Day to Day Perfumes (My Dailies)

Hey there, APJers!

I had to go to trade school for 3 years as part of my apprenticeship. The guys in my class were the best thing about my time as an apprentice. They would talk about their cars, but more specifically, their dailies. It is their short hand for the cars they use on a daily basis; the ones they don’t invest lots of time and money in as a hobby, but are functional and reliable.

Day to Day Perfumes (My Dailies)

I have a selection of scents I call my dailies. I can wear these at any time, to any place and I know they will work. They are beautiful and well loved in their own right, yet I know I can call on them without having to worry about my emotional attachment (or lack of) to them. They provide a sweet ride without maintenance or expectation.

Chanel No 5 EdT

Do I really need to write about this?! Of all the modern versions of this classic, I find the ole edt is able to flit from day to night, office to beach and all shades of gender. It may not be universally loved, but it is respected.

Tranquille and Petite Brise by Teone Reinthal

Teone’s scents have strong personalities. Her range of aromatic colognes are really a misnomer. They are sturdy and head turning as much as they are deceptively simple. A little goes a long way with this series.

Tranquille begins with a dry citrus blast of neroli, grapefruit and mint, and dries down to a mellow spicy geranium. The crisp dryness is what I relish. Gorgeous on a very blustery day.

Petite Brise, on the other hand, appears more sedate and lady like, but holds its own in longevity. The petitgrain is foremost in this composition and allows the jasmine to sing a capella.

Putain des Palaces by Etat Libre d’Orange

A borderline boudoir aroma that has gained colourful reviews! It is a definite feminine scent with its marshmallowy soft powder, but the trace of cumin adds a discreet wink of something naughty behind the screen. I never tire of this one and I must grab a 100ml, so I can spray with abandon.

Ralph Lauren Woman

I admit I dismissed this after trialling on paper several times. It wasn’t til I bought a 50ml at a stupidly cheap price that I got to know it better. A tuberose tinged fruity floral. Pretty much sums it up. A massive departure from the clean linens Lauren has been treating us to over the last 2 decades, in that two very love-or-hate notes feature; tuberose and pear. Neither do more than hum, but it works. It is calming, polite, knowingly demure and housed in a classy flacon.

Over to you. Let’s grab a cuppa something, sit with me and tell me about your daily scents.

May your day be filled with scented goodness,

Kate xx

  1. I wear something different every day, and there isn’t a lot that I feel like I can just grab and wear without purposely selecting, but most of my vanillas fit that category, and a few fresh things that are inoffensive: Micallef Note Vanillée, Bulgari Au Thé Bleu, Le Labo Vanille 44, Acqua di Parma.

    • Tara C, vanilla seems to be one of those that is universally appealing. Can’t really go wrong with fresh ones either.

But I hear you on wearing something different. We are certainly spoilt for choice these days.

  2. Hey Kate,
I have a tray full of spritz & go faves. Some of them include DIOR Mitzah & Granville, L’Artisan Seville a l’Aube and Tea for Two, Miller et Bertaux Quiet Morning and Santal ++++, Niki de Saint Phalle, Miss Dior, Neela Vermeire Creations whole set, Shalimar & Opium.

    • Hey Portia – what you said before- scent twins! I love all on your list (that I am familiar with) except for Opium. Do not know why I never liked it.

Santal++++ and Seville are ones I haven’t sniffed.

  3. I’m well and truly stumped 🤔 There’s not really any that I put my hand on without thinking. Way too much thinking sometimes, standing there in my undies wasting time when I could be doing something productive. But if the house was burning and I had to save just one then it would be my Fidji parfum, ok, all my Fidji family. So I guess I have answered the question after all. Why didn’t I just say that at the start.

  4. I don’t have any specific perfumes that fall into that category. I choose my daily perfume based on my mood or my cravings. But if I really have to choose one, I would say Chanel No.19 EdT has that “no-brainer” status.

  5. I do have a few never-fail scents, in that even if I am indecisive and can’t figure out what I specifically want to wear that day will always feel good. (Rather than some which I generally adore, but, on the wrong day almost make me want to peel my skin off. Looking at you, PoaL!)

MEM, Jolie Madame, vintage 19 or Miss Dior, Aeon 001, CDG 2 Man.

  6. I have three trays for my perfumes and one of the three is devoted to office scents. Pretty well any of them can be grabbed as I am getting dressed. Today it was Cristalle.

