Hi APJ,
A SOTD (Scent Of The Day) thread is a really good conversation generator. The idea is youโll chime in through the week with whatever scent you are wearing. You don’t need to be super knowledgable, have high faluting tastes or be a published author to comment. Just tell us what fragrance you’re wearing, smelling, buying etc. and how it makes you feel and/or anything else about it that tickles your fancy.
You can also comment on everyone else choices too. It’s great to tell someone how much you love their choice, ask for more info about it, the house or perfumer. There’s someone here from around the world 24/7 and perfume people love to chat.
SOTD 1.7 – 7.7.2019
You probably won’t have time to write every scent, every spritz but whenever you feel the mood take you share your current spritz and a few things about it. Maybe you love/loathe it, want it, are excited by the notes/bottle/SA who sold it: WHATEVER! As always here at APJ, taking sides never means taking offence and everyone keeps it respectful and light, even though we can sometimes trawl the depths.
Hopefully you will come back and see if anyone has responded to your comment and you can reply to them.
Go To It Crew.

Do you detect any almond with Pure eVe, as reviews commented? I do somewhat in dry down, but not overly almond scent to my nose.
Iโve decided Blanc Poudre is perfect office scent. Very soft and subtle, couldnโt be offensive to anyone, and I get a powdery sweet skin scent.
LikeLike
I do get a whiff of almonds but not that cherry almond note that is prevalent in Jergens skin lotion. Something about it reminds me of my custom made Brigitte but without the lilac note….creamy and powdery at the same time.
Poudre Blanc is definitely the perfect office scent!!!
LikeLike
I donโt get the cherry almond of Jergens either in Pure eVe, itโs more powdery, clean, soft musc with almond in dry down.
Is the cherry almond and marzipan scent related to heliotrope note? Iโve read that heliotropin is under reduced ratio in perfumery according to IFRA regulations and that is why fragrances with heliotrope smell less deep and almondy.
I looked and Pure eVe doesnโt have heliotrope listed in notes, but has โcandied almond?โ
LikeLike
Not sure if it’s heliotrope but it could be. Although Jergens still has that smell so I am not sure what aromachemical is being utilized in there.

I sprayed Boucheron EDT on the top of my hand because I hadn’t smelled it in something like 30; years and I was curious. I cannot believe that this beautiful perfume sells for a song. It also has a powdery vibe to my nose. I think it would be easy enough to temporarily abandon exploration of current expensive niche offerings and focus on the old classics as they are equally as good and sometimes better. This is what I would recommend to a perfumista on a tight budget.

Yeh, 100 ml is just ridiculous. Whatโs with this trend anyway?
LikeLike
Don’t know ๐ค Maybe to make more money? Years ago 30 and 50 ml were the norm from what I remember.
LikeLike
Yes, definitely, my first Saturday job as a young teen was in a chemistโs shop that had a very good perfume section and there were very few bottles larger than 50ml, and many came in 30ml. Itโs understandable from a companyโs perspective that one large bottle is cheaper to develop and buy than providing a range of smaller ones, but I think peopleโs buying habits have changed in recent years and not so many have a signature perfume anymore, preferring to develop a perfume wardrobe that is varied – and plentiful๐ And in that case not many would consider shelling out for 100 ml of something that might be used only occasionally. Or am I just talking about myself?
LikeLike
I wonder about the size of bottles as well. Perhaps because fragrance in the past was more “perfumey” and had better sillage and longevity and didn’t need to spritzed lavishly? A little went a long way? So many modern formulations and niche perfumes are barely detectable after an hour or so or wear and require big sprays in my opinion.
LikeLike
Kathleen,
You hit the nail on the head. My skin eats up all the current stuff but the vintage lasts much longer on my scent devouring skin. Quite a few years ago I was in Macys and asked for the tester of Azuree. Because it read as “Cologne” I sprayed lavishly….oh boy! I left a scent trail every where I went that day in the mall! Even the old Aliage Sport Cologne from Estee Lauder was a powerhouse….so yes, a little really DID go a long way!

I love it. I like my tea strong! One of my co workers goes to Ireland every summer and always takes my oil blends cause it’s the only “perfume” her mum and sisters will wear. In exchange she has given me a Shetland wool shawl and Shetland wool mittens in the past. This year I got my gift early….Irish Oatmeal and two boxes of Barry’s for the summer.

Review it when you wear it. I found it on Fragrantica. Reviewers seem to think it is very sweet and not that powdery? I donโt know. I never tried the original, although I love Turkish delight!

I found it to be more sweet than pure powder….but there is this dried fruit vibe and even a bit of almond to my nose. I am hoping Kathleen will chime in as she is much better with descriptions. I will tell you that I like it.

Heading to the farmers market smelling divine…I get some fruit in Loukoum Poudre so it’s very context appropriate. When I return I will do exercise and clean the house. Post shower will test Bonheur de Vanille. Next week I will focus on the irises- Misia, Iris de Nuit, Le Sixtieme Parfum, Courreges Blanc and vintage no 19.
Hope everyone is having a great Saturday/Sunday! xoxo

Ridiculous! Do you know my oldest childhood friend of 51 years had a mother who gifted me that Cologne disk Shalimar when I was 12 because she got it as a gift, didn’t like it and heard that I was “obsessed with perfume”? Yeah, I think youโre probably right. The reason I wondered is because it was quite powerful and extremely long lasting. From a cologne? Magic happens!

According to calculations I did while reading the Saturday question, so far, I appear to be the most vintage member. Which is no honour ๐ . On the other hand, I suppose it might drive up my value. Based on perfume observations, the oldest Shalimar vintages are the most expensive. Therefore more desirable. So Iโll take that formula and apply it to myself. Put that in your pipe and smoke it ๐คฃ And that is a quintessential old folks expression ๐๐

Marcella, look at it this way: which is more prized, cheap plonk or the finest vintage wine? So by my reckoning you are a highly-prized, ageing to utter perfection specimen๐ With undertones of oak and with a long finish on the palate.

It’s been cleaned up since then and if I am not mistaken also hosts a NY Fashion show every week? I have been out of the city for so long I don’t remember! The NY Fashion Week is held twice a year: February and September. I worked just right in front of the public library for many years and it was always nice to see all the movement in the area during the event.
I used to go ice skating at the Bryant Park rink. So much fun! There is also a winter holiday market with lots of kiosks. Kind of pricey, but it is worthy to explore it. I never went to Times Square during the awful years. It is amazing how things changed for good. I go there several times a year and wish I could still work in the area. I really miss it!

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. I know, I know is a heresy for a perfumista to wear such an unpopular fragrance, but I saw the big full bottle all the way in the back of my cabinet this morning and I just grabbed it and sprayed lavishly on it. I had not reached for it in the past million years. I was surprised to find out that I am still fond of it. God! it has not evaporated a bit and it smells as good as the first day. I wish all my perfumes, especially the ones I love the most were as intact as Light Blue. Anyway, I still enjoy it!

Not heresy at all. Before it became popular and ubiquitous which lead to it’s demise amoungst perfumistas I had my own large bottle and loved it. I think it’s a perfect hot weather scent…so refreshing!!!

and actually I remember buying that bottle simultaneously with the original Dolce and Gabbana..they were identical bottles but Light Blue came with a light blue cap and light blue velvet box and Dolce and Gabbana came with a red cap and red velvet box…I loved that they matched.
