Hello Fashion conscious Fumies,
OOOOW! When I first heard about Cuir Cannage it was a thrilling excitement. I couldn’t wait to get my sniff on it. Immediately I knew it was coming I emailed our Australian DIOR marketing arm and was told I would be contacted on arrival. Well, frankly I couldn’t wait for them, I went and ordered from Surrender To Chance a lovely 3ml spritz. It just arrived, WOO HOO! Let’s wear it together for the first impressions……

Fragrantica gives these featured accords:

Instant leather on spritz like you are looking inside a new handbag for something, then a cool green sappy-ness then a warm wet suede shoe (all this happens in about a minute) and then I get a beautiful, sensual night flower that is the fatty orange blossom & the ylang, neither is wholly itself and they’re blended so beautifully that they create a whole new flower, glorious. This section lasts much longer than you’d expect from an opening and I’m really glad.

The leather is new and very slightly earthy when it comes in, a soft and supple leather that I think anyone could wear. Smoked and tanned it reminds me of a very softened and gentrified Knize Ten. There is no fruit note to sweeten it like the Bottega Venetta and it’s not as plush and rounded as CHANEL’s Cuir de Russie but it is lovely and I can imagine it being worn by the boys to work and on dates. The girls will smell super retro in it and I can’t wait to smell Cuir Cannage on some of them, elegant and razor sharp cool. The girls will certainly stand out when wearing Cuir Cannage, nice one DIOR.

Hi Portia,
I loved Cuir Cannage the first time I tried it on card. The iris really came through. Then I tried it on skin with Val but it wasn’t so good and I kind of wrote it off.
Now your lovely review makes me think I should give it another try. I do wonder if I’d prefer to smell it on a guy though.

I am unsure myself. I like it. It smells good, blended beautifully and I think it’s well thought out. I think till now I’ve prefered my leather shot through with fruit, the Bottega Venetta, Daim Blonde thing or extra dry and in your face like Knize Ten.
This is a super wearable version and I think if I spent some time wearing it I could definitely fall in love.

Great review Portia! This is one of my faves this year! I get loads of leather at the beginning and then it smooths itself out beautifully. In the late stages I get a soft floral leather with loads of vanilla. The Norwegian gets a much more masculine vibe which is great. We share but smell completely different. Xoxo

I loved CC at first spritz and bought a decant. After wearing it quite a bit over the summer it has lost its allure and I got bored by it, but I will give it a rest and try again when the weather is cooling down.
It surely deserves another chance.

This smells great but on me it is nearly identical to SL Cuir Mauresque, which I already own, so probably will not purchase, but I enjoyed trying it.

Aaaah! I have not tried the SL Cuir Mauresque, having Daim Blonde and Cuir Majascule was enough I thought. Should I?

It is quite different from both of those and is my favourite of the 3. Definitely try the Cuir Mauresque! Also, be sure to try it both dabbed and sprayed. It was too much for me sprayed, but I found I loved it dabbed on.

I haven’t had a chance to try it yet but after reading that it’s similar to Cuir Mauresque I’m afraid it won’t work for me since I don’t like the latter. But I’m very curious to try since, in general, I like this whole line.

I love Cuir de Russie (own a full bottle) and really like (own a travel bottle) Lonestar Memories but Cuir Mauresque smells dirty (as in “unwashed”) and unpleasant on me. And I had a chance to test it several times since I got a decant in swap so it’s not even a question of not wanting to spend money on it.

Interesting how things are different on and for everyone Undina. I’m pretty sure that Cuir Cannage is clean smelling but would love to hear what you think when you get to it.

Prompted by your review I got my sample out for another try. The thing is that on me it shrinks to the skin so fast. It’s lovely, but I so wish it had more diffusion. It just doesn’t not engage my emotions or imagination, you know? But minutes after I spritzed I walked back into my bedroom and got faint whiff of it – so beautiful.

Ah, that is interesting. I find Cuir de Russie EdT does that on me, almost instantly a skin scent unless I go spritz crazy. CC stays around on my skin though.
