Hi there Scent Hounds,

It seems Sandalwood is the new fragrant Pink Pepper and Oud rolled into one. Now that the Australian Mysore and Australian Santalum spicatum are doing big business the base note favourite is back in vogue and there are some excellent new fragrances using them as the core story. Miller et Bertaux have jumped on board early, releasing their newest baby Indian Study / Santal +++ in 2017. Libertine Parfumerie is bringing it into Australia and I got a sneaky sniff at their Winter 2018 Showcase. Continue reading

Impressions De Giverny by Rasei Fort for Fort & Manlé 2018 + Interview

Hi there APJ,

There has been a lot of buzz around the Fort & Manlé brand in the last couple of years. The fragrances are excellent and not stereotypically niche. When you hold a bottle in your hand you can feel the heart and love that’s gone into creating something so beautiful, and then when you spritz! That’s when the real fireworks start. I’m an unashamed fan of Rasei and his work. We’ve met and I found him a Continue reading

Black Saffron by Ben Gorham for Byredo 2012

Hiya perfumed friends!

The other day when I was perusing my perfume collection I was thinking about how all the scents in my regular rotation have always been instant loves at first sniff. It’s not very often that I have to sample a scent for ages to work out whether it’s for me or not and even more rarely does a disliked perfume become a love after months or years of sampling as it Continue reading

Hey there APJ Crew,

It’s Mardi Gras Parade week here in Sydney. Though I’ve kept a pretty low profile Sydney has been bursting at the seams with International Visitors here to enjoy the last week of our Mardi Gras Season. The weather has been perfect for everything and I’m hearing reports of a super year. Saturday nights parade was my Big Event this year, hosting the Sideshow Glam Stands. An excellent week, now I’m bushed!

Hey there Perfume Lovers,

Criminal Elements is an Independent Australian Niche House now run by Corey Newcombe, but originally a joint enterprise with Aelfric Spector who has changed continental addresses. The house is making wonderful Indie fragrances. They are not safe and comfortable but raw, interesting, filled with passion and adventure. If you have spent your life this far smelling department Store scents then these are going to blow your mind. They may take a little adjustment time but once you get them, fabulous. Continue reading

Hi there Fumies,

Last week the Libertine crew had their Winter 2018 showcase. One of the fragrances I fell madly in love with is last years release from Les Liquides Imaginaries. Starting with the fabulous colour of the juice, the way the bottle feels in your hand and the way it would look on my dressing table. Already I wanted to like it but you know how that so often goes. So, putting a very tight rein on my expectations I picked it up and gave myself a spritz. I’m hoping Fleuve Tendre will be my next big budget splurge. Continue reading

Tubereuse Trianon by Yuri Gutsatz for Le Jardin Retrouve 2016

G’day APJ folk!

Hands up if you are a tuberose lover! Yup, me too! Have you ever noticed how tuberose tends to be treated in perfumery? For the most part, it is either big and loud and trumpets my presence into a room (think Amarige or Giorgio Bevery Hills) or it is pared with an assortment of off beat notes to subdue its energy (think Britney Spears Radiance or Hypnotic Poison). There is another treatment of tuberose that finds favour with me; the aristocratic creaminess of Tubereuse Trianon. Continue reading

Hey APJ Gym Bunnies, or not!

I have just walked in the door from my workout. Currently I am preparing to go and meet Vanessa from Bonkers About Perfume in Germany tomorrow. I am two days late writing this, failing to meet my own deadline. FFS. Face palm.

I have a question for those of you that go to the gym. I am sure it is not the first time it will have been discussed, but let’s do it anyway. Over the years I have not put a scent on to workout. Seriously, who want to be next to someone in a cloud of Continue reading
