Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is you’ll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 31.12.2018 – 6.1.2019
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

I sprayed many different ones since I am moving so was taping the boxes. But the one that moved me most and which i sprayed for the first time was Ted Lapidus Envol. It is beautiful and one-of-a-kind. It has that timeless feel, too that despite being old, it does not feel as aged as some from 80s and 90s feel even if they are very beautiful creations.

Note: if anyone is tempted to try Lapidus Envol, never ever buy any listing with edp. Those edp listings are fake because envol was never released in EDP. I think those fake edps were most probably manufactured and sold in Russia/former Russian states.

Yes yes! I know those lilies. But this fragrance isn’t anything like that-LOL! and it’s so potent that I decanted into a sample vial and swipe on my wrist once instead of spray. Then later if I want to mix it up with anything else I can spray my neck with something else (I think today I will start to work on my decant of Black) but still sniff my wrist of Casablanca all day long. I need to drink more teabag tea. I love tea but always loose leaf. Now I *need* the used teabags for my art. So I bought some boxes – 200 teabags! 🤩 And I ply everyone with tea- can I make you a cuppa, Marcella?
Also I’m giving up coffee to support my husband who is trying to cut it out.

Morning all. I’m a lazy ass, still lying in bed. Have to shift myself now. Last day in Stuttgart, we go back this evening. It has been a rollicking few days here, had so much fun. NYE was incredibly good, early dinner and walked to the main square where everyone was letting off fireworks. It was a bit bonkers. We had champagne with us to start the year in style. On the way back we found a bar with music so we just had to go in. Danced ourselves silly, we got everyone up on the floor.
Today it will be either Tauer or some of hubby’s MR. Right, I’m getting up!

A rare beast today, from an op shop find: Floris Cefiro Gentleman’s Cologne. I’ve seen write-uops of this as a unisex scent, but no record of a bottle marked “Cefiro Gentleman’s Cologne”. It’s a little bottle with a waist, and I’me guessing that it goes back to the launch era, but that they united the product lines at some point. I’m guessing that it’s no different to Cefiro, and it smelt like that – a brief citrusy opening but more a classic barbershop scent than a summery EdC.

SOTDay 3 of detox – Masque Milano Terralba, just like Jyotsna suggested and I sprayed myself on my way in a perfumery. It’s a beauty!
Day 3 was like day 1 – a heavenly massage, breathing exercises, yoga and a nice lunch at their restaurant. I’m getting used to no coffee and washing my hair all the time. It’s friday evening so I’m not planing on staying at home. First a nice chat with a good girlfriend and then a visit to a pub with live funky music. My daugther will join us with her friends. SOTevening – Zoologist Camel, spicy and not too sweet. It’s very cold outside and I need something cozy to wrap me up.

Cool change arrived around 6pm last night, after the temperature hit 42. We are now back to something like bearable, with a forecast top of 28.
Today I’m wearing L’Artisan Seville a l’Aube. I think this is the first niche perfume that I ever bought a FB of. I went to one of those Libertine colour wheel classes and they used this as their example of Oriental Floral. I bought a bottle of it and of Keiko Mecheri Genie des Bois. The Keiko fell by the wayside, but this one remains a favourite.

It is a beautiful perfume indeed. Glad that the weather has changed for the better.

A little surprised to hear how they categorised Seville a l’Aube. It’s a favorite of mine, even if some green top notes have faded from my bottle.
Up here in Scandinavia we would call 28 degrees a very warm summer’s day and Seville would not be my first choice. That perfume is so lovely in the cool spring weather and even holds up well in real snowy weather.

