Hi APJ,

A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.

You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.

SOTD 1.10 – 7.10.2018

You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.

Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.

Go To It Crew.

  1. It has been freezing at night where I live and snow is predicted for next week. I have brought out the box of vanillas to cheer me up. Today it is FSSA “Vaniglia del Madagascar”.

        • Laziness? I get that. Sometimes it’s just too much. Standing in front of your collection deciding what you’re in the mood for. Sometimes spray and go just works. Less mental energy required. I’m thinking of trying this with the vintage Shalimars I bought. I’m really loving it and it always feels just right.

          • OOO I am so glad that you are enjoying your vintage Shalimars!!! Sometimes having the familiar over and over again is just comforting and easy….as you said it “feels just right”.

          • You’re right. If I had to choose every day among all the perfumes I have, I think I’d miss my life completely. I usually have some seasonal favorites in a cluster and I only look in that direction.
So, you got used to your vintage Shalimars?

  2. SOT business trip – Tiempe Passate, Antonia’s Flowers. It’s a beautiful creamy tangerine and I haven’t worn it since last winter. I couldn’t get enough of it today and during the meeting I noticed that I was paying more attention to the smell of the perfume than on what I was saying. No one noticed, good for me.

  3. The magnificent, fierce and lovely Rozy VdP until it got saunaed and showered away after lifting.

Kiste this evening, which is feeling lush and indulgent. The first few minutes are sometimes just too boozy for my taste–a double dose of Drambuie–but it relaxes into a rich, smooth glow.

      • It’s gorgeous, and surprisingly easy… but it is *not* a morning scent. It’s lovely on warm skin, and will be interesting to see how it fares in colder weather. I’m developing a bit of a dangerous fascination with Slumberhouse. Norne amazes me.

        • Interesting your comment about ‘morning scent’. I have a really hard time smelling most of my perfumes when applied to early. Perhaps I’ve not warmed up enough. I certainly don’t have any issues when applied later in the afternoon or evening. Food for thought, Crikey

  4. My Eau Duelle/Rose de Cassis failed to materialize. I hopped on my bike and pedalled furiously along the lakeshore. Because now I can with my hip feeling better. Ducked into the gym after. Came home, showered and went to vote. I wore extravagant amounts of Shalimar while I exercised my rights. We have a provincial election happening today. There were nine possible choices on the ballot. Including the Marxist-Leninist Party 😳. In reality it’s a three way contest. The six others don’t stand a chance.

  5. Tonight I will go with either vintage Femme or vintage Dioressence (or maybe both!)…these were the minis that were sent to me by a kind perfumista. She had thought the Femme might be a bit off but to my nose it’s just the top notes which is exactly what I would expect. The drydown is gorgeous.

  7. Brigitte- I done it!

Chergui 8 sprays. I got two compliments. Smells amazing. Blends beautifully with all the smells in the cafe. Yet stands out. Gosh, I love Chergui. 😍
I should get another backup (backups don’t count as spends, right?)

  8. Vintage Shalimar perfume. I’ve been prolifically posting away. Some real pearls of wisdom 🤓 Then I realized I was still on last week’s SOTD 😜. Sometimes I wonder how I even manage to get dressed. Anyhow, I’m sure I’ve bumped last week’s number of posts into the millions. I wonder what Cassie’s protocol/directive is when this happens 🧐

  9. Chanel Pour Monsieur this morning. Love it, but the modern version has little to no lasting power. I probably shouldn’t go wandering off on a hunt for a bottle of the vintage. Maybe I need to try the new again. Lovely Aedes Iris Nazarena this afternoon. And a long walk from the centre of town on a gorgeous sunny but blustery early evening.

  10. trialling my Le Labo The Noir 29 from my sample set today. Notes says black pepper, amber and black rose. Its got a sweetness and a little musk to it. See how it’s going in a few hours. Really hoping it will survive as I wore all my Le Labo Rose sample Saturday and found it rather disappointing.

    Like

    • Oh that’s too bad. I think the Le Labos are hit or miss. I did have a few samples and tried them out but don’t remember which ones and none made it to my full bottle list which is just as well as they are costly.

Last night wore a few of my neglected Phlurs -Greylocke …the most delicious vetiver, Moab….delicious cinnamon goodness, and Hepcat…powdery oud which Marcella might like…remind me a lot of Ineke’s Field Notes from Paris which I might spray on my shirt this morning since I left Reglisse at work yesterday….I will top it off with Reglisse once I get in.

          • That’s funny Neva 😆 I looked these guys up Brigette, soon as I read cinnamon and oud I was interested. But alas, they don’t ship to oz. then I googled Australian natural perfumes and the few that looked good – all their sample sets were sold out. Not to be.

