Hello Australian Perfume Junkies and friends, So glad to have you drop by Scent Diary. Grab a cuppa or beverage of choice, sit back and check what has happened, been eaten, spritzed and seen in our lives in Sydney, Australia.

At then end please leave us some comments. What or who did you see, do, eat with. Did you spritz, purchase, have arrivals or finish a sample? What’s happening in your world? If you’re writing or reading opinions, we can disagree but keep it nice and try not to give or take offense. Right now the world needs a web of friendships and connection more than ever. We all have perfume and each other in common. That’s a whole lot.

Set up my Scent Diary templates till December.

Started organising my Trivia Jackpots and Runs for the month.

Kath and TinaG met us in a halfway suburb between town and us. We were supposed to have Taiwanese BUT it was closed for the public holiday. So we headed around the corner for Yum Cha. So good.

Back doing Trivia Q&A

Jin cooked Pork Schnitzel and we both made some sides. Gisella and Matt came over for dinner. It was fun, always so much to chat about, laughs to have and even some heavier discussions. LOVED it.

Dinner over, the crew left. Jin went to bed.

Waf next door came home. I popped in and we chattered for an hour. Alarm rang.

Back to Trivia Q&A

Midnight I jumped up and fed/walked Momo.

Finishing up Trivia Q&A. Mailing, printing.

Had an hour to kill so went and did some reading.

Jin came home and fixed the toilet in. my bathroom. It had been continually running rivulets of water rather than stopping when full. All fixed. He’s a bloody champion.

Wish I’d taken some photos. Tonight was a really spectacular look and I was completely up myself.

Morning routine 10 minutes

Cleaned the house, well gave it a quick spit and promise. Took Momo for a wee.

Betty arrived and we headed off for lunch. On the way we noticed that the Dioriginals were in stock. Drenched myself in Dioressence on one arm and Diorling on the other.

Lunch at L’il Miss Collins was fun. Loads of catching up to do. Food was excellent. We were met there by Jean-Luc and then Penny flew in from Noosa.

Afterwards we wandered over to Westfield where we met Scotty and smelled the nine Dioriginals they currently had in stock. It was so fun. Everyone had a favourite, all of them different.

Yes, I purchased two Diorling and Dioressence. Diorella will be mine too when funds allow.

After our sniff and shop we needed a cuppa. Penny had fled to see her daughter so we four imbibed.

Came home. Betty and I fed and walked Momo.

Caught the bus and train across the city to North Sydney for lunch with Lisa. We had such a good time. Sorry no photos. Just lunch, chatter and laughs.

Home.

Jin and I organised dinner. Mainly Jin, it was a vegetarian leaning dinner for one of our friends Jane. Her partner Martin eats fish so I provided the protein.

It was Mum’s Snapper Fillet recipe. Super simple. Throw some salt, pepper and tarragon in with some plain flower. Cover the fillets lightly. Lay thin lemon slices and a dob of butter on each fillet. Wrap in foil. Cook 180C for 20 minutes. Freaking easy and delicious.

Then we had fruit salad.

It was a lovely evening but I forgot to take pics. Sorry.

Up early this morning to get brunch ready. Our neighbor’s 20th birthday, Ash. Her and her Mum Waf came in. Simple fare. Ham & Cheese Croissants and Scones. I have home made Plum Jam, Cherry Jam and Passionfruit Lemon Butter in the fridge. All gifts of loving friends. We had them with heavy dollop cream and coffee. It was fun. SORRY! No pics.

Fed and walked Momo. We headed off in a bit of a different direction today but didn’t walk much longer than normal. She must have sniffed every meter of ground we covered. Such joy and excitement. She was exhausted by the time we got home. She hit the couch and stayed there.

Watched a bit more Matlock.

Jin came home from work and we chilled for a while.

DIOR vintage Dioressence EdT. This is my OG bottle. It smells much less fresh and alive in the first minute than the one I bought for Tara. Two minutes in though, HEAVEN!

Dioressence Scent Diary

Our dear friend TinaG’s birthday dinner tonight. It was a very cool crew. Jin, Simon, Kerri, TinaG, Kath and Miranda. We headed to our favourite Chinese restaurant, Liu Rose. It was opened in 1971 and my Dad’s shop was two doors up so I’ve been going there since childhood. It’s still exactly the same decor and the staff are amazing. We think it’s the best Australian 1970s Chinese food anywhere.

Home.

Got this Scent Diary up to date.  SHIT! It’s midnight. Where did that nearly three hours go?!?

