Hi Y’all,
A perfume angel sent me this from NYC. I am as flabbergasted as you are. I thought, “What better way to celebrate than do a GIVEAWAY!” I have deliberately not really reviewed what happens through the fragrances life because I want you to experience it first hand, I will say though that it does smell like money……. lots of money
Reckless: Roja Dove 2011
Photo Stolen Fragrantica
Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Bergamot, citruses, aldehydes, tarragon
Heart: Amaryllis, jasmine, violet, geranium, ylang-ylang, rose, peach
Base: Vetiver, musk, sandalwood, oak moss, clove, cinnamon, tonka bean, orris root, castoreum, leather
Roja Dove says at First In Fragrance: Sweet, sparkling, fresh, warm, dry, spicy & sensual
“While reading a book, I saw a woman described as ‘reckless maybe – foolish never’. I imagined how that woman would be: she was a woman who followed her heart, but was no one’s fool. I imagined her in the half-light, wearing a diamond necklace. Her world would be one of uncompromising luxury – her scent reflected her, she smelt expensive. She always got what she wanted; often taking risks to get it”.
I am surprised how much I’m enjoying it. There are reminders of other fragrances but they are done with what feels like reverence. To be honest I thought it would be much less lovely……
Very much in the styles of No 5, Joy and Arpege though I am currently wearing it on one hand and Mitsouko PdT on the other. Mitsouko is so gorgeously abrasive by comparison. Never has she seemed so green and arch to me. While Reckless is the balmy, warm and soapy, very genteel lady sitting primly in cashmere, with her knees pressed very firmly together and wearing very large baroque pearls. After Reckless has had her third dirty martini though………

My perfume from this era has no name. A little rounded bottle from my mum’s beauty case, label long worn off, she doesn’t remember the name. But it’s a warm, floral, spicy scent of excitement, special nights out, parties and laughter.
I follow by email. Thanks x.

You deserve a perfume angel! I’m glad someone sent you a great surprise. I really love Mitsouko. Yes, it’s a little scary at first but it blossoms after 30 minutes. You can’t help but love it. I’ve always loved Chanel no 5 extrait. It’s the one fragrance my husband really loves. I have a tiny bit left from when we first got mat 25 years ago, so I wear it on date nights.

I was particularly impressed with 1709 Farina, one of the oldest colognes and still holding its own. ‘Fresh’ scents are not normally my thing, either!

Hi, I follow by email. so many scents from the past with so many memories but one of my faves is perfumers workshop, tea rose, it reminds me of the 80s shopping in the lane ways of melbourne on my lunch break, that and Ma griffe have lots of 70s/80s memories.

Wow, you know I haven’t tried a whole lot of ‘era’ perfumes, but I was fortunate enough to try l’interdit and while it was far too much of a powerhouse for me, I could really appreciate it’s beauty. I do also really enjoy l’heure bleue! Thanks for this ridiculously generous giveaway (those are some MIGHTY expensive samples/bottles) – I follow via bloglovin. 🙂

My early memories of classic perfumery are of my mother’s scents…Ma Griffe, L’Interdit and Arpege but I have not smelled the vintages for many years.
Perhaps a modern example would be Amouage Gold, which is beautiful too.

Please don’t enter me in the draw – I bought this for my big birthday and just opened it. My first Roja and not my last – this fragrance defines what I love about perfumes in every note! Agree with your assessment of this smells like money – pearls, cashmere, sophistication, and it has you undone very quickly. It undresses you LOL! So happy for you that you received such a treasure! And I love your blog, follow on Facebook and come directly here as well! And I love you, Portia! What a generous giveaway – mwah!

Dearest, Portia,
things are messy these days, but the world keeps turning, doesn’t it?
Never ever dreamed of getting close to some of Roja’s creations, though Unspoken rings in my head, when I think of going to London and visiting Harrod’s…
Reckless would probably be second in row, if I don’t win it here.
Thanks for the chance!

Hi Portia! What a lovely gift! I follow you by email, and facebook 🙂
I’d say my favorite of an era is Shalimar, simply because it was my mothers signature scent. I still remember her letting me wear it for my first dance and how grown up I felt. I’ve got to get a bottle of my own, but I still steal a spritz from her whenever I go over!
thanks for the draw!!

It’s hard to not pick No.5 for a classic. I think some Caron’s would fit the bill too like Nuit de Noel or maybe Nocturnes.

I am registered to follow by email but sadly for some reason the mails never seem to arrive so I have to remember to look at the blog everyday from my favourites as wordpress does not always behave with me either:(?? I waver between 2 old classics and to be honest to myself it has to be Lanvin’s Arpege – so beautiful

Wow congratulations on the new acquisition! Exciting! Thank you so much for the generosity in sharing! I have not experienced many fragrances from the “long past.” Our of the ones I have, I would say Yvresse by Yves St Laurent is my favorite. I know… the 90s were not very long ago, but since I was 3 at the time, I think it counts anyway. Thank you! I follow via email (as in form).

My favorite would I suppose be the original Opium, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for Tabu, which was my first perfume. It was a bottle from my great-grandmother, and I have no idea of its vintage, but it smelled wonderful. I think the first bottle I bought for myself was one of the cello-shaped ones from the ’80s. I follow with Bloglovin.
Congratulations on your Reckless! I love cashmere and pearls, although I don’t think either one of us could pass for prim.
