CHANEL No 19 by Henri Robert and Monarch Butterfly Life Cycle

Hiya Fume Heads,

Today’s post is a little different. I am sitting at the computer surrounded by a soft cloud of CHANEL No 19 Parfum (the start of this century formulation) it is green, crisp and powdery and I am loving it. Though I must say that audacious and assertive aren’t adjectives I’d use when describing it. Effortless, Collected, Arrived. This is fragrance for someone who doesn’t need to show off because they are so comfortable with their success. I’m imagining silk jersey and jeans, hair tousled but chic, cuban heeled brogues and that look of welcome contentment that comes from success;  financial, physical and moral.

CHANEL No 19 Parfum

CHANEL No. 19 includes featured notes of galbanum, hyacinth, neroli, bergamot, jasmine, rose, lily of the valley, iris, vetiver, sandalwood, leather, musk.

Really, I am enjoying the gorgeous wafts emanating from my person too much. It is green, crisp and powdery to open and though it has a lovely bouquet of flowers that used in most fragrances would be flirty, lively and bold here they are pretty and fresh but they are restrained because of choice. for the next couple of hours of the fragrance on my skin it seems that one little push would send this good girl bad, it skirts the sensual side of jasmine offering glimpses of what it could become but never goes beyond hints, much later on CHANEL 19 Parfum will become ever so slightly warmed by leather and sandalwood, but not so much that it becomes anything other than cool, fresh and wearable. MMMMmM MMMMMMmm MMmMmm MmMm!!! I smell GOOD! I knew that I would now…..

Unfortunately my scent hungry skin finds CHANEL 19 Parfum delicious too and I’m lucky to get 5 hours before it is completely eaten up, you will probably get much better lasting power.

Chanel no. 19 is one of those deathless classics that are never inappropriate and never, ever go out of style. Of all the many, many perfumes I’ve loved and worn since I first began, no. 19 has been a constant. I’m even fairly certain it landed me not one, but two dream jobs! 😉 Something about it screams effortless, chic, cool, calm and completely collected – which is how it makes me feel and always has! And since I can’t wear no. 5…;-) Loved your review! xo

    • I can SO imagine you rocking this Sheila! I will always think of you now when I wear it. I love this 15ml Parfum spray too. We can’t get this size in Oz and it is way more practical.
Thanks for coming and saying G’Day,

Scent twin!!!! I love No.19. It is one of my “Go-To” fragrances. It inspires confidence in me. It makes me feel sophisticated, smart and beautiful. I find that wearing the body cream underneath it helps it to last longer on my skin. It might have been a limited edition. I still see it available on the U.S. Chanel website. Not sure if it’s available in Aussieland. I’d be happy to try and find some for you and be your mule. (That sounds a bit off color, doesn’t it?)
Today I’m going to the barn to sort thru tack and pack trunks and bring home extra stuff so I’m organized for my move on Tuesday. So looking forward to the new barn. I won’t be working anymore, but I’m hoping the new trainers will treat me, my daughter and my horse with respect. Tired of all the trash talk about my daughter. Tired of feeling like a slave and second class citizen when I know I’m not. I know I deserve better.
Think I will wear No.19 today as my suit of armor.
Also going to the airport after, to collect my DH who is returning from two weeks in Japan. 🙂

    • Why is anyone treating you as a 2nd class citizen? Tatiana I won’t have it. Good for you with the move and I hope hubby brings you something special.
I have a buddy here who works for Chanel, if I need stuff he orders it. Honestly though, if you saw how much body lotion I have you’d not ask if I needed more.
I am a total hoarder about some stuff. So happy we twin on No 19!

Sorry about whining on your lovely blog. I’m happier now that I have a confirmation email detailing my move and my dear husband is back from Japan. And yes, hubby always brings me special things from his travels, he just thoughtful that way. The best gifts though are his great big hugs. I’m sappy, I know.

I love No.19 in shape and form. EdT, EdP and extrait. I love, love, love the vintage and I love the modern as well.

Lucky you! having a generous friend working for Chanel. I’d be so broke if I had more access to Chanel. So much more broke than I am now. LOL

      • I have not yet shopped from him and feel bad but I really love the vintage stuff.
Ha hardly whining. you were expressing your trauma, very healthy. That’s part of what being in the APJ family is about.

I very much enjoyed reading this review, as your perceptions of No. 19 are similar to mine. It doesn’t come across to me as assertive or audacious either; I find myself drawn to the dewiness of the florals, particularly rose, that issues forth from that green crispness. It is indeed very “effortless, collected, arrived,” as you said. Oddly, though, I don’t wear it often because there is something that is a bit too cool and chill about it for me. Maybe I need to try this in the parfum concentration, as you did.

As to your butterfly question…hmm, I’ll probably be thinking about that for the rest of the day. A much better thing to contemplate than the monster hurricane that is supposedly heading our way ~ thank you!!

  4. Dionne says:

No. 19 doesn’t work on me – I think it’s the leather note in the base that “turns” it on my skin. However, I wear and adore Heure Exquise, which is not too different. If I had to choose only one green, this would be it. My Silences also fits into the cool, green, chic section, and I think every perfumista should have at least one perfume in this category.

    • Silences is one of those secret perfumista fragrances isn’t it. I often see it ridiculously well priced online and think maybe, but having No 19, Nikki de St Phalle and a couple of the Ellena’s I think the category is full.

    Hello Portia!

So glad you like No 19 and loved the review. I find it gorgeous and one of the few Chanels that actually has some tenacity on my skin. I need to get another bottle of it. As far as improvements go, I’m refinancing my home loan atm. With the money I save, am hoping Mr M and I can go o/s sometime next year. See you Wed! M xxx

    • AARRGGHH THE BANKS!! Aren’t they GHASTLY! I have been holding out on my refinancing for another drop. I was so lucky last time so now it’s just a waiting game.
Interesting tat No 19 lasts well on your skin. Very transient for Tim and slightly short for me.
Can’t wait to see you Wednesday.

I’m deeply in love with No 19. I own both EdT and extrait versions and I’m not sure which one I like more. Probably it depends on my mood. I’ve never tried vintage parfum so I’m curious: for your nose, how did it compare to the modern one?

Love your review Portia. This is a scent I really like especially the EDT. It’s so unisex, great on a guy or girl. I like green scents (chypres), with Galbanum, iris, Vetiver, and the like. I can really see myself buying a bottle of this. I need to try the vintage stuff that has more of the leather base. have you tried Silences by Jacomo? I hear it is very similar to Chanel No 19 but it’s a tad sweeter at the top.

  10. Does the edp and extrait have the leather accord in the base? I’m wondering which one will fare better on my skin.

You’ll need to try them Ferris, every reformulation wears differently in all the strengths. My extraits are a few years old and they will have changed.
So nice to see you though.