I know this is boring but we changed the bed linen. Tonight we’ll both be getting into fresh sheets. Woo Hoo!

Kath came over and we had Ham & Cheese Croissants with salad and Scones after. She also took this photo.

Jin and I went to Kath’s Dad’s place and did some stuff around the house. Light change, azalea cutting, a couple of other little things.

Home and Jin did a ceiling fan for our upstairs neighbour.

Bubble Bath time for me. On this very warm day I had an unbelievably hot bath. It was heaven.

Le Galion Sang Bleu. The original batch that smells a LOT like vintage DIOR Fahrenheit but even better. Tonight at work one of the staff TJ said I smelled really good. YAY!

Apologies for the lack of pics this week. I don’t know why but just kept forgetting to take them. As I was leaving a crew it would occur. SORRY!

Now it’s your turn. Please tell us something you did, spritzed, ate, wore, bought or finished. Maybe you saw a friend, a show, an exhibition. Maybe you got through the week without having to bury a body. Whatever, please share something with us.

I read and respond to every comment. C’mon, let’s chat.

  1. Hey Portia

The Dioressence bottle! Too exciting. And how cool it still has the top notes. I am one lucky bunny.

Glad you picked up a new bottle along with Diorling. Do get Diorella. One of my first real loves and the perfect time of year for it where you are..

Also nice to see Greystanes so busy.

I felt rough all week but I tidied up my perfume shelf. Got rid of some old samples and sprayed some Iris Poudre. Far too glam for a very casual day but it was good to revisit it. It will be soon be ISM weather here. Can’t wait.

    • Hey Tara,
I think you’re going to be absolutely thrilled. Can’t wait to give it to you.
Yes, I am also agog to try Diorama. It’s going to be a DIOR speedy kinda year I think.
LOVE wearing extra glam for casual, it feels ultra subversive. I like to wear vintage Shalimar extrait to do groceries. Nobody gives a shit but I know I smell Ah May Zing. HA!

      Feel better, I hope already.

  2. FK has massively increased his rep with me through the Dioriginals! Not been a fangirl before but these are how all houses should look after their heritage. Having done a deep dive read, apparently these have had no expense spared as far as ingredients go. Many are captives & the oakmoss substitute is the best on the market. No chip shop fat or vinegar here!

  3. Love your morning ritual. I’m doing some of those steps but might consider extending them with a couple of yours. The only issue is that 2-3 times a week I have a work meeting that starts too early for my schedule (I know, some will laugh – at 8 AM, but it’s early for me), so I do them (off-camera!) from my bed, which would interfere with some of the steps… But I’ll think about it.

Congratulations on the new bottles! It makes me want to throw caution to the wind and buy Diorella right now: since I liked even the version that I got 15 years ago, what’s the chance I won’t like this one? The only thing that unpleasantly surprised me is that even with the purchase of two bottles you didn’t get samples from that line. One would have thought that if anybody deserves those it’s a consumer who buys something from that launch. I’ll try calling a Dior boutique to see if they are able to send some samples with a bottle purchase.

    • We don’t have samples of the Dioriginals in Oz yet Undina so they threw in what they have. Diorella is really good, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
I can just imagine you doing all your morning stuff with a work meting happening in the background. Heaven!

    • Heya Nose Prose,
I like the house Maison Marcella but am yet to purchase a bottle. One day.
Oh yes, the Dioriginals are worth exploring. Finding quality vintage is getting incredibly speedy, with no reassurance that you are getting the real deal. I was VERY lucky with my Dioressence purchase. Maybe you have a perfume friend that has them. You could meet and have a vintage DIOR sniffy.

  4. Although I have not yet tried any Dioriginals, I am delighted by the reaction so far. This project could gain Kurkdjian some due credit.

What did I wear this week?

    • Ambre Sauvage Absolu – Annick Goutal
    • Violet Eyes, Elizabeth Taylor
    • Dolce Nostalgia, Vanilla & Incense – Zara
    • Silver Birth & Lavender – Jo Malone London
    • Crown Ess Bouquet, The Crown Perfumery Co.
    • Perry Ellis for Men (vintage) – Perry Ellis
    • Renaissance – Xerjoff

  5. Coromandel EdT for an admin day sounds like exactly the right call, that patchouli-chocolate warmth seems made for getting things organised. With spring warming up in Sydney, do you find yourself moving away from the heavier ones like Coromandel, or does it still work on milder days? Glad the toilet saga ended well!
