Cookie Queen's Caring Christmas!

Post by Val the Cookie Queen

Cookie Queen’s Fragrant Year 2014

The year started with a visit from Portia Turbo-Gear and Michael dropping by and staying for a few days. We had a blast and they got to come along on the Salzburg Cookie Run.
They headed off for a week´s travel around Europe and we got to meet up again in London, for the now near legendary Blogger´s Meet at the fabulous Bloom Perfumery in London´s
Spitalfields area.

Val, portia, Michael Austria 2014

Meeting so many bloggers in the flesh was nothing short of amazing.

APJ Bloom 2013 #2

Tara of Olfactoria´s Travels and Vanessa of Bonkers About Perfume and I have since become proper friends and I flew back to the UK in July to meet up with them again. This time there was only the three of us which which was a little less hectic than the Bloom Party and we got to know each other better. I adore them.

CQ Vero Milan 2013 #2

I went to Milan for the Esxence, The Scent of Excellence Fragrance Fair in Spring and to the Pitti Fragranze in Florence in autumn. These events are within driving distance of my home, which is consolation for having to spend a large part of my life speaking German.

I took regular trips to Vienna to meet up with Birgit and Sandra from Olfactoria´s Travels. Intimate fragrant breakfasts together.

So dear readers, a you might imagine I have got quite a stash of samples, and the truth is I have more than enough and would like to give some away.
Living in the heart of Europe allows quick access to many of the new releases and I hope that someone, one of you, can get to sample something that you find difficult to get hold of.

My favourite perfumes this year? The three Rozys from Vero Profumo. Now there´s a surprise..

January will mark two years since meeting Portia, who has become such an integral part of my life. Nearly two years as Cookie Queen. What have I learnt? That when pushed,
people will swop most anything for cookies!

Have a peaceful Christmas season. Take some time out to smell the coffee and be thankful.

  1. Great article Val; you’ve clearly had a great 2014.

This year I encountered some great perfumes and had my first encounters with niche houses such as Heeley and Arquiste. I was very pleased to find a fragrance that my perfume-hating wife really likes: Ophelia. L’Etrog Acqua was my favourite new perfume this year; it’s destined to get a lot of airtime this summer.

But without doubt my favourite fragrance find was the full and unopened bottle of 1950s era Miss Dior I found in an antique shop, still in its hounsdtooth pattern box, and with its black bow attached. Seeing that on the shelf made me more excited than anything else I found this year.

    I follow via email.

  2. YAY!! What an incredible year it has been.
Thanks for being my friend Val, you rock my world in a million ways.
    Portia xx

  3. My favourite fragrance find of 2014 was Rozy EDP. I have officially become addicted. See CQ, we are almost scent twins as well as almost birthday twins 🙂 Thank you so much for the draw, and I hope your holidays contain as much joy as your cookies give to others.

  4. What a brilliant time you’ve had! My 2014 loves are Creed’s Virgin Island Water (summer holiday in a bottle), and 5 O’clock Au Gingembre, incredibly sexy and spicy! I follow by email. Thanks for the generous givewaway. 🙂

  5. What a brilliant way to celebrate the closing of a wonderful year. I’m so unbelievably grateful for all the amazing people I’ve met and gaining your friendship has meant the world to me, Val.

Good luck to everyone who enters the giveaway! I will share on Twitter but no need to enter me – you’ve gifted me with more than enough already. xxx

  6. What a fun, fragrant year you’ve had. Thank you so much for this generous giveaway! My favourite find this year was an old formula bottle of Venezia. I follow by email 🙂

  7. This year, I discovered Neela Vermeire Creations, her Mohur Extrait is a beautiful scent to wear in the cold winter months here in Michigan. You feel as if you’ve stepped back into a more elegant time when you apply it. Another discovery this year was Divine Life Perfume, I adore Roses, and she has created some of the most perfect Rose scents I have ever come across. Thierry Mugler was another recent discovery for me, Alien wears soft on my skin, I love it. I follow you on Bloglovin

  8. Hi Val!
I follow by email. I absolutely love Onda EDP. I will try Rozy someday. Being a full time student again (after 45), I don’t get to spend as much time trying new things. I loved your review of Onda and took a chance. Thank you so much. Have a very Merry Christmas.

  9. Hi, Val! Coconut shortbread addict here!
Though I am not much fond of coconut in perfume. Except for Jeux de Peau…
I think I found some Holy Grails this year. Well, yes, several 😉
Iris de Nuit – Heeley, Calling All Angels – April Aromatics, Violette Sacree and Rose Irisee – Au Pays de la Fleur dÓranger, Unknown Pleasures – Kerosene (yum!), Antonia and Black – Puredistance, Monocle Sugi – Comme des Garcons, Sortilege – Le Gallion…Surely, there are more to add, but I don’t want to be tedious.
I follow by email, and on the FB page. Thank you for the great generous draw! That’s a gorgeous holiday feast for a fumie!