  7. My dailies include two of yours: Chanel No 5 (but mine is the Eau Premier version) and Putain des Palaces. Easy, always beautiful, and never regrettable in any situation. I also include Chanel Coromandel, Chanel Bois des Isles, Molinard Habanita, Dioramour, Givenchy L’Interdit, Fath de Fath, and Shalimar.

  8. I try to wear something different every day. My Guerlains are my favourites. I keep them pretty much to hand,so I don’t have to search for any of them.

  9. I dont have day to day perfumes at the time because most of my stuff is in boxes. So I usually spray whichever is most easily accessible. I hope to get everything in the cupboard one day and when that happens I do know one perfume which may be my day-to-day perfume and it is vintage Eau Sauvage, something I have most of any perfume in my collection.

  10. Mine change occasionally as I tire of something or wear it on a bad day, but my current dailies are Vanilla Insensee, Fresh Cut, Tempo, No. 5 EDT, Beige EDT, the Chanel Les Eaux, all the Inekes, La Fin du Monde, Remarkable People, Tropic of Capricorn, and Fille en Aiguilles.

  11. Thanks for sharing your dailies Kate 🙂

My most worn is probably my favourite versatile fragrance to date: Grey Vetiver edp by your beloved Thomas Ford 😉 Encre Noire has become my work driver and definitely performs best on my skin diring cooler, damp weather. I’ve been thinking of getting the original Aqua by Bulgari for next summer as it used to be a daily-daytime for me about 10 years ago. Another one that we’ve discussed recently is the original Cool Water – but alas these are all freshies with a base of oak moss ti carry them through 🙂

  12. Hello Kate 😊 Al Oudh and Voleur de Roses from L’Artisan come to mind for office easy. Or my Montale Black Oud for any other time. I adore ELdO Putain – so good xx
Cassieflower – you crack me up😂😂 standing in your undies wasting time 🤣 sometimes that’s the worst part of the morning – picking our scent xx

  13. Hi dear Kate 🙂
Dailies…I always think of contact lenses when I hear that. Who’d know some people associate that word with cars?
My perfume dailies are L’Artisan’s Caligna (my newest flame), Clinique Wrappings, Fragonard’s Santal and Gucci Rush.
I have to check out Teone Reinthal Perfumes but I already see some obstacles since they are from Australia…

  14. Mine shift a lot depending on what I’m currently sampling and on the season, but my dailies usually include a Penhaligon’s (Elisabethan Rose in winter, Ostara in spring, Blasted Bloom in summer), a Chanel (No. 22, No. 19, Cristalle), and 1-2 current easy loves that I can wear to work (right now those are Cartier Carat and Tiffany & Co., in the past they have been Un Jardin Sur le Nil and Un Jardin Apres la Mousson). What about “nightlies”? Mine has been Jicky EDT for a while now.

  15. I don’t have any dailies – my collection is too big and I try to wear everything. However I do have no-brainer perfumes for days when I don’t have time to choose. (Kind of the same thing? Except they don’t get worn super often..). Bvlgari Omnia, Dame Skyfather, Lolita Lempicka Si Lolita, Nicolai Fig-Tea, Yves Rocher Accord Chic are some that work just about any day.

  16. Like many here I pretty much make a decisive choice on a daily basis, but if I were to tally the ones I wear the most would be Shalimar, Allure, Coco, Coco Noir, Vetiver Fatal, Narciso (black EDT version), Pluriel Femme, Superstitious and Velvet Orchid (and as a side note others I wear daily are Aqua Vitae Forte or Zen for outdoor exercise). But really, there are so many….and this list would change in the warmer months, of course! 😉

  17. Great post Kate. I don’t have any. Not really. Perhaps, as of late, Chanel‘s Paris – Venise, and maybe La Pausa 28. I do wear both of those quite a lot if I don‘t wanna think too much. Except that I think about them anyway. ☺️ I cannot answer the question.

  18. Chanel’s Paris- Venise is a wonderful choice for a daily. Thank you for the reminder. I’d love to know either of your thoughts on Riviera when you sniff, I can’t get it yet here locally. It may be a blind buy if I read favorable reviews.

  19. 1957 is stellar, a fave purchase from this year. I have a feeling I will love Riviera as well. Hoping I can wait to sniff it early September when I’ll visit a Chanel boutique, but looking forward to your reviews in the meantime.
