Goddess? My Perfume Pantheon

Hello Perfume Pals!

The quote of the day:
“There are only two kinds of women – goddesses and doormats.” – Pablo Picasso

When I first came across this remark I felt as if I’d been slapped in the face. Good grief! I don’t consider myself a goddess or a doormat, so why does Picasso’s dated and sensationally ridiculous comment (not unlike a lot of his artwork) continue to bother me? Is the only alternative to divinity abuse? That old, dead artist has me wondering if I need to shed my matronly aspect and do a better job of projecting the goddess within – lest someone I don’t even know steps all over me! Fortunately, the legion of nymphs, sprites and other spirits languishing in my perfume storage has been waiting to transform this dowdy duckling into an ethereal, confident swan. Here are a few of my divinities!

Goddess? My Perfume Pantheon

Goddesses of Love and Seduction:
Tabu by Dana – the old stuff
Guerlain Shalimar (sometimes)
Lucien Lelong vintage Sirocco
Viktoria Minya Hedonist
Guerlain Samsara – the older the better
Dior Hypnotic Poison – any version will work
Rosarium Blends Dom
Mardi Gras by Olympic Orchids
Amouage Interlude Man
DSH Mata Hari

More love goddesses are just lying around, but I only have room to list a few. For me, seduction tends toward dense, heavy and voluptuous fragrances, often with killer sillage and days of longevity.

    • Hi Nik R,
I have to admit that sometimes I can feel (or at least smell) the nymphs that hang out in my garden! Thank you for your goddess fragrance and for joining the draw!

  2. Hi Azar
I think the goddess resides in us all, whatever that other thing is, is purely your own choice. Let’s not choose the doormat!
The perfume that has given me strength recently is Anubis by Papillon, he’s a god but it suits me perfectly this winter.

  3. Love your list, Azar! I guess Feerie is suitably fairy-like, as are lots of pretty florals. For the goddess frags I break out the Chanel No 5, Creed Virgin Island Water and Serge Lutens. Follow by email. 🙂

  4. Great list!
I would choose Sahara Noir by Tom Ford for a formidable desert goddess, Sekhmet.
For a gentle goddess of youth and happiness, Hebe, Rosine’s Une Zest de Rose.

  5. What an exquisite giveaway! I follow by email.

My divine choice would have to be Amouage Jubilation 25 EdP from 2008 (yet to get my hands on the EXTRAIT) – the most magnificent oriental chypre, fit for a queen (or goddess!) and never fails to save the day ❤

  6. Hello Azar,
great list indeed, nice to see you also like Youth Dew Amber Nude as much as me 🙂
Based on the reactions of people around me when I wear it and when I want to receive some kisses in the neck, I’ll say that my godesse perfume is L’Eau Scandaleuse from Anatole Lebreton.

      • Hello Frédéric,
Your suggestions for fragrance usually resonate so well with me. A comment of yours awhile back was the reason I am now using Youth Dew Amber Nude. I will try to track down L’Eau Scandaleuse! Thank you for joining the draw!

  7. I follow by email. When I want to feel like a goddess, it would be vintage Opium. I also felt that way the first time I tried Tom Ford’s original Black Orchid. Thank you for an exciting giveaway.

  8. I feel like a goddess every time I spritz perfume.. just a different goddess comes out each time 😉
Among them are Chergui SL for when I don the khol liner and arabian nights theme, Chanel no.5 (I only wear it to bed..the powdery scent is soothing for me), Fracas makes me feel live a diva goddess, Heeley Cocobello for a sun drenched beach goddess, Lubin Idole..
What a great topic. I’m sure fragrance has that powerful spell on oneself and those around you when it makes you feel like a goddess!

  9. I’ve always love Pomona, goddess of fruit trees and orchards. I’d say Fig Apricot by Fresh is an accurate representation of that. Elegant but playful apricots, peaches, and figs. Actually, anything with figs tends to make me feel like a goddess 🙂 Following via email!

    • Hi Tarena,
Fig Apricot sounds absolutely luscious! BTW – A friend of mine makes the most delicious pie from the figs in her garden, a confection fit for any goddess! 🙂

  10. Hi Azar, I like the categories you have created. It’s truly amazing and I wish I knew all the scents so I could relate even better.
My goddess scent is Amouage Epic. The incense makes me feel directly connected with my higher self and the sillage is divine.

What a great piece this is, love it and I WILL enter by god! Email follower. I love the quote, and I love the updated version of the quote that Divine used in the underground cult film “Pink Flamingos”… “There are two kinds of people in this world…OUR kind of people and A**holes.” LOL, words to live by.

For a sense of floating-off-the-ground divinity, I reach for my vintage Guerlain L’Heure Bleue Extrait. Makes me feel ten feet tall. Xoxo

    • Thank you Robert!

And, by god, L’Heure Bleue is divine and thank you for entering!

Re Pink Flamingos: Divine was, well – divine! Nothing like that movie has ever been made again. The thought of a Pink Flamingo fragrance, though, is a bit scary…

  12. Hi Azar, thank you for sharing your divine fragrances with us. It is always a delight to receive an email telling me that there is a new post up at APJ.

Two fragrances you mentioned are among my favorites. I have often thought of Songes as a scent that basks in a heavenly light. And on a recent vacation I stopped in an Estee Lauder outlet-type store and sniffed YD Amber Nude. It had such power I saw stars, in the best possible way.

Two divine fragrances I will never forget:

Guerlain Mon Precieux Nectar, food of the gods and goddesses, so delicious I want to take a bite. My decant is long gone but I will never forget it.

And Parfums Delrae Amoureuse, a truly magical scent, it takes me to another place, a mystical experience. Relaxing and enveloping, I often drowse and drift away when I wear a dab from my sample vial.

    • Thank you, Tiffanie!

I can’t believe you found YD Amber Nude in a store! Where? I need to go there on vacation!

I have never experienced Mon Precieux Nectar. Is it too late to find some or is it now out of reach for most mere mortals? 🙂