AWOL this week because languishing in my bed. Not in a fun way. Knocked sideways with something that was making the doctor pull those “well, sometimes we just don’t know, maybe be virus?” faces. But measles-style spots are *not* an attractive look. Starting to get better now, but, ugh.
Tried a few reassuring scents like Avignon and Bois d’argent and a few attempts at brighter more cheerful things like Dilettante. My usually-adored PoaL was a badly thought out scrubber, with one spritz overwhelming me.

will continue to test the Rag & Bone I have in the basement…today will be Neroli on one wrist and Rose on the other.
LikeLike
OK so I accidentally sprayed on Oud instead of Rose and then just decided to test whatever was left so I included Oddity as well in the mix. They all don’t seem to be true to their name (except the Rose which smells like tea rose) and I am wondering if this is like a Le Labo thing (cause none of them smell as their names imply…at least not what I know these notes to smell like in essential oil format). The base of Cypress, Amber and Oddity all dry down to what smells like myrrh essential oil (that pungent medicinal smell which I happen to love). Oud, to my wonky nose, smells of tonka bean and vanilla and nothing like real agarwood e.o…..I will put these to the side as they are tiny travel sprays and I don’t anticipate that they will evaporate any time soon…may give them a whirl again in warmer weather.
LikeLike
Lucky you with the oud. I wish I could feel like you about it. Or maybe not. I’m afraid I’d find even more perfumes to like so let’s keep it the way it is – no oud for me…and no thunking for you today.

No it’s just the Rag & Bone Oud that doesn’t smell like oud at all. Other oud perfumes which use synthetic ouds I don’t always care for . SOTDay 4 of detox – Fragonard’s Santal. Today I’ve again had the wonderful oil on forehead procedure and after lunch a “small” enema. Tomorrow the big one is scheduled.
In the evening I’m invited to a romantic dinner (wishful thinking 😛 ). Seriously, it’s a guy who I’ve met recently and this will be the chance to get to know him better. I have no idea which perfume to wear for that occasion…maybe pull out one of my favourite vintages – Armani, Jil Sander III, J’ai Ose…?

Okay. You’ve just lost me on the detox plan. I was all intrigued and loving the idea of constant massages, but a ‘small’ enema? with the big one scheduled for tomorrow??? Nope. Count me out. I’d still be traumatized and busily dreading the ‘big one’ tomorrow! 😳

A working day for me with Kiki VdE for company. Much more forgiving than yesterday’s Bandit which kept me powering along till the wee hours of the morning. The pressure is on. I’ve got to get at least 90% of these drawings done if I hope to escape later this month with Mr. LH. The plumbing plans are on deck for this week and they’re gonna be a b*tch. I’ll probably have to revert back to Bandit or Chanel No. 19 when those get started.

What are your thoughts on Kiki? is that the lavender one with passionfruit? I have no familiarity with the Vero Kerns but I do know that there are differences between the extraits, VdE and EDPs….I know in the past I may have tried one of something but for the life of me cannot remember which one. Nonetheless just as well for it would be FOMO as I am sure the bottles are scarce now.
Good luck with getting all of your drawings done!!!

Yes the Kiki I have is lavender and passion fruit. It’s the only one I’ve tried of the line. I’m enjoying it but it’s not going to make the full bottle cut. I was looking for something like Pour Un Homme but with more complexity, oomph and longevity. There’s also caramel and musk in this, so I thought it would fit. In the end, Kiki is a much different thing.
I have it in my mind that I want to try the Rozy EdP as well, but, as you pointed out, who knows if they will remain available? Also frightfully spendy. So I’ll probably abstain.

With the humid and stormy weather over the past few weeks, I have found Bat by Zoologist to be just perfect. The humid soil and undergrowth smell and the sweetness of fruits (not to mention the flying foxes I see every night) seems to mirror the real summer world magnificently. I wondered when I would wear Bat when I first purchased it, as it is so distinctive. Now I have discovered the perfect setting!

Since I’m in neverending search for a good leather scent, I wore Bel Ami Vetiver and Gomma in the morning. They’re both great but I’d go for Gomma if I had to choose between them: something about Hermes’s vetivers doesn’t agree with me.
SOTE: the nameless iris from Parfums Dusita. It’s growing on me: at first all I could smell was violet which, of course, is great because I love violets but not what I expected.
