Atelier des Ors: Dreaming while Sampling

Hey there APJ! How are you all doing?

I feel as if I have been bitten in the bum by a nasty stress bug. I cannot shake the feeling of constant stress and to be quite frank with you I am exhausted. Storms and hospital visits are the culprits this time around and all I want is a break and of course a vacation in the sun and warmth would be ideal.

As I cannot go on vacation, I turned to my staples such as Shalimar and Bois d’Argent for some much needed comfort to get through the day. But once at home I reached into my samples for some dreamy escapism.

A while ago Megan in St Maxime and PR person for Atelier des Ors sent me a sample set of the Atelier des Ors line. I tried them quickly in the fall and fell hard for Iris Fauve which I got for Christmas. After holding the bottle in my hand and seeing the effect of the gold in the perfume (a light shimmer on the skin), I am finally sitting down and dreaming of my next get away.

Atelier des Ors: Dreaming while Sampling

Lune Feline Atelier des OrsFragrantica

Lune Feline by Atelier des Ors 2015

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Cinnamon, Cardamom, Pink pepper
Heart: Cypriol, Cedarwood, Styrax, Cachalox, Wolfwood
Base: Tahitian vanilla absolute, Peru balsam, Musk

I love gourmand perfumes and Lune Feline has an interesting twist for me. It opens with the aroma of a freshly cracked green cardamom pod which I adore. Cardamom is a staple spice in my kitchen, for both sweet and savoury foods. The spices are at the front and center with the cardamom taking the spotlight with a light dusting of cinnamon. It does not veer directly into a sweet gourmand. It leaves me sniffing, wondering what is coming next. At some point I am craving a black tea with fresh crushed cardamom pods steeping with a touch of milk. Just when I think it will remain a milky frothy spice drink, the woodier side comes into play.

One of my favorite notes of all is ambergris giving a composition a warm animalic earthy undertone that takes my breath away. Well, just as the woods come into play with the continuing presence of cardamom, ambergris is in the deep background begging me to smell more deeply. The vanilla is Lune Feline is not cloying – it is rich, less sweet almost floral, hinting at a possible sweet treat. It is an adult gourmand fit for both men and women.

Rose Omeyyade Atelier des Ors FragranticaFragrantica

Rose Omeyyade by Atelier des Ors 2015

Parfumo gives these featured accords:
Top: Pink pepper, Rosebud, Raspberry
Heart: Patchouli, Gaiac wood, Brown sugar
Base: Sandalwood, Oud, Amber

Rose and oud perfumes are plentiful and I almost passed this from reading the notes. Silly isn’t it?! Rose Omeyyade opens with a bowlful of fresh ripe raspberries covered in fresh rose petals, but rose petals that actually smell of rose. The raspberries are plump, red, juicy and have a light coating of sugar to bring out the flavor. The rose is deep ruby red with velvet petals keeping me coming back for more. The florals are exquisite mixing with the raspberries and patchouli. I am already in awe and keep wanting the opening to last longer. But then, the light touch of oud brings out the beauty even more in the dry down. This is a rose for elegant and casual days, warm and cool temperatures, men and women. It will not disappoint.

  1. Hey Sandra,
Isn’t Atelier des Ors deluxe? The bottles, the fragrance, it all feels ultra plush to me.

    • Hi Jackie b,
Iris Fauve is a favorite right now too. I need more time with Cuir Sacre – do you find it works better in warmer or cooler temps?

  2. Hey Sandra!
    Hope you feel brighter soon.
Atelier des Ors are an example of a brand who are doing luxury right. I love raspberry notes in perfume and wish there were more of them. Liqueur Charnelle comes to mind as does Rouge Avignon – both by Pierre Guillaume funnily enough.

    • Dear Tara, the sun is out this week and gosh do I love it! We had the juiciest and sweetest raspberries the other day – love them. Rouge Avignon is great and will give Liqueur Charnelle a try. Hope you are well.

  3. I haven’t tried any of this line, but both of these sound wonderful. I love raspberry notes but they can be difficult to find in perfume. Is the rose very heavy in this one though? Most rose perfumes give me a terrible headache. Thanks for the reviews and for reminding me of this line that I still need to sample.

    • Hi Kandice, I hope you can sample this line very soon. Definitely worth a try. The rose is Rose Omeyyade is definitely there. I find it a lovely deep rose, not sour or screechy which I find with many rose centered perfumes.

  4. Haven’t tried any of Atelier des Ors perfumes but I sure want to.
I had a bottle of Escada’s Magnetism, – I was going to write “Optimism”, this name would suit it so well! It’s a bright raspberry scent which I wore in my twenties. Might have to get some of it again 🙂

  5. Hello Sandra. No I’ve never tried this range…. in fact I’ve not ever heard of this brand. Oh my though…..those bottles are gorgeous…..
I’m very sad to read of your stress and hope that it dissipates soon. I am relieved of stress little if I place a hot pack on my tummy.

  6. Those bottles are gorgeous but I have never tried any from this line. I have been purchasing and collecting the Escada Limited Edition summer fragrances since 1994 so I am sure amongst that collection there are plenty with raspberry in them 🙂 Cardamom I love to add to my homemade body oils…I use whole pods and they scent the oils to perfection.

    • Hi chez Marzipan, OMG – body oils scented with cardamom?! You just made my heart beat a little bit faster. I bet they are wonderful. Great collection of the Escada summer limited edition perfumes – I have always liked them.

  7. I have several samples of theirs around, and I think I loved one, but can’t remember which! Your review is going to force me to search…a heroic effort to find the cardamom. I love love love that spicy note in perfume, one of my favorites. I’m also a huge fan of roses so long as they are complex and not soliflore scents. I too am stressed out and right before I read your review, I had spritzed some vintage Shalimar on me and around my home office so I’m sitting in clouds of Shalimar. It makes me feel less chaotic. Hope life starts to smooth out. I can honestly say we’d like your storms and rain out here in California. We had a 73 degree day in the central valley and foothills, and I’m worried about the inevitable fire season ahead.

    • Hi Shiva-woman, I hope you are successful in your search. So sorry to hear of your stress as well. Vintage Shalimar is such a wonderful way to wrap yourself up in a cloak of armour. I have been using mine as well this week and it really does help. Fingers crossed that you get some rains soon and continually during the season.

  8. Lipstick rose has a wonderful raspberry in the background. One of my favorites. I love cardamom. A restaurant in our town sells its own orange blossom/cardamom candles – they were definitely on my Christmas list 🙂

  9. Hello! Loved this piece Sandra and that you like the perfumes too. You know I do but obviously am a bit biased but it was one of the brands that caught my eye when I went to my first Esxence. By the way is anyone here going this year? Iw ill be there mostly with Atelier Des Ors so it would be great to meet some of you.

Also for those who like cardamom – I have put a video on the Atelier Des Ors FB page on this lively green material. So take a look.

  10. The entire range is lovely. I am not an iris fan, but their take on iris is stunning. I absolutely love Lune Feline. The mix of balsam and cardamom is just out there. Nothing quite like it. I do wish the bottles were in smaller sizes, though.
