Hey Hey Perfume Junkies,

OK I’m adding a THUNKED section here too. It’s becoming an APJ obsession and I love the idea of us using our fragrances and hoiking the vial, decant or bottle. Thunk is the sound of an empty hitting the bin so you must empty it for the thunk to count.

Anything worthy of comment, either good or bad, that’s passed under my nose through the week will get a short write up. If I think something is terrible, shamefully lazy, greedy or stupid and you should know about it, it will be said. As always YMMV.

I’d love it if you get involved: agree, respectfully disagree, have any thought-out opinion and want to share, do so in the comments below. The point is starting a conversation.

New Sniffs:

Eau Cerise VdP by DSH Perfumes

OOOH! Sour cherries and roses float over a green, stemminess and warm resins. Slightly sweet but in a natural fruit and lightly animal way. Another interesting beauty from Dawn.

Oudh Noir by DSH Perfumes

Woo Hoo! All the funky Band-Aids with a hefty dose of dark tar and some horses mane. So new it’s not eve on the DSH website yet. Really exciting to smell this friendly oudh, perfect for newbies.

Thunked:

Vanille Orient by M. Micallef

I really liked this series from the Micallef crew and bought a bottle of Vanille Marine. This vanilla is a lightly animalic straight up vanilla with a soft focus woodsy angle. Originally my thought was that it is a bit too much like some other vanillas in my collection. Wearing the whole vial today though has awaken me to the interesting depths and variance through its fragrant life. MMMMMMMMM. Now I am craving a bottle of this too. Damnit!

Ormonde by Floris

I had a big decant of this and wore it infrequently over the years. It is a rose and nutty fougere, very pretty and a little bit old fashioned. It seems to be lost without a definite direction and I wonder if that’s why it was DCd. So happy to have thunked the decant.

Have you tried any of these? How did they work for you?

  1. I am fairly certain that I tried a few from the vanille line including this one as well as Vanille Marine…I agree nicely done. Eau Cerise interests me as well but I haven’t sniffed it.
I did not thunk anything this week that I am aware of…but I am lucky if I can remember what I did an hour ago :)……

  2. I haven’t sniff any of yours mentioned Portia. I thunked a new sniff; Miss Dior Blooming. I really enjoyed how pretty the composition is, it smells really good but not FB worthy for me.

  3. I’ve tried none of these. My new sniffs are Fetish and Resonance Provision. The latter is a deep woody perfume which I’ll definitely wear again but Fetish left me unimpressed: must be the combo of cinnamon and tuberose.
No proper thunking but I’ve prepared a bunch of samples for a friend.

  4. Vanille Orient sounds really great. Really curious about it now :)) damn
Thunked a small decant of Pacific Lime from Atelier Cologne, a great freshy-lime especially for summer 👌🏻

  5. No empties here, and never met any of the your new sniffs. But my newbies were pretty exciting:

Bogue 07738: how often do I wear the same scent two days in a row? Or even twice in one day, reapplying after the gym? For this, yes, yes I do. I’m still exploring it, and it seems to vary hugely depending on amount applied, skin temperature, and who knows, maybe the angle of the light 😉 I don’t think it’s his *best* perfume but it’s a fascinating pleasure to wear, and something of a baffling marvel given how it was concocted (keep adding things until it smells right, I believe).

And I got a little pack of samples from Heeley while they had free shipping…

Vetiver Veritas: aye, that’s a good vetiver, and well-named.

Eau Sacree: I’ve loved Cardinal for ages–even though I *still* don’t have a bottle–but this was the first time I’d tried his other incense. Warmer and smoother than Cardinal, it feels less austere from the lovely dose of myrrh and doesn’t have the bright the lemon-wax sparkle. It was a real pleasure to wear.

  6. I have tried quite a few from M. Micallef but unfortunately not this one, shall seek it out. The Eau Cerise is also on my want-to-try list as I love cherry as well as DSH creations in general. Yesterday I finished off and thunked a 5 ml decant of Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine, and also ordered a decant of their Pacific Lime which I’ve been hearing good things about.

  7. I have a bottle of Vanille Orient, lovely stuff. I also have Heeley Eau Sacrée that Crikey mentioned and love it too. The only thing I’ve thunked is an unlabeled sample from Osswald NYC which was an okay fruity thing but not remotely interesting to purchase. It did smell nice sprayed on my shower curtains!

  8. Thanks Portia, have not tried any of your mentions. Crikeys’ new sniiff of Heeleys Eau Sacree sounds interesting- onto the sample wish list it goes.
New sniffs and thunks from me – sample vials of Montale Dew Musk and Santal Wood. Both lovely. And Dior Ambre Nuit- so very beautiful upon applying but five minutes later and it’s gone.

  9. I’m kind of over vanilla scents for the moment. Winter fatigue, I suppose, but the Vanille Marine sounds intriguing.
I’ve nothing in the bin but I’ve had a couple of stellar new sniffs.
I’m besotted by MAAI. An opulent, old school glamour queen that just won’t quit. I’ve only done a brief sniff of MEM, but it deserves more attention before I comment. Both are without a doubt original and complex and most likely worth a full bottle purchase.

  10. I’m certain I haven’t tried any of your new sniffs. In fact I haven’t tried more than three perfumes from M. Micallef.

No new sniffs, my BIL was told at the Chanel boutique in New Bond Street that they had no more samples of 1957. He came back with samples of Chanel Bleu and Chance, not really interesting!

I did get my FB of Chanel Gardenia, it is lovely and frankly I cannot detect any big difference from what I tested back in 2013. I know Chanel Gardenia doesn’t get a lot of love in blogland, but it is perfect for me, I have few florals in my collection.

    • I absolutely love Chanel Gardenia! I’ve always wondered why it doesn’t get much love either. Many Gardenia perfumes are too cloying for me; Chanel’s is so pretty, elegant, refined, and easy to wear.

    • Hi Ingeborg,
One of my BFFs Eve loves CHANEL Gardenia. All other perfume irks her (on herself) but Gardenia seems to hit the exact spot. I think it’s general lack of weird means that the scentbloggosphere passes it by. Being pretty and wearable is often mistaken for banal. Gardenia is anything but.

  11. New sniff: Kiki Extrait de Parfum. Love. I always hoped to find a lavender based fragrance, and there she is. Quite a few Vero samples were included in my Naja buy, I suppose my dopamine needs topping up after all this footpain…so I am going to splurge one way or another. still have Onda to go. No Rubj, as think that has sold out worldwide.

  12. Eau Cerise sounds yum. Sour cherry isn’t something I’m familiar with in perfume, as the only cherry fumes I have/had are Delices de Cartier and Aromatics Black Cherry. Both wildly different from each other. My new sniffs for the next few days will be courtesy of our own fair Crikey. A few surprises there. Haven’t time for next couple of days as the Smallies are all full on! I’m busy with stuff. How on earth do women cope with big families at all? I’d be found dead in a ditch, I think😂
    Thunked only one, Tauer L’eau.
I’m waiting on my tester of Montale Golden Flowers that you were wearing last week, Portia. So I’ll have a full week of sampling. Yippee.

  13. No thunks for me this week. But today i found a half-full bottle of Felanilla on the perfumo.de website. Sadly the Fille en Aiguilles was reserved for a faster buyer.
Went sniffing in a perfume store in Ludwigsburg and tested some Acqua Motu and Montale Sandflowers, both nice summer scents. But as i have a full decant of Acqua di Sale and a half bottle of Sel Marin by Heeleys i will have to use this up first.
