Tobacco Nuit by Jerome Epinette for Atelier Cologne 2016

Hiya Fragrant Friends,

My mates at Libertine Parfumerie sent me a bunch of samples recently. One of the scents I really liked a lot is Tobacco Nuit. Don’t forget, we Aussies get FREE Australian Shipping from the Libertine crew and they throw in generous samples.

Tobacco Nuit by Jerome Epinette

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top:  Italian clementine, Coriander, Cumin
Heart: Labdanum, Tobacco blossom, Uzbek incense
Base: Atlas cedar, Brazilian tonka bean, Indonesian patchouli

Bittersweet citrus smoothed by soft waves of coriander and labdanum wash out of the opening. The cumin plays a very background role, merely adding a worn-in feeling rather than a sweaty jock strap. Tobacco Nuit smells extremely luxurious and balmy. Rich, dark and woody with chocolate facets and resinous sweet cool glassiness. I am reminded of the way Mona di Orio created perfumes, there is a rich, seamless haughty arrogance to Tobacco Nuit that has me smiling and enjoying it’s grandness. I can see it becoming a firm favourite of the 21st century dandies, should they ever get to try it.

I’m really surprised that there is no honey mentioned in the note list but it may be the way that the tobacco, patchouli, tonka and labdanum combine. Whatever it is Tobacco Nuit feels thick, lustrous and buffed to a high sheen.

Through the heart I can feel the scent drying out and becoming more woodsy, and warmer. Like sitting in a cold room where someone lights a fire. That moment when the big logs are alight and all the kindling gone, suddenly there is this clean warmth and the room smells amazing.

Longevity is excellent, better than many EdPs, and even after a bath I have remnants of Tobacco Nuit, just the amberish warmth of utter dry down. Gorgeous from start to finish.

  1. I have a number of Atelier minis but the two full bottles that I have are Oud Saphir and Jasmine Angelique. I just wished they lasted longer for the price.

    • Hey Gina,
What a shame they’re not lasting on you.
This one will last and last on me. I wonder if it will for you.
Did you try the Rose antonym? that one lasts forever on me too.

  2. I use Atelier colognes like Grand Neroli, Cédrat Enivrant or Bergamote Soleil a lot in summer, and in winter I love to layer Vanille Insensée and Ambre Nue. I loved Tobacco Nuit when I first tested it. Now you’ve made me want to o back and try it again.

  3. I have tried a large number of their fragrances, but the only one I’ve liked at all was Bois Blonds. And even that fragrance I didn’t love enough to buy a FB. I don’t know if it’s that I’m not a big fan of colognes or citrus, or that a lot of them don’t last very long on me, but I just haven’t found any I love in this line. However this one sounds lovely, so it may be worth it to try again, right? 🙂

    • Hi Kandice,
Not every house is for everyone.
Another one that lasts really well on me is Trefle Pur, did you try that?

      • I can’t remember if I tried that one or not, but it rings a bell. I’ll have to go through my samples and see if I have it. It’s worth another shot if I do 🙂

  4. I went directly to the Atelier site and ordered their discovery set. Many, many samples later (30+ generous), I picked six that were FB for me. There are two others I’d like to get. One of the FBs is Tobacco Nuit–just my thing. And yes it does have that sweet honey tobacco quality. I wound up with a few of their citruses, but also Blanche Immortelle, Poivre Electrique, and Oud Saphir. Oud Saphir lasts forever on me, and the others hang around a good while, but OS has pretty huge silage and longevity. None of the citruses last very long, but then I just use a heavy hand with them. This post just reminded me to pull them out…

    • Hi there Shiva-woman,
What a sensational idea. I was unaware they had such a good sample regime.
      Thanks for the heads up.

  5. I am finding I am more drawn to tobacco scents over the cooler months than the traditional orientals I’ve usually worn. There is a deeply comforting feeling I get and it is eluding me as to why. Part of the appeal may be that smoking, for those who smoke, is a time to be still and relax for a moment, and wearing tobaccos for me is somewhat calming subconsciously. That will take more pondering upon.

  6. I have had a limited success with this brand. I had a sample of Rose Annonomye. {spelling wrong, apologies}, but after about 3 hours I wanted to scrub it off!!!! I became ‘annoyed’ with it. I have a sample of something named Polemo? And the California something, which I shall try in Summer
