Hello Happy Huffers,
Not so long ago my mate Dionne sent me a fragrant care package of a few of her most cherished gems. Only one of those mini atomisers arrived empty and it was one that Dionne especially wanted me to try. Serendipitously on FFF there happened to be a split of the 4 travel sized 10ml Ormonde Woman EdPs going so I put my hand up for one of my own.
Ormonde Woman EdP by Ormonde Jayne 2002
Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Cardamom, coriander, grass oil
Heart: Black hemlock, violet, jasmine absolute
Base: Vetiver, cedar wood, amber, sandalwood
Ormonde Jayne site says: Beginning and ending with the unique scent of Black Hemlock absolute – rarely used in such luscious quality and quantity – this utterly hypnotic, unconventional and mysterious woody essence is combined with jasmine and violet absolute to create a dusky, seductive perfume.
I love the green opening that seems to be warm. I know this makes little sense but that first few minutes rush is extraordinary. I don’t smell the notes as such but a sweet, warm, oily, green deliciousness reminiscent of freshly cut bell peppers is about as close as I can get to explaining what I smell. Floaty, ethereal and lively but dense at the same time, intrusive and rivetting. When the initial rush changes Ormonde Woman remains green and sappy but the flowers come through and lift it beyond itself. If black hemlock is what makes this beauty shine then I wish more perfumers would use it.
Unfortunately my skin eats all traces of Ormonde Woman well before I’m ready to let go of it, and before the story finishes. I get no amber and very little wood and am fragrance free in around 2 hours. Other people find it a tenacious fragrance that lingers for ages. If I spray on fabric instead of skin I get 6+ hours and much more of a journey. The first 2 hours that I get is exquisite though, well worth trying and the Ormonde Jayne Sample Set is Ah May Zing!!

I hope the silly season is not getting you down. It can be totally overwhelming at times. Don’t worry we’ll be over the drama and torment soon. Maybe try and look beyond the rubbish attached to Christmas and remember some really great messages that should come through like treat everyone well, take care of yourself and those around you and forgive. I’ve been trying to keep these in mind.
Happy Holidays to you all,

Portia, sweetie….I’ve had this in my top 5,forever…It’s so different from other scents, that,I could never be without it…smooches…
WOW Annielill. It’s lovely isn’t it. I wish it lasted longer on me but it’s great if I have to review later.
I’m so much like you in terms of body chemistry. I tried Serge Lutens’ lovely A La Nuit the other day for a mini-review. It lasted 30 minutes on me! Unbelievable. I recently received Ormonde Woman myself. I haven’t had the chance to test it out yet but I hear lovely things about it. Interestingly, I’m constantly reading comments about how O/J fragrances as a whole have extremely short duration or longevity. And one of my close friends tried Isfarkhan or something and said that it lasted 15 minutes on her. Everything lasts on her normally. So, in this case, it may not just be you and your perfume-consuming skin! 🙂
AHA! Thank you. I’ve not read the short lasting stuff but it’s interesting you say it. L’Artisan are often cited as short lived and a few of those last on me incredibly while Tauer is supposed to last forever and Eau d’Epices is quite shortlived. Funny isn’t it?
please come back and tell me how OW went.
I love OJ Woman…so much so I sprung for the 4 x 10mL spray set. In an NST Swap, I got OJ Tiare and it ended up surpassing OJ Woman as my favorite in the line. On me, OJ Woman lasts about 6 hours while Tiare lasts just a tad bit shorter.
Wow! You are lucky. I’m glad to hear from a reader that it stays.
I have no problems with OJ perfumes’ longevity: not super-long but doesn’t feel like they are gone in a blink as well. And I like OJ Woman. It’s not my most favorite perfume from the line but #3 or 4.
What arte your top 2 Undina?
Ta’if is an absolute #1. Then Tiare closely followed by Orris Noir, Ormonde Woman and Frangipani. But there isn’t a single perfume in the line that I dislike.
That’s saying something. I bought myself the samples recently but haven’t got them on my skin yet, soon.
I’m kind of bummed that OW doesn’t last longer on you, that’s too bad. But I *am* glad that you like it, and can spray it on clothes. If I ever manage to get to the other half of the world, I’d love to show you how this works on my skin, because it’s a wonder.
Also, Undina’s right, you should definitely give the rest of the line a whirl as well. Nothing else hits that sweet spot for me quite like OW, but they’re really well done.
I currently have the sample set but have not opened them yet so soon we will know how the range translates on me.
Have you been to a Sniffapalooza yet? I think I might be in NYC in May, come hang out!!