          • Ha Neva!

Melanie-that’s too bad. I think Sephora carries them now but not sure if there is a Sephora that is in Oz or that ships to Oz. They are all well done and reasonable priced.

          • Are we talking about PG Wodehouse? He’s one of my favourite authors, I’ve read (and reread countless times) every novel of his I could get my hands on. The Mating Season from his Jeeves and Wooster series might be a good start, and my personal favourite is Summer Moonshine.

            Like

          • Ah, Diana, my favourite is “Summer Lightning”. And “Thank You, Jeeves” is probably the place to start with the Jeeves and Wooster novels–right at the beginning! Heavy Weather is one of the very best and is a great follow up to Summer Lightning.

  12. Vintage Shalimar perfume. Day two of heavy cloud cover over here. I can feel my cranky meter rising.
Hepcat? A powdery Oud. Worth investigation for the name alone.
Although Neva has advised me that I can safely shun oud without jeopardizing my status as a bona fide perfumista. So the pressure is off, no need for me to learn to love oud 🙂

SO a package arrived from my beach loving friend and I now have Sel Marine and Mr. Hulot’s Holiday in decants as well as a sample of Bottega Venetta Eau Legere (gorgeous stuff which reminds me of something from my distant past…does any vintage lover out there know?) and three minis that are full of juice!!! So I might have to take a break from my Reglisse..or not…maybe I can do both????

I was diagnosed with shingles by the third doctor I saw. It hurts and the rash is under my foot, so very unfortunate that the diagnosis came late, I missed the 72 hrs window where anti-viral medication would have been an option.

Tried Amouage Opus VIII from a sample. This one is nearly only incense to my nose, no floral. It just does not open up and develop much on my skin. The soft dry down, very close to skin was the best part.

  19. SOTD Chypre Charnel by Molinard. This one’s a really good modern chypre – rich, elegant and sensual. You can smell patchouli all the way. I feel ready for the day’s challenges.

    Like

    • This sounds lovely. I love a good patchouli.
the molinards have been on my radar for a while. I owned Molinard de Molinard years ago and loved it. And then there was another Molinard that was supposed to be the original Angel (it was Thierry Mugler’s mother’s signature scent) the name escapes me at the moment but I had a decant of it six years ago and it was good. It’s the current Molinards that I have been eyeballing..the single note ones…like Musc, Amber and Patchouli. Over the years they have changed the bottles but the current ones that sell massively discounted online are in a purple bottle…
Good luck with facing the day!!!

      • Thierry’s mum wore Nirmala. I’ve got a sample of the modern formula, it’s lovely but way too fruity for my taste (I don’t usually care much for fruit in my perfumes). I do get the connection between it and Angel.

      • I have visited the House of Molinard in Grasse this summer. They’re well organised and I’ve really enjoyed the guided tour. Afterwards I’ve spent some time in their shop but I didn’t have enough time to try out everything. I bought the chypre, because I love chypres and a Neroli EdP for my mum and another EdT travel spray for myself. All is high quality stuff.

I left my bottle of Reglisse at work because when I looked at it upside down yesterday it looks like I am almost at the halfway mark which is ridiculous (or maybe not as it has been keeping me sane at work scenting my office, my clothes and me and making me happy)

i might test that Omnia today….I think it is the Cristalline one based on the look of the bottle and from what I read of the notes. It smells like freesia to me but that is not listed as a note but it has this clean, sharp. floral vibe that I associate with freesia…or maybe my nose is just wonky-LOL!

For my very thrilling day of not going out on the planned walk (it’s windy as hell), and instead lolling about with the floof cat, while little cat chatters on the windowsill and gets over excited mistaking blowing leaves for small creatures. I might stir myself enough to make a pot of tea and read something vaguely study related. Or maybe not.

    Like

    • Nah, don’t bother with the study stuff. It would be more entertaining to watch little puss being silly. Is C de R really leathery? I want a full on leather that smells like it just came from the tannery but it has so far eluded me. It’s windy here too and now wet as well🙄

      Like

      • I think you should probably have a sniff of Zoologist’s Rhinocerous–that’s quite a beastly aromatic leather. CdR has a softening layer of aldehydes and florals, and the older ones are much deeper on the leather than the newer ones–but it’s more warm saddle leather than raw tannery. What do you make of Knize 10? Too elegant? I thought LM’s Hard Leather was annoyingly harsh–not in terms of leatheriness but rough overdosed synthetics.

        Like

      • Oh. Have you ever tried Bandit? Mean green and new leather. Not a soft suedey handbag. Or Rien, the Etat Libre de wotsit scent? Incense leather, much dryer than the sweeter, floral leathers above.
