SOTD 5 March – 11 March 2018

Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 5 March – 11 March 2018

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. Testing Exultant…reads very dry and masculine on my skin.

Later I will touch up with St. Clair Scents First Cut because lord only knows I need me some sunshine, honeyed hay and smoooooth lavender about now. My place of employment has been closed since Friday due to lack of power, downed trees and overall dangerous conditions due to the blizzard. Some folks in my area have been out of power since Friday and are not expecting a return until Tuesday….just in time for the next storm which arrives Tuesday night into Thursday morning….talk about March roaring like a lion…..First Cut will mentally put me in a Spring frame of mind 🙂

    • I have been a long-time lover of most of the Chanels; however, No 22 has always had a special place in my heart. I’ve never sampled vintage, my bottle is from the early 2000s. It is heavenly! I haven’t worn this fragrance in awhile; today will be the day!

  2. Hi APJs, it’s a chilly morning here. I thought some of my sort of vintage Opium in the limited edition bottle would go great with my red leopard print wrap dress…come to find my son has been poaching it…and the sprayer is trying to jam. I only wear it a few times a year. I thought that bottle might last my lifetime. Now it feels like there’s about 10 ml left. Mild panic has ensued. When I found out that sporty 16 year old boys actually run the fragrance market of the US via Brazil I should have bought him his own bottle! At least he always smells great…

  3. Last drops of Roja Dove Amber Aoud tonight. Obviously only a sample given the price!!
Rich and animalic, but surprisingly not really long lasting.

    • WOW! How annoying to pay all that money and have your fragrance last so short a time. My body gets that with most of Jo Malone sadly.

  5. Trialling Bas de soie. It is good but I’m kinda glad that I haven’t liked it enough to crave for more than my sample. A real perfumista should learn how to choose their battles, right? 🙂

    Like

      • I’ve read reviews where people compared Bas de soie to a polyethylene bag 🙂 Actually, I quite like it but it’s similar to Chanel 19 sans the hyacinth note, and I already own a bottle of N. 19.

    • LOVE Bas de soie Diana,
Can completely understand you not needing it but it’s a perfect whisper of fragrance.

  6. I am wearing Kenzo UFO. For a bottle that is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, the scent is rather forgettable. Its is the plain benzoin-focused drydown so common in many oriental and gourmand perfumes.

  7. Bel Respiro EdP for me today. That big bold swoon-worthy herbal galbanum opening is gorgeous but it settles enough to be office friendly. Gotta get stuff done today.

  8. Happiness all round here as two lots of perfume surprises in the letter box last night. My STC order and my Fort & Manle discovery set. WOW! I can see why this brand gets the love and i can totally get why Charlatan is a favourite here. I ripped open the packet (the packaging and style is fantastic) in the car and from one spray on my hand i could tell straight away this is a Winner! it was like Montale, Mancera and CdG Incenses all in one with a splash of amber. So amazing!
This morning i picked Maduro – I’ve used all my sample as initial spray is wicked – a little sweet, a little smokey, a little amber and woody but its very light and soft on me. Which is a shame as this is super pretty and warm. DId do small sprays of Harlem Rose and Amber Absolutely – both were lovely, and smooth. Looking forward to trying the rest.

  9. Tonight I’m sampling from my mail call- St Clair Scents First Cut – enabler pin to Marzipan for this one. So far I like. And my big win of the day, snagged a 100ml bottle of Atelier Pomelo Paradis on a local Facebook “sell your stuff” group for $20. Was an unloved gift, apparently. I felt slightly guilty picking it up from the porch and leaving my cash in the door slot…. it’s not my favorite Atelier but the price couldn’t be beat.

  10. Hi All APJers….Well I FINALLY had a decent sleep….so relived.
On Monday , yesterday I was surrounded by hubby’s YSL M7 Oud Absolu, so didn’t wear anything until late afternoon.
I received Portia’s Winners package….Glorious. late at night, I used some of the Ombre de Hyacinth….pretty, but to my nose not dissimilar to Bluebell by Penhaligon’s.
This morning I tried One Seed’s Symphony…..Yuckko…a scrubber to me…. Will shower soon and apply the sample of Sables.

