Hello friends, Narth here diving into a fragrance type I’ve not been a fan of in the past. Today I write humbled by this beautiful creation.

I’ll just come out and say it. I’ve never been completely sure what an Aquatic is. I’ve assumed it was code for “I’ll wear this on a super hot day because it is briefly refreshing and won’t stick around long enough to annoy me”. I’m sure I’m not alone in losing interest when a scent is labelled Aquatic. What I would like the word Aquatic to mean and what mainstream scents have produced under this label are quite different.

Kramer spoke for us all when he had that brainfart that the perfect scent ever would smell like the BEACH but nothing really smells like that. For one thing beaches smell different everywhere. I love the ones with a lot of ocean rot and seaweed, the salty, kelpy goodness. I love the smell of my skin after the ocean salt dries on it. The saltiest fragrance I ever found was Jo Malone Blue Agave and Cacoa but this is not a review about holy grail salty fragrances, it’s a review about an Aquatic

Pekji Eaumer is not about the beach. It is Nautical! No drinks with umbrellas in sight, you’re on the OCEAN. It’s bracing, it’s invigorating, it’s salty and it’s fine. It all works together beautifully. With a nice dose of lime to stave off scurvy in the middle notes it dries down to a peppery vetiver and bergamot with a warm ambergris funk. I love it.

The lime keeps Pekji Eaumer fresh when there’s so much under the surface that hints of murky depths. It has great sillage and staying power and unlike many aquatics the best part is not over in the first 10 minutes. It retains it’s character for hours. This is not one of those crisp scents you have to keep huffing for the top notes, they are always with you. As with the other Pekjis I’ve tried the ingredients are a beautiful quality. What an interesting treat Pekji Eaumer is!

  2. Wow this sounds good to me.
    Favorite ocean smell by far is Secretions Magnifiques which smells like the Atlantic ocean of my childhood with a touch of cream. Stunning.
    I also love LArtisan Un Air de Bretagne, CSP Aqua Motu, Berdoues Grand Cru Azur Riviera and Escada’s Ocean Bleue. I am sure there are more to add to my list but I can’t think of them at the moment. January Scent Project also has a new fragrance with a seaweed note that I think is classified as an aquatic which smells quite good but the name escapes me.

    • WHOA Brigitte this was inspiring! I have only smelled the infamous Secretions Magnifiques twice and I did not care for it but next time I have the opportunity I will be thinking of the ATLANTIC! The Atlantic is my favourite smelling ocean lol. No really, it smells much stronger than the Pacific or the bay my city is on. I miss that intense ocean smell. Though I’ve never thought to mix it with cream so Secretions might still be a loser for me, we will see! I like that L’Artisan too but seems very light?

  3. Not a big aquatic fan, but I do like Missoni Acqua (sadly discontinued) and a couple of beachy rose scents: DS & Durga Rose Atlantic and Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia.

  4. I would have probably skipped this post (I’ve never even heard of the brand), but as I was commenting on the Val’s post, I went to the APJ Home and read the title. Actually, it happened twice – before and after reading her post, but with the same result: The way the title is written (with the space), I read it as “Eau Me.” Of course, I got curious! And then you masterfully reeled me in by your Kramer reference 🙂

    Aquatic is not a genre I usually go for, so I can’t think of any favorites there, but your description of Eaumer made me curious enough to try it if I ever come across this brand.

  6. That’s a great review, Narth. Aquatics aren’t really something I seek out. But I associate beach with aquatics and there are several that I love in that category. Probably the only ‘aquatic’ I own is L’eau d’Issey, and even that is quite floral. For pure salt and beach then I’d pick Francesca Bianchi Sex and the Sea. All bases covered there.
