Heya Sniffy Sniffers,
Recently we had a bit of a Launch down at Myer Sydney City of the new niche fragrance counter. It was sniff sniff sniff and of course I got to show everyone that while I adore fragrance my nose is only very average at parsing the contents. Oh well, can’t be perfect at EVERYTHING!!! So I have tried this baby before but on the night I was showing it to everyone and since then I have been COMPLETELY obsessing. Today I had to drop some stuff into Libertine Parfumerie and while there I grabbed myself a bottle of…
Oliban by Keiko Mecheri 2004
Photo Stolen Libertine Parfumerie
Fragrantica gives these featured accords in one line:
Virginia cedar, incense, olibanum, (blonde) tobacco, (Damascene) rose, palisander rosewood, tonka bean, ambergris
I reviewed Oliban not too long ago so if you want to know about notes and progression go check it out there. What I do want you to know about Oliban is that I love it right through its lovely jammy rose, woods and resinous life. It’s a lovely warm, feel good, great big happy hug in a wooden retreat with someone you love, and it’s reciprocated.
Photo Stolen Flickr
Unusual, interesting, old and new, Oliban is gorgeous. Great in our lovely warm spring and just as gorgeous in the middle of winter.

Tara,
Thank you for being part of the APJ family Tara. I love seeing your icon pop up. It looks like a Lempicka painting and it reminds me of my first time in Paris, where I bought a Lempicka poster book, and of spending the day with you in London sniffing stuff, eating and ending up in Hermes.
Always a happy smile.

Unfortunately I think it is the scent itself and not the strength of it that is not working – perhaps my nose was fatigued when I first smelled it, or possibly the tester bottle was aged? I am not sure. I have chalked it up to ‘one of those things’ and I will bring it to trade at the next perfume meet. C’est la vie!

It’s probably only 5 years ago I discovered the online world of perfumistas, maybe a smidge more, after being a solo hoarder of fragrance. So the answer is decidedly no, but when I get bitten by a bug it bites hard and the online world frag is amazing. We are all really lucky to live in a time where it’s possible to communicate your freak with others in the world, I like having a scented world family.

Olibanum is my preferred name for frankincense. removes the religious overtones and gives an air of middle eastern mystery & sophistication. (plus, i just like to watch people go, “huh?”)

I’ll choose Ineke Chemical Bonding, which has a forbidding name but smells to me like a quiet, grassy green, and its base note of vetiver. I follow with Bloglovin.
I blame my poor performance at sniffing out notes on my sensitive nose. Sometimes a loud top note just drowns out the rest of the fragrance for me at first sniff. It’s why I always try things several times before purchasing–those “that’s new” moments. xxx