  10. I follow via WordPress. My favourite find of 2014 was the Australian botanical perfumery Fleurage, featuring Emma Leah’s magnificent, vintage-esque creations. My favourite of these so far is Chypre. I can’t wait to buy a full bottle once my sample runs out!

  11. Val, what a fabulous year you had! So much fragrant fun!!
My favourite find this year came just the other day. Rendez Vous by Atelier Cologne. I put this one on one of “down” days and, gosh, it really picked me up! Wish they sell this in smaller bottles.
I’m following by email and Facebook. Thanks for your lovely giveaway! x

  12. Hello CQ,
My thrill this year was going to London and the fabulous perfumeries there. I got to sample Papillon Perfumes, loved Anubis.
And that brand Tuesdays, I forget how many, but English and fun.
    I follow by email.

  13. What an incredibly beautiful and fragrant year! I follow via email and my favorite find from this year was probably Lubin’s Akkad. Although it’s up there fighting with Santal Carmin, Beloved Woman, Mahjoun, and Fate Man. And maybe a whole lot of others as well. 😉

  14. What a lovely and fragrant year! I follow by email and have fallen for several new fragrances this year! The Different Company’s Une Nuit Magnetique and Hiram Green’s Moon Bloom were among them. Hermes Ambre Narguilé was new to me and deeply loved!

  15. Hello
I follow you by email. And POAL and Carnal Flower are my best finds this yearm I live in Iran where that is hard to find niche perfume and you can not try what you want such as Vero Kern perfumes. your post made me more eager to try Rozy, I should find a way ASAP.

  16. Hi Cookie!
Thank you for these great photos of your wonderful year. DNEM as I am trying really hard to be less acquisitive. I just wanted to drop by and say “Happy Christmas”!
    Azar xx

  17. What a wonderful draw – and how amazing to live where you have such access to wonderful scents! I follow APJ via e-mail. My favorite discovery of this year…hmmm..PdN Musc Monoi for niche and Estee Lauder’s Modern Muse Chic for mainstream, I think. Both are lovely, wearable scents that dry down beautifully.

  18. a fantastic Christmas draw.
I follow via wordpress and twitter and my favourite 2014 discovery is Tom Ford’s Patchouli Absolu. Happy Holidays to the perfumed community!

  19. 2014 was a big big year for me..and I also discovered APJ to top it all off. Its been a great year ! I discovered two beautiful scents -Juliette has a gun – “Anyway” and Costume Nationals ” Nude” . I have samples of both and am now saving to purchase them..
Heres to 2015 and new discoveries !!
I follow via newsletter and facebook .

  20. Hi Val. What a fun year filled with fragrance. Thanks for sharing some of it with us. I follow via email. My two best finds this year were not new releases though they were new to me: Houbigant’s Orangers En Fleurs and Guerlain’s Spiriteuse Double Vanille. Thanks again!

  21. I follow your blog thru my email. Thank you for the giveaway.

My favorite discovery of 2014 (if I had to pick just one!) Would be Chanel No 19. Simply because it reminds me so very much of my beloved Heure Exquise and I thought nothing could compare!

  22. I follow by email.

Just bought myself Champs Elysee after reading the review on this blog. Portia is right, you can get it at amazingly cheap prices. Guerlian is one of my favourite perfume houses ever since my then fiancee bought me Jardins de Bagatelle 25 years ago at almost exactly this time. He had to fly to New Zealand and send it to me as he got it duty free. He bought me another bottle this year to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary! We had to order it since very few stores stock it now. So even though I have only ever had 2 bottles in my life, it is a very special perfume to me.

    Happy Holidays to all!

  23. Since I’m just getting into perfumes (and tracking them all via spreadsheet & blog) – EVERYTHING has been a discovery this year! I’ve like a lot but so far the only scent that I *absolutely* adore is Do Son EDP – but there’s still so much to try! Here’s to a 2015 filled with fun trials *cheers* Thanks for the draw, I follow via bloglovin!

  24. I follow by email, and it is incredibly difficult to pick just one perfume that was my favorite of the past year. I might have to go with Tauer’s l’Air du desert Marocain. Thank you!

  25. Thanks for a great giveaway! I follow by email.

My favourite find of the year would have to be L’Ambre des Merveilles. I know it has been around for a few years but I only tried it out this year and fell in love!

