David Frossard: Meeting P. Frapin & Cie creative director

Hello Perfume Lovers,

There is a rule of thumb in business. The sales staff should be engaging, attractive helps too. No matter what you’re selling if people are engaged by you it will go much easier.

The creative director of fragrance at P. Frapin & Cie is David Frossard. David is both engaging and extremely attractive. Sharp, quick, easy going and passionate with a very French nonchalance. Watching him sell his product was a masterclass is room manipulation and we ate it up. It helped that the new frags smelled good but seriously, he could have handed me a plate full of cow poo and I would have been tempted to eat it just to make him happy. Continue reading

Hello dear APJ readers. How are you all doing?

Life is quiet here at the moment. Loving the routine and no added stress this week. As I sit and write this post, the sun is shining and the sky is a brilliant blue. The trees and bushes are starting to bud and as I walk around doing all of my errands each day, I stop and smell flowers along the way. Not much is out yet, but give it a couple of weeks and it will be gorgeous. Continue reading

SOTD 19 – 25 March 2018

Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

Saturday Question: What’s Your Favourite L’Artisan Fragrance?

Hello Fellow Fumies,

Every Saturday we have a Question, an idea purloined from Olfactoria’s Travels. Everyone gets to chime in with an answer, chat with other responders and it is a fun event each week. Taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

The idea is you’ll see it on the weekend or chime in through the week. Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Hi there Scent Hounds,

It seems Sandalwood is the new fragrant Pink Pepper and Oud rolled into one. Now that the Australian Mysore and Australian Santalum spicatum are doing big business the base note favourite is back in vogue and there are some excellent new fragrances using them as the core story. Miller et Bertaux have jumped on board early, releasing their newest baby Indian Study / Santal +++ in 2017. Libertine Parfumerie is bringing it into Australia and I got a sneaky sniff at their Winter 2018 Showcase. Continue reading

The packaging and bottle design is luxurious and really beautifully thought out. These beauties will make perfect gifts, especially for people who love perfume but haven’t dived right down the rabbit hole yet.

Romeo & Juliette by Shakespeare Perfume

Romeo & Juliette by Shakespeare Perfume City perfume March 2016City Perfume

City Perfume gives these featured accords:
Top: Orange, lemon, bergamot
Heart: Fruits
Base: Amber, white musk, Madagascar vanilla

Romeo & Juliet has a citrus opening with a woodsy popcorn backbeat. I smell some pepper too.  Utterly unisex perfume and presentation but the company sells it towards the women. I’m sure that any guy trying it will feel perfectly comfortable.

The fruits seems like pear and apple and are not strong or ultra sweet, more like a wash. There are hints of Guerlain poking through the heart of Romeo & Juliet yet without the full on sweetness of candy or bakery

The base seems to be a nutty, praline like amber. No, not praline. Nougat. Yep, nougat, amber and laundry musks. I cannot honestly pinpoint it but my guess is ambroxan with some bells & whistles.

City Perfume has $189/100ml
Don’t forget the 10% Discount Code in the side column.

Little Black Dress by Barbara Zoebelein for Avon 2001

.

Kate Apted

Hello all you lovely APJ family.

I owe a huge thanks to Sam from I Scent You a Day. Had I not found her blog and lurked around for a while, I’d have never dusted off my mum’s perfume collection and found a few Avon gems. Sam is a huge Avon fan and her enthusiasm caused me to see what all the fuss was about. I hadn’t bothered with Avon since I was a tween. Bad quality and poor longevity put me off.

Deciding I liked Little Black Dress (LBD) after trying what sat on mum’s bureau, I ordered a bottle on sale. My version is the latest one with the black sticker on the back and the fully black cap, while mum’s is an original from the year of its release with the transparent glass body and a half black cap. Interestingly, I prefer my bottle. I will stand by my view that Avon scents trail off after 30 min to one hour, but in the case of LBD, the scent is what makes it worth buying. At the price it generally goes for, even online, I am happy to keep reapplying. Avon’s rollerball version is perfect for my handbag or travel. And it comes with body products! Win! Continue reading
