Portia for this generous draw!!!!

  5. Wow, what a fabulous giveaway! Thank you.

I have only heard of Floris perfumes but haven’t tried any. The mention of juniper, vetiver and lavender in 1976 sparked my interest, I love these notes.

I follow via email & FB. Good luck!

  7. This sounds really lovely! I generally like the Florises I’ve tried, though never enough for me to buy a FB. I do really really love their soaps, though. I think Honey Oud was my favorite of the samples I tried. I follow by e-mail. Thanks, Portia 🙂

  8. I follow by my email. I haven’t tried anything by Floris, and would like to check out one of their fragrances. I think 1976 would be fun to wear, since I’ve seen some comparison to Aventus, which is an amazing scent in it’s own right.

  9. I have an old bottle of Malmaison, which I adore. There’s not much left, so I’ve been trying to ration it as much as my willpower will allow!

Thanks for the draw; I follow by email.

  10. I find it amazing how fragrances can conjure up different things for different folks. Now that I have my decant (thank you so much Portia!) I can see myself wearing 1976 in the heat of summer…it starts of very citrus, segues into powder and the drydown is sweet…am loving the entire ride!
