CHANEL N° 5 L’Eau by Olivier Polge for CHANEL 2016

Post by Portia

Hello APJers,

Release date in Australia is September 15 for the newest CHANEL fragrance. I have been lucky enough to grab some early release carded testers. One for me and three for you. This is my own first test drive.

CHANEL N°5 L’Eau by Olivier Polge

Chanel No 5 L'Eau Chanel FragranticaFragrantica

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:
Top: Lemon, mandarin, orange, neroli, aldehydes
Heart: Rose, ylang-ylang, jasmine
Base: Cedar, white musk

OK everyone, so this is my first wearing. I am notorious for hating things till I get to know them and spend some time with them. Unless they are the rare instant loves.

Imagine a simple cologne from one of the mid priced brands like Body Shop, put a lot of it on, really spray the shit out of it, then have someone walk past you wearing CHANEL No 5. Right. Smell the air as they walk past and CHANEL No 5 is quite noticeable with the citrus herbal top. Smell the air in one minute so there’s the merest trace of CHANEL No 5 and still some citrus. Smell again in one minute and you are left with a lightly citrus and floral white musk fragrance. In 5 minutes more you are left with musk and you smell like your laundry. Now, for every minute you just did that multiply by 10 minutes and that’s basically how CHANEL No 5 L’Eau wore for me.

Olivier Polge has created CHANEL NO 5 for people who hate to smell CHANEL No 5. It’s not bad. It’s quite pretty and beautifully blended but it doesn’t have my heart singing either. It smells like a cologne and wears like one too. CHANEL No 5 L’Eau could come from the Guerlain Aqua Allegoria line, except the top is reminiscent of CHANEL No 5.

It’s going to be a huge hit.

  1. ‘It’s going to be a huge hit’. Haha! I bet it is too. Chanel No 5 is my fave perfume, so I am very curious about this. (Laundry? Oh dear.) Thank you for the giveaway, Portia. I follow by email. 🙂

  2. via email and FB
I never met a Chanel that I liked and still am trying; so, I want to try ones I’ve never sniffed in the hope that I fall in love.

  3. Ok…I’ll bite. I’m terribly curious. I think I am going to like this one–CN5 is a bit much for me, but this sounds like a starter CN5 that might lead me to like the original more. I follow by e-mail. Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  4. I’m not a fan of Chanel No 5 so I have hopes that I could like the L’Eau. Let’s see…and thanks for the giveaway.
My favourite Chanels are No 19 the vintage one and Bel Respiro from the newer ones.
    I follow APJ by email.

  5. Oh, this sounds awful. My favorite Chanel is Coco (just), and then of course the original Chanel no. 5. I have my Channel no. 5 from late 80s, so still a good formulation! I’m probably missing a few other Chanels somewhere, but I love Coco. I will pass on this.

  6. I follow APJ via email (and also sometimes FB). I’m actually looking forward to trying this. I love Eau Premiere, and No. 5 body lotion, but my favorite is probably 1932. Or maybe Cologne. I also like Jersey…and Bois des Iles…yes, I’m a fangirl. I admit it.

  7. I think CHANEL N°5 L’Eau is somewhat like CHANEL N°5 L’Eau Premiere, which I have.
My favorite from Chanel are: Chanel No 5 Cologne(missing now), Antaeus, Chanel Pour Monsieur, Chanel Egoiste, Chanel No 5 EDT, Coco EDT and Coco Noir.
    Thanks for the giveaway.
I follow on both but prefer email.

  8. I can’t choose a favorite Chanel, unless you allow a tie between No. 5 (vintage-ish EDT for preference, but I’m not that picky), Cuir de Russie, 31 Rue Cambon, and Pour Monsiour. I’m also a Coromandel fan and wouldn’t refuse a bottle of mid-nineties Coco EDP or some No. 19.
I’m hoping to like this new one and plan to give it a good solid try. I follow via RSS.

  9. Oh dear. This doesn’t sound very promising, but thanks for the opportunity to try it. My heart will always belong to Coco. I have never found another Chanel I like better. I follow via email.

  10. I follow by e mail, facebook and twitter and my current favourite and want is Chanel Beige.I am currently using Chistalle Au Vert which is also very nice but not long lasting enough.

  11. I follow by email. I like Coromandel from Chanel. I’d like to try Coco and Coco Noir, as I’ve just sniffed them at a counter. Thanks for the giveaway.

  12. My faves remain #22, Cristalle, and Coco 🙂 I will happily look towards to trying any scent from this house…sorry this Eau did not agree w/ you! We follow a la blog, e-mail, and FB 🙂 THANK YOU again!!

  13. My favorite is Bois des Iles, and I follow my email. I don’t really get what is so great about No.5, so I am hoping that the L’Eau will help ease me into things 🙂 Thank you!

  14. My favorite Chanels are arguably 31 Rue Cambon and Cuir de Russie and I got both this year. But I also have tremendous respect for vintage Chanel 5, esp., in eau de cologne formula from 1960s and before. I follow APJ by email and FB.

  15. I sampled this when my lovely Chanel SA had a sneaky early bottle some weeks ago. The result? I bought a brand new bottle. Of proper No.5.

(I think your description is scarily accurate, as is your prediction of it’s inevitable huge success.)

  16. My favourite Chanel is definitely no 19, and I’d love to try it in the vintage parfum formulation. Misia’s also on my want-to-try list too.

Thanks for the draw, Portia. I follow by email 🙂

  17. I’m extremely curious to try this one: Chanel No 5 doesn’t work for me, and I do not expect this one will but I’m curious.

DNEM: I definitely can wait until it appears in the nearest store.