  12. Going a round wirh SL Boxeuse–not the best, but not the worst of SL. Picked it randomly and went for it. I’m enjoying the lemony brisk topnote followed immediately by tart plum and leathery woods, then wine-soaked fruits now as I drift off to sleep. This is still better than loads of new frags on the market, and still decidedly SL. This is easy to wear.

My idle hands knit two scarves and one hat because my work building is still closed due to lack of water , heat and live electric wires on the road.

This morning I tested Acqua Sextus….now I am in Gardner’s Gloves…the best tomato leaf out there IMHO.

Tonight comes another storm which will dump another foot of snow…if y’all don’t hear from me again it will be because I lost power and/or internet (let’s cross our fingers that doesn’t happen!!)

  16. Fort & Manle Harem Rose today from my sample. Absolutely beautiful. Super nervous as i dont think its going to last for long on me. Trying to use sparingly and adding a spritz now and then when no one watching. Its really lovely – vanilla, rose and amber.
Saffysihere – you have great taste!

I tried a couple of the others from the set last night – couple of them are full on and a little weird for me! Will write them up later when time permits!

    • I saw that question Francesca.
You’ve now inspired a triple spritz of Caron l’Accord 119 because I have never worn mine yet. Originally drained a 5ml decant, saw the bottle for a very good price, bought it, ignored it. I may even have to open it.

  23. Montale day here! Gone a little crazy (or is that clumsy – i’ve dropped so many things this morning – my breakfast, my sample vial of Montale, keys and my raspberries for snack time & i left my glasses at home – doh!) Put on all my Montale Red aoud sample this morning – its really good. Like Black Oud but softer and sweeter. Then because i know it wont last all day i’ve added Montale Arabians on left arm and then Montale Louban on the right. Arabians is good – cardamon and leather. Louban with a touch of rose and violet. I should stop ordering Montale but we seem to like each other!! To my APF family – hope its a good day for you xo

  38. I am still really enjoying my rather new perfumes, Ambre Nuit and Iris 39. I think I might havve over-applied scent on Thursday morning (6 small sprays of Iris 39), but at least that made the scent last for nearly 8 hours, impressive!

Trying to relax and fight migraines and tension headache this week, so the smooth Ambre Nuit was perfeect today.Work has been too busy for some weeks and it is not likely to get much better in spring either.

Other than that, have enjoyed baked egg plant (aubergine) and other vegan food, including a new-to-me store-bought vegan aioli. Good thing it exists (I cannot have eggs), but I guess I could have made it better myself, with more garlic certainly! No energy for baking, so I guess I will og without cake at my young nephew’s birthday tomorrow (Sunday).

      • Not sure…my Sephora is REALLY small so they don’t have the offerings that the Manhattan NY Sephora does…I will see if they have the Iris Rebelle and maybe give that one a whirl….I would love it if they carried the Berdoues as I haven’t sampled the three newer ones…and I also saw online that they are carrying some Kilians but I highly doubt that my Sephora will have them…I don’t exactly live in a high end exclusive neighborhood so the level of niche isn’t exactly there….each Sephora pretty much stocks what it sells……

        Like

      • So I tried the Atelier Iris Rebelle on skin…very dry rooty iris. Gabrielle on one hand (sweet) the Mugler in the green bottle, Aura?, on the other (also sweet but nutty and minty) and on paper the eau de Merveilles Bleue….nothing that required a full bottle purchase…money saved 🙂

  41. Testing samples of Neandertal Light and Neandertal Dark edp today (a lovely surprise gift from a friend). They are really interesting–but, in this first perhaps overcautious try at least, very short lived on my cold-skinned wrists. Larger doses next time. I want to smell more of these, and the light and air and earth, and sense of place that seems to live inside them.

I’ve been wanting to try them since reading http://www.ascentofelegance.com/2015/11/between-flinted-spoor-sky-neandertal-by.html on their initial release, but soon they will be out as EDP rather than perfume.
