Chœur des Anges by Atelier des Ors: Autumn Gold

Hey hey APJ!

Autumn, my favorite season of the year, has arrived in all of its glory. The days are getting noticeably shorter and yet the sun can be so warming on my face. As the leaves start to morph into their various shades of yellow, orange and crimson, the low lying sun kisses them with a warmth of gold making the sunny days an endless joy to be outside.

Atelier des Ors: Chœur des Anges by Marie Salamagne

Robert Louis Stevenson eloquently describes autumn in his poem Autumn Fires.

Autumn Fires

by: Robert Louis Stevenson

In the other gardens

And all up in the vale,

From the autumn bonfires

See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over,

And all the summer flowers,

The red fire blazes,

The grey smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!

Something bright in all!

Flowers in the summer!

Fires in the fall!

Earlier this year, Atelier des Ors launched their White Collection. As I understand it, this collection is inspired by the art world and mankind’s search for joy and happiness. Imagery used in connection with this collection is Gustav Klimt’s Beethoven Frieze which is in the Secession in Vienna, Austria. For me, the importance in telling you all of this is Klimt’s use of gold and colour in his artwork and the colours invoked in my mind when wearing the perfume.

Notes listed on First in Fragrance are: blood orange, black currant, pear, orange blossom, carrot seeds, osmanthus, honey, cedarwood, ambergris.

When I first spray I get the juiciest blood orange and black currant. This is like drinking a glass of freshly squeezed blood orange juice with a splash of black currant. Deliciously decadent and perfectly ripe for autumn, this opening brings the golden season alive with the crimson flesh of the blood orange and the mauve juice from the black currant. Now all of this sounds awfully sour, however, sweet golden honey has been wickedly added to make this mixture addictive.

Chœur des Anges remains in this golden hue for a couple of hours, inviting me to breathe in deeply and smile. Everything will be alright. Let the stress go. The dry down takes a couple of hours to arrive and it is different depending on the day or perhaps the temperature of the day. On one day it is a golden fruity honeyed amber ending and then on another day I am completely taken by surprise when I catch a whiff of warm ambergris which is one of my treasured notes.

Chœur des Anges is a golden perfume for the glory days of autumn. Don’t get me wrong though, it will also work well during the rest of the seasons giving me joy with its citrus opening and honeyed amber dry down. I am looking forward to trying the others from the White Collection.

Do you have a favorite season? Do you associate perfumes with colours?

Kisses. Until next time.

  1. This perfume sounds beautiful and it’s nice to see carrot seed as a note… when paired with cedar it mimics orris. I love the look of the bottles too. Favorite season has always been spring but I am coming around to loving autumn too. And yes I pair perfumes with colors. Thanks for this great review, Sandra.

    • Hi Brigitte,
The bottles are really lovely to hold. They are quite sturdy. I love all seasons, but falls colours are stunning against the backdrop of a clear blue sky. Perfume and color just works IMO. Sandra xo

  2. Loved the picture of the windmills in Rotterdam. I hope the teaching is going well! That was a lovely review Sandra. I’ve only ever tried one Atelier. Iris Fauve. Very beautiful. More woody than iris tho with an addictive smoky sweetness. Come to think of it, a great fall perfume. This one is most definitely a warm, soft, mellow golden colour. Much like afternoon autumn sunshine slanting between turning leaves in the woods.
I’ve never been a big fan of autumn. It signals the end of so many good times. Lazy, carefree summer days. My daughters home from school. Holidays on the beach in Maine. The fall can be quite melancholic for me, despite its’ beauty. I agree with Brigitte in that spring is my favorite season. Full of promise, new life, renewed energy. Yup. My heart is firmly with Spring.

  3. Hi Sandra! Beautiful photos and a lovely review. The Choir of Angels must be divine, pun intended!

Spring and summer are my favourite seasons as I hate the cold and short days. Following spring around the globe is one of my dreams…

  4. Oh yeeeeees. I associate perfumes with colour a bigtime. This AdO sounds stunning and quite different to the original collection? Must try and get hold of some.
My favourite time of the year is Sept – December. I love the darker nights and cooler/cold weather, the build up to Christmas. But once January starts …… hugs xxxxx

    • Hi there Val! Yes, this is quite different to the original collection. I wish I could go to the Secession in Vienna with you while testing this. The cold snd darkness are not my favorite part of fall. But I too love Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas so much! Sandra xo

  5. I am ordering a sample of this one today, too long it is has been on my mind. It sounds delectable. I also do associate fragrances with color and compartmentalize them that way, I often match my scent to whatever I am wearing. Fall as a season and its fragrances (my associations–spice, honey, incense notes) are my favorite.

  6. The AdO range we currently have in Oz are GORGEOUS. If I ever earn more money, I’m getting them. But this one sounds just as lovely.

Summer is my hardest scent season. Traditional citrus colognes make me nauseous after 5 min, so I have to find trans seasonal sorts. Luckily, I now have a selection of warmer weather beauties.

    • Hi Katesplace,
I am so glad to hear that you love ADO. The new ones should be great in summer. I have the same problem as you do with citrusy summery perfumes so i would love to hear what you are able to wear.
