Heya Fashion Forward Fumies,

Lady Gaga and Gwyneth Paltrow are about as polar opposite as you can imagine. Back in 2011 they were both on Graham Norton’s couch and the subject of fashion fails creeps up. The very last look of this clip is gold. They are both really charming and I love the way they work together. Comedy comes from such unexpected places.

How would you scent Gwyneth and Gaga? Let’s not say what they do wear but what their personalities match with. I reckon Gwyneth would wear something feminine, overblown and intrusive like Midnight Oud, Ysatis or Songes. Lady Gaga is surprisingly conservative under all that show so maybe something that opens really strong then softens to an elegant wash like Mitsouko, Maai or Jasmine Rouge.

Hey Hey APJ,

One of my heroes is Dame Edna Everidge. She paved a form of drag that made it a good deal more acceptable to make my own career choices. With her fun, caustic, witty and well researched brand of humour she reached millions of people who would never have even thought about seeing a drag show in its Gay Land form but who would cough up big bickies to see this mad maven mock and reduce everything they were and loved. Did it in such a way that both victim and audience were laughing. That is an amazing talent.

I have only met Barry Humphries on a couple of occasions and he was extremely charming. When I thanked him for making my career choices easier, made it so much easier to say to Mum that I was going to be like Dame Edna, in fact made what I do verge on acceptable he was so humble and modest. It had never occurred to him that his being Dame Edna changed anyone’s life for the better other than the moments he spent making them laugh and think in theatres and on TV around the globe.

60 years in a profession notorious for its brevity. Amazing.

Here you see a chat on The Talk in America. Even though Dame Edna is her usual caustic self you can tell there has been long, hard thought about life and the place in it that Barry and Edna hold by both the cast and Edna. A lovely 3.20 minutes.

So maybe I’ve told you before. I styled myself on two legendary superstars and their kiddy re-animations. The two stars? Loretta Switt and Divine. Re-animations? Miss Piggy and Ursula the Sea Witch.

Someone who I thought was kind of funny but admired much more for her dedication and ability to rise in a job where women were less than welcome was Joan Rivers. That kind of tenacity is amazing and even more so when you saw her, a tiny little doll like woman. She was quite old when I met her in Sydney at the Mardi Gras for a very short moment, and she was basically being held up by her minders to get through the crowds, but in my two seconds with her she was lovely. Now she’s gone but there is so much to remember her by.

Dudley Hugs A Tree

Dudley was walking through the bush, when he came upon a old bearded bloke hugging a magnificent Eucalypt, with his ear firmly against the trunk, moaning softly.

“Just out of curiosity, mate,” he asked, “what the hell are you doing?”

“I’m listening to the music of the tree,” said the scruffy looking fellow.

“You’ve gotta be kiddin’,” scoffed Dudley.

“No way mate, it’s the most beautiful thing you’ll ever hear,” said the bearded bloke, “Give it a try.”

Dudley was skeptical but curious, so he wrapped his arms around the tree and pressed his ear up against it.
Quick as a flash, the bearded bloke slapped a pair of handcuffs on him, took his wallet and car keys, stripped him naked, stole his clothes and fled.
Two hours later an enormously muscled and hairy woodsman strolled by and spotted the stark naked Dudley handcuffed to the tree.

“Bloody hell, what happened to you?” he laughed.

With enormous relief Dudley told the bloke the whole terrible saga about how he got there. When Dudley finished telling his story, the woodsman shook his head in sympathy, walked around behind him, kissed him gently behind the ear and whispered, “This isn’t your day, cupcake…”