  26. If there’s anything I love more than perfume, it’s cookies, so I think you may just have the perfect life. My favorite fragrant finds of 2014 fall into the only-new-to-me category: Jour d’Hermes and Traversée du Bosphore. I follow with Bloglovin, and it occurs to me that samples may be the cookies of the perfume world.

  27. I follow by email. My favourite find has been Andy Tauer’s Phi une Rose de Kandahar. I missed it when it came out before, but it is my perfect rose. Also, not a particular find as such, but I seem to have been craving lavender fragrances this year.

  28. Thank you!
    I follow via email
Fragrant finds this year (hard to recall what’s this year vs last…I’m getting old!): Dries Van Noten, L’Orpheline.

  29. 2014 really has been a humdinger of a fragrance year for me. I became a
Member of Facebook Fragrance Friends, and that has changed my life in so many positive ways. I have met the best people through this lovely group, including Portia and you Val! I am so grateful. And I have been introduced to countless beautiful scents. There are many standouts (Rosae Mundi, Rose 31, Liqueur Charnelle, Kiki VdE, etc, etc) but the one that made me literally have to sit down from being bowled over was Rubj. Rubj, in all it’s forms, is pure full-spectrum loveliness in a bottle. Thank you Vero Kern!

  30. I follow on bloglovin. I had several new fragrance discoveries for 2014. But En Voyage Fiore di Bellagio was the most outstanding. An absolutely gorgeous perfume.

  31. Hi Val – I follow on WordPress and Twitter and will do a retweet. Thanks for the draw. Your pic with Vero is outstanding and that blogger meet up in London looks brilliant. I’m pretty sure I follow nearly everyone in that picture so quite good to see what everyone looks like. My discoveries have been Rozy EDP (but I haven’t tried the other versions so will probably love those too) and Anubis which is a dark beauty. Also have discovered Shalimar – the current version which I love. I probably won’t try the vintage anytime as you can’t buy and sell Guerlain on eBay in France – highly annoying! And to add to that I really have been liking Angel Les Parfums de Cuir which I actually end up wearing quite a bit at home.

  32. I follow by email. My favorite find of 2014 has to be Roja Dove Creation R. I just love it! there are lots of wonderful other fragrances that I came across this year, so my pocketbook tells me. Wink wink. Thanks for the draw. I am in US. Merry Merry Christmas 🙂

  33. This is very generous, thank you! I would love to try any of these beautiful scents. Uhm, this question is pretty difficult. I guess my favorite find of 2014 are the Fragrance Republic scents. Thank you for this draw!

I follow via email. (same as above)

  34. Hi Cookie Queen,

What an exciting year you have had!

I have been very short of money this year, so I have only bought a couple of very inexpensive fragrances. I love violet perfumes and ordered a 100 ml bottle of Violette from Molinard’s Les Fleurs range. That would be my favourite for the year. It is a lovely sugary violet that reminds me a bit of purple jelly beans (no bad thing), and it is close to the old violet and vanilla scent of Cyclax cosmetics that I adore.

Recently I found a range of inexpensive fragrances at my local Terry White chemist by a company named “Jeanne en Provence”. As the weather was so hot, I was drawn to the “Pear and Apple” eau de toilette. It is very refreshing and lasts at least a few hours on me. At only $16.95 for a 60 ml bottle, I can afford to spray this one a few times during the day.

    I follow APJ via email.

  35. Hi CQ,
Thank you for the generous draw and thank you to all who keep APJ such a fun place to be. My fragrant highlights of the year was meeting Portia and many perfume lovers in Myers Sydney.
I really really liked Journey (W) by Amouage and my find for the year is Black by CdG which, while not terribly original, is very distinctive. Fingers crossed for Santa to bring me a bottle.

    I follow by email.

  36. Fantastic giveaway!

This year I have found so many true beauties, it seems almost impossible to choose which one was “the best”… There is Tolu, Rose de Kandahar, Montale’s Oriental Flowers, Terre de Feu, Bois de Gayac, Oud Imperial, APOM, Phul Nana, Moon Dance by JHAG, Dzongkha…
Much to my surprise I must confess BK Criminal of Love is the winner. A warm, rich and distinctive perfume, I love it.

    Following by email.

Have a wonderful December, all!! 🙂

  37. Awesome Giveaway! I haven’t had the opportunity to experience many new great scents this year, only 2. Both of them are created by Harvey Prince – First is “Fling”, it smells great and the second is “Hello” and it’s just heavenly! I subscribe by email and follow on bloglovin. Thanks so much, for this FABULOUS giveaway.:)
